Bartholomew Roberts was such a cool, cold, calm and calculated killer indeed at sea. His lavishingly style of fashion/dress and drinking of tea. As well as other oddly peculiar behavioral traits. I found them to be very interesting and animated about him. A superficial persona indeed for a pirate of his stature.
He’s probably my favorite pirate only to be rivaled by Blackbeard, and this is because of not only all the reasons in this video, but also because he’s like the only historical figure to share my birthday.
Regarding Roberts' burning the slave ship with slaves still aboard, this goes back to experiences during his childhood. He started his seafaring career as a boy aboard his father's merchant ship that was captured by pirates off the coast of East Africa. The survivors now without a ship were then captured by native Africans who either killed all adults or boiled them alive in large pots and cannibalized them. Only Roberts and another boy survived the ordeal. Roberts remained marooned for several years until rescued by another passing ship.
This was my ancestor, John Roberts from Wales, I am a direct descendant, I grew up with my grandma telling me stories about him, my grandmas maiden name was Janet Robert's.
the victory is the creator of history and I don't think black bart burned those slaves I think it was a way to ruin his name and it works cuz his name isn't mention with out what they claim he did rather than all the other amazing things he really did do
Bartholomew Roberts was my ancestor. On my maternal grandfather's side. He was a Welsh, Roberts descended from the same family line as "Black Bart". He was a mine safety inspector and payroll handler for the Westmoreland Coal Co. and kept quiet about that little detail of his family history, but our family all knew. I take exception with the notion that Bart was actually a woman in disguise. LOAD OF BULLSHIT! ✌
Trans part made me chuckle almost since i was offended by it, he made the crew swear oath on the bible and this was made to sully his name. My favorite anime about pirates One Piece does infact have "crossdresser/trans" pirates so i dont mind the thought, but let's stick to the truth. He is featured in large role on One Piece named "Bartholomew Kuma" and is good guy with a tragic end, allways carrying the bible
With all due respect THANK YOU!!!! For this video... Yet so many facts that are unknown... From my research most pirates were at war with the colonial forces/the state and slave owners. Black Bart was actually a Black man/navigator from Europe. Most history about pirates excludes slave ship rebellions. Its not a mutiny these slave /pirates have stole a colonizer's ship and without question are some of the bravest of all pirates. The freedom fighter "Pro Se" lawyer Sengbe Pieh (Cinque) of The Amistad uprising(1839) Stole the ship went to the supreme court WON and returned to Africa. The little George uprising of (1730) was well documented by the captain who speaks about the pirates ingenuity...
I find that only those who are jealous of a character, start slandering them, at the time. Captain Black Bart Roberts is an ancestor of mine. His wife raised their kids on land, and that's history.
why didn't you talk about why the called him the tea drinking pirate cause im doing a presentation about it and it would really help if you could tell me why the intternet isn't giving me answers
He was a hard Christian so drinking alcohol being a sin in the eyes of such religion meant that Robert's refused to touch the common prevision of alcohol on aboard therefore he drank tea instead.
Are you??? I'm a direct ancestor, on my fathers side, my grandma was born in fishguard Wales, Janet Roberts, me and my brother have grew up knowing he was our ancestor something I've always been proud of. How are you related?
Gem Anderson I’m quite late to this party but I saw your response here and had to let you know it made my day. I’ve heard so many people make this claim and you are the first to actually present a connection to the man that makes some sense. I do hope you continue to call out people making this claim because there is a lot of them strangely enough. It seems everyone wants to be connected to such a iconic and fascinating figure from history!

Damon Roberts most people with the last name roberts in wales are not related familys most bore welsh patronymics before settled names and many receiving those names from parishs and churches are from unrelated welsh familys not saying that you arent related to that roberts but many families in wales bearing the same surname are unrelated to one another so the chances of being related solely on name are slim

is that so Darren till?
^^ THAT is the most exquisitely-crafted paragraph I've ever witnessed online, or on paper.

The Legends of History
😂😂😂😂
Black beard and Bartholomew roberts, are true pirates!🗡
I wonder if the movie The Princess Bride got the dread pirate Roberts from this pirate. Great video.
I think he might've inspired the character in some way
Love all your videos! Question, are you going to be covering Davey Jones? 👍✌
Thanks so much :) Yes, I have some plans to cover Pirate mythology so he'll make an appearance. Stay tuned xD
My favorite Royal Shichibukai with a weird palm that can repel anything, including Air and Pain
He’s probably my favorite pirate only to be rivaled by Blackbeard, and this is because of not only all the reasons in this video, but also because he’s like the only historical figure to share my birthday.
But Black Barty took four hundred ships compared with Blackbeard's twenty.
I love your videos! Finaly a channel that covers pirate history

Ok sure Buddy
Is the the same Roberts depicted in the movie the Princess Bride?
I think he served as inspiration for the character, though I'm not sure.
Bullet proof AND immune to guns?? That's a man that runs from a knife fight I guess.
Sorry, it just stuck me funny. I love your pirate history videos!
Enjoying your pirate collection tfs.
I would love to hear you narrate a documentary on Animal Planet.
Haha! Maybe one day xD Thanks for watching!

Barti Ddu o Casnewydd Fach...!!! (Any Welsh readers of T. Llew Jones' book about Roberts here...?).

They can't even quote people accurately from last week. This drone education condition us to accept this shit as acceptable
It does not help that the video displays those ridiculous cartoonish fantasy pirate depictions.
This video does not cover about him being a sage and about the observatory at all
