Abrams, producer and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and writer Lawrence Kasdan. Chilliam Mace *Death Star* was an inside job. (You're seriously undercutting your own message; 9/11 doesn't need to have been an inside job for our wars in the Middle East to have been unjust, destructive, and wasteful.)

    I come back here every now and then, just to remember... The birth of my Star Wars. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi will forever be the Star Wars I grew up on and loved so deeply in my heart. I'll never forget how it felt, in the weeks, months, even years, leading up to this cinematic event. A masterpiece in my opinion. It feels like home. When I watch this, along with the movies themselves, it feels like I'm home again. Nothing can ever take that away from me.

    • @bradleyrushton7705
      @bradleyrushton7705 9 лет назад

      Bailey -99 ok the vast majority was CGI. It's called a purposeful exaggeration. So many things in those movies are CGI, they took the easy way out for everything. One solid example is the Clones. How hard is it to put people in costumes? Nah, just animate a whole clone army vs a whole droid army in a whole area that is one green screen. All SW films use practical fx, sets, etc. It's about where and how you use them, and more often then not, the prequels just opt out and cg it.

      It's not lying and you're a fucking idiot if you think the prequels have more real sets than the original films. The entire Endor battle was shot in an actual forest. The Hoth battle was filmed in Norway. That is a REAL SET you fucking bonehead, not something built in a studio backlot.

    • @djmitz9213
      @djmitz9213 9 лет назад +9

      The entire prequel trilogy had less location shots and practical sets than A New Hope alone. That says something.

    • @Tamers12345
      @Tamers12345 9 лет назад +16

      Gggmanlives I never said the original trilogy was all cgi. I know most of it was shot in real locations. I was just correcting you on something you didn't know. that the prequels used more practical effects and real sets than you originally thought.

      No doubt the movie will be a massive success,it's Star Wars. They've learned their lessons from Ep 1-3. However I won't be seeing this movie until maybe a few months later,maybe never. I'm really put off by Rey,I'm pretty sure they're gonna have her all too heroic. Most movies today try too hard to have a badass female and it ruins the movie. I have a feeling that's whats gonna happen here. Not excited at all on the new characters except the villains.

      Philip Clapper ok. I heard about that too, and thought for sure that Finn would be the main protagonist, but then i read new articles and such saying that Rey might end up slightly beating Finn as the main character in the movie, which is what confused me. But cool, because i think whoever ends up with the force should be the main protagonist.

We were excited as hell for the prequels, but theres something different in the air..you can feel it, you can see it in Harrison, Carrie and Mark...Look at Anthony Daniels face(C3P0) on set in that clip...he's in heaven. S&S Pictures Go to IMDB and go down to where it says "view technical details" or something like that. It gives you information on how the film was shot, aspect ratio, film length, etc. It really isn't surprising though that they were shot digitally, given that George Lucas made almost every single background digital, and it is highly unlikely he would have had the patience to keep changing out the reels LOL

      Sooo not the stories or actors or the scores or a combination of that? Just the practical effects made these classics? ;) So I agree that "Hollywood" should think of better ways to use the tremendous amount of freedom cgi gives but honestly this attitude of practical is always better is a little bit laughable. And why do advocates of "all practical" only ever mention great films with practical fx and then put them to bad cgi ones? Gravity, life of pi, Dawn of the planet of the apes, Rise of the planet of the apes, etc. are examples of cgi done and used right. Or would they look better with human actors that have gorilla costumes? :)

    • @JamesBond-hq9en
      @JamesBond-hq9en 9 лет назад +1

      eralec I know people never mention the good ones. Avatar for example, entire movie was CGI and it is a modern classic.
      Also, while I love practical effects and think that there are movies where using CGI would be silly, the effects aren't what made these movies. It was the stories, actors, scores and stunts/action. The effects are only a step above cinematography. And you never hear people talking about iconic cinematography.

    • @brianlynch9093
      @brianlynch9093 9 лет назад +1

      James Bond Avatar isn't a modern classic. It was just a blockbuster hit. In 10 years Avatar will look horrible, just like The Phantom Menace looks horrible now. Besides, Avatar stole Dances With Wolves' scenario. Real modern classics are much better, The Dark Knight is a good example.

      ***** A bit unfair, and despite the prequels being terrible movies I actually disagree; the prequels did come up with a lot of unique and innovative new environments and settings and stuff, they just sucked because they looked fake and too fantastical and stupid, and of course it didn't help that the movies were terrible as well. This new film seems to be playing it pretty safe with largely imitating the old films, but people like it b/c it looks good (real stuff not cgi) and is reminiscent of the OT.

