This really was a kids movies. When it came out, I was 10, and my sisters were even younger, and we all saw it in a theater when it first came out. It has been one of my all-time favorite movies ever since then.
Yeah the movie was OK for children, the part that freaked me out as a kid was the short movie "Vincent" which played before Nighmare Before Christmas on the VHS
A visual masterpiece!! And yes, a family film, because back then filmmakers didn’t water things down too much for kids:) and we appreciated that. I remember as a kid being so inspired by Jack’s song by the moon that I cried by how beautiful the imagery was!
Jack didn’t come out of the green liquid, he was the scarecrow on fire, to burn away his ‘flesh’ to reveal his bones underneath as he rises from the water, ugh this movie is so coool! My fav since I was a child, it’s printed into my brain to where if I’m bored I can and will reply the movie in my head
I know this is said to be a Tim Burton movie, but it is directed by Henry Selick (who also directed Coraline). Tim Burton wrote the story and he is one of the producers.
RIP Ken Page, who voiced Oogie Boogie and who we lost this year on October 1st…… thank you for bringing to life for over 30 years our favorite groovy boogie man and I was honored to have cosplayed as Oogie for Halloween this year
@ I wish we could post pics on this haha because it took me and my brother over 4 days to make it by hand but it was sooooo amazing and I wanted to do Ken honor and make him proud
This is definitely a core memory for little me. I remember having a moment of "Huh, this is kind of weird... I've never seen anything like this. I can dig it." & now at 36 I still love this movie and have sooo much Nightmare merch. You're right! This can be a Halloween or Christmas movie & I watch it for both!
@@EKomar-z6h which is sad, because Chris Sarandon actually did the singing in the video game sequel, Oogie's Revenge, and he's actually pretty good. I guess it's because Danny Elfman was already an established singer, so he was the "safe" option to do it.
Hello Colette!😊 One of my favorite Tim Burton films is the underrated "Ed Wood" (1994). An actor in the film even won an Academy Award for their performance, so you know this is a good film. The singing voice of Jack is movie composer Danny Elfman. I'm glad you enjoyed this unique film! 😉Great reactions to this Tim Burton classic, Colette!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!🎄1⃣
My nickname was the pumpkin king when I was in choir because my audition song was "Jack's Lament". So they called me the pumpkin king for 4 years of high school.
I just opened my Christmas present from my fiance (6:15 am on the 25th here in Australia right now) and she got me the Nightmare Before Christmas Lego set, as well as the light kit to go with it. Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my all time favourite films, so I couldn't have asked for a better gift. Probably going to play the movie in the background while I'm building. Merry Christmas everybody! ❤️
Patrick Stewart was almost cast as Sandy Claws. There are actually two monologues recorded by him (a prologue and an epilogue)--I'd highly recommend checking them out.
Today's finally here. Merry Christmas Colette 🎄🎁🎅🏼🥛🍪❄ I really enjoyed your reaction to the nightmare before Christmas🎃 I hope you have a wonderful holidays and hope you see elf or home alone one & two wanted to or jingle all the way or The Grinch !!
The scene where sally had the tiny tree in her hand, here is one interesting point. Sally has some ability to see or sense the events of the future. The burning of the tree was the forshadow of events that would be if jack disrupts the natural cycle of the holiday seasons.
Saw this as a kid. Absolutely loved it. My religious father never let me see it again. Joined the military it was the first movie I bought. Watched it two to three times a day for months.
Yeah, that was Danny Elfman doing Jack's singing voice, with Chris Sarandon doing the speaking voice. Catherine O'Hara is the voice of Sally. Paul Reubens voiced Lock, one of the 3 kids. There's an a cappella group called VoicePlay that has covered many of the songs from this movie.
I would trip someone's grandma to see your take on "Predestination", specifically from an "inside" perspective on how it was handled. Even more so after you watch it a second time during editing. The movie is leaving Netflix 31Dec, it is an absolute gem that only has three real reactions to date.
Criminally underrated film. Perfect balance between being both emotionally and intellectually engaging. The idea at its core and Sarah Snooke's stellar performance just put it in a class of its own. "If you shoot me, you'll become me. You get it? That's how it happens. If you want to break the chain, you have to not kill me, but try to love me again."
No screen-used Scarecrow Jack puppets exist. They made one copy of that puppet for that short scene, then ripped everything off the armature so it could be reused for other Jack puppets for the rest of the movie.
Jack was looking for something different and strange, something he must've missed by being so concerned with himself and what he did best with so many others relying upon him; never realizing that strangeness and different something he was seeking that would fill that empty heart was right in front of him (and a little off center, just behind the bushes) because it wasn't a SOMETHING, but a SOMEONE! I think that the people we really need are much easier to overlook when we are so focused on the things we want and give so much of our time to making others happy in large numbers, as opposed to a single person being deserving of that attention than an entire town's worth of people. The town wanted him to be better and grander and more and more with each passing year, his successes only locked into the expectation of greater success thus forcing him to devote more of himself to making them all superficially happy while depleting himself. A lake that is drained constantly but not fed by streams, rain, and rivers soon dries up. He could make one person REALLY happy all year round or many folks be cheerful for a single night of shrieks and laughter and what does she want from him in return for this bliss? Just for Jack to BE no one less or more than Jack, she adores who he is; not his title or what he does. And that is the lesson and moral to this tale that I think many miss.
💀👍 This was the first in a trilogy of macabre Tim Burton animated films, the other two being "The Corpse Bride" (2005) and "Frankenweenie" (2012). 👻 Most of his live-action films also have a bit of a cartoonish look to them. Incidentally, Danny Elfman does the score for ALL of Burton's movies. They are a team like Steven Spielberg & John Williams. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Sad i caught this late. This was my favorite x-mas movie, while my brothers was Die Hard. Neat fact about the tub, clawed feet on porcelain tubs were considered luxury items and very expensive, historically. I absolutely love that they brought one to life in this.
The thing is, Tim Burton really did not have much to do with this movie. He did not write it. He did not direct it. He was a Producer. But very often Producers don't even do anything. His name was just slapped on the movie. In my opinion, the only good movies he actually directed were "Edward Scissors Hands" and the 2 Batman movies he did. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is one of my favorite movies. But it's mainly because of how good the music is done by Danny Elfman. And of course the people who spent countless hours animating and designing these figurines deserve a lot of credit too.
I watched this movie when I was 10, a little scary but completely enjoyable, and the songs are awesome and unforgetable, in special the last, completely beautiful
Merry Christmas Colette 🎄🎁🎅🏼☃️ You look really great❤, like your spot. First, the elf and now nightmare before Christmas, your reaction is always the best.😊 I do love the songs of this movie, this is Halloween, what's this? Boogie man. Sally's song. I hope you enjoy the holidays with gifts and lots of happiness. Looking forward to your next reaction. I got another Christmas movie ideas if you haven't seen. Try home alone 1 and 2 and the polar express and jingle all the way.
I think it's meant for kids who are a little more interested in scary things. It's a good gateway to horror, but still age appropriate. Depending on the kid in question, of course.
1. Of course The Mayor has two faces, he's a politician. 2. The Mayor didn't back up the Christmas idea for 365 days, it was only a little under two months because the movie started on Halloween. The 365 days was til the next Halloween.
Look up the 11 minute orginal story version narrated by Christopher Lee. Its actually fascinating to compare to both the narration and the movie when you see both.
The legendary Danny Elfman does Jacks singing voice and he is also the composer. Other Tim Burton gems that you should check out are, beetlejuice and the sequel Beetlejuice beetlejuice. Edward scissorhands is another great one, also Dark shadows and Dumbo and Batman and Batman returns. God bless you Collette xxxxxx
Can't believe this is your first time watching this. NMBC is one of my favorites, so iconic. I've had Jack as my wallpaper since September and thought it was appropriate to keep it till now haha. I love Tim Burton Movies in general and I feel you'd naturally enjoy these movies especially as a Halloween fan 🎃🎄 Yes, please watch Coraline. Even though it's not a Tim Burton film.. it has similar feels and it's another favorite of mine!
My generation was just built differently i suppose. This novie was absolutely considered a children's film when it came out. When i was a kid we rented books out of the library like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and grew up watching things like Night of the Living Dead. Yeah, we are built different 😂. And that's ok 😊. It's been awhile since I've watched this movie but I that I enjoyed it and I really love that it's claymation EXCELLENT😊thx for the video and Happy Christmas Eve🖤🤍
One of the little children that were singing was voiced by Paul Reubens who did Tim Burton's first movie Pee-wee's Big Adventure. That is my favorite Tim Burton movie. Another voice that was part of those little kids was Maureen O'Hara who was in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Also awesome Tim Burton movies. If you want to watch more Tim Burton, try his first film: Pee Wee's Big Adventure, It's fun and silly. In no way Halloween. And the music was also composed by Danny Elfman, the composer of this film and the singing voice for Jack, which you enjoyed so much. As you should.
Funnily enough, Coraline, like this movie, is directed by Henry Selick. Tim Burton created this story, but he isn’t the one who directed it. He has some excellent movies all to himself, though. Other great Tim Burton movies include, but not limited too, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands, and Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
For your own personal pleasure, Colette, you should take a couple of minutes to listen to VoicePlay sing the Oogie Boogie's song on RUclips. They are an acapella group, and their bass (who many refer to as the god of low notes) is PHENOMENAL!!! They also do their songs in full theatrical fashion, dressing the parts. I think you will enjoy it.
Since you enjoyed the music from this movie and you seem to have an eye for detail and passion for theatricality, I think you'd enjoy listening to/watching bass singer Geoff Castellucci and his acapella group Voiceplay. They've done several of the songs from this movie and Geoff did a solo cover if Jack's Lament. Not necessarily something for you to react to since you do movies, but something you might enjoy on a personal level. ruclips.net/video/TLvtw4nXou0/видео.htmlsi=Hr7S58Cq2Xdafy2A

The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of the best stop motion animated movies ever made. The soundtrack is immaculate. Merry Christmas Eve 🎄
I prefer the 1985: the life and adventures of santa claus stop motion short film
The voice of Jack was Danny Elfman, lead singer of Oingo Boingo, and composer of many movie & television scores.
Actually, having just looked it up, Danny Elfman does only the singing. The straight lines are spoken by Chris Sarandon.

The NightMARE before Christmas.
Corpse Bride and Big Fish are top of my list when it comes to Tim Burton. Sweeney Todd and Beetlejuice are great as well.