      +N Villesanti Not specifically, that's just how people are interpreting it. They've said numerous times that they love George and the work he's done, they constantly show him love. It's more of a comment towards modern movies in general, many movies abuse CGI nowadays and JJ is trying to get away from that.

    • @nvillesanti2640
      @nvillesanti2640 9 лет назад +14

      +Bradley Rushton, So you are saying that GL didn't abuse CGI in the prequels??? If you look at episode 2 and 3, nearly 90% of the sets are green screens, not to mention that the clone troopers are CGI too!

      +Bradley Rushton You just didn't get the underline of what Hamill said, heck even Mayhew said it "bring back the old ways of doing things." Lucas didn't want to bring back the old ways, he wanted to use ALL CGI. Heck, it wouldn't have surprised me if Lucas wanted to make another Special Edition and replace the actors with CGI cartoons. Thank God Lucas has nothing to do with the new SW. Lucas lost his touch after Empire Strikes Back as a storyteller and instead became an entrepreneur.

    When George Lucas did the prequels no one back then had the balls to challenge him and there was no pressure on him. So that's why George Lucas didn't took the prequels seriously like he did with the original trilogy. Why do you think he changed director on every sequel with the original trilogy? Because he cared and had pressure on him. This time it is Disney and JJ Abrams up to the challenge and pressure is on them, let's see if they can handle it and make Star Wars great again.

    • @OWmyDragonballz
      @OWmyDragonballz 9 лет назад +9

      +The Dude 7 The prequels were good from a general story telling view. Palpatine being behind the plot of all the movies leading up to the birth of the empire was some of the best I have ever seen. Not many movies can pull that off.
      Hell, Episode I's plot was served to set things up for Palpatine so he can control the senate/Old Republic.
      The stories themselves were great, but the writing was mediocre at best and could get corny such as with Jar Jar binks and Kid Anakin.

    • @OWmyDragonballz
      @OWmyDragonballz 9 лет назад +3

      The Dude 7 Anakin was seduced by more than just Palpatine. It was also through his nightmares. Fear. Anger. Aggression. These are all seductions as well.

    • @thedude7567
      @thedude7567 9 лет назад +6

      ***** Nah his nightmares are not canon for me. Even back then before the prequels when I watched the original trilogy I always thought Darth Vader joined the Sith because he thought the Sith was more powerful. I always thought Vader wanted more power and take control of the Galaxy. His dream about Padme and he wanted to join the sith to save Padme is not Darth Vader for me. That was awful in my opinion, it makes him look soft.

    Is it possible to be a fan of the OT and the prequels in this fandom, besides a few of my good friends and I? Like, I love both trilogy's with every fiber of my being:) I will never get over the feeling of joining this wonderful world of Star Wars. It was one of the best days of my life!

    • @anakinspadme
      @anakinspadme 9 лет назад

      Little Miss Dysthymia Yeah that's very true, the haters are always on the internet complaining about the prequels, all the time. I think it actually scares off people, like us, who actually enjoy BOTH of the trilogy's. Though, they don't scare me because I'm proud to love both trilogy's and I don't care what the haters say! ;D And I'm always on tumblr (my tumblr account is: anakinspadme.tumblr.com) and I have several prequel fans but since the haters are so loud and consistently complaining about the prequels, it sometimes seems rare when people actually enjoy both, even though, I'm sure more people enjoy both but are to scared to admit it without getting hate sent to them.

    And in a few years, the prequel trilogy will only be remembered as "The movies with the lousy effects and when we lost a decade for making REAL Star wars movies".

      TOFKAS01 Don't count on it. It's far more likely that they'll see a reappraisal once the generation that grew up with the prequel trilogy is old enough to take the reins of pop culture.

      Rudy Redlin I grew up with the Prequel trilogy, kind of. I'm a 93' baby, so I was only like 7 or 8 when Phantom Menace came out. I turned into an adult, realized the prequels were pretty poor and now I really only like the originals. I don't think the prequel trilogy will ever be remembered by great by anyone, most people just out-grow them. Even when I first saw them as a kid, I knew something wasn't right about them. They just didn't feel right, now I know why.

      Bradley Rushton
      That's fine, but your experiences don't describe everyone else's. The prequels have plenty of older fans, and they're not totally despised among the general public (though the internet may give that impression).
      As for my own experience, which I admit is irrelevant? I liked them as a kid, convinced myself I hated them as a teenager/young adult, became interested in some of the more esoteric forms of cinema later on and have since then grown to appreciate them.

    • @bradleyrushton7705
      @bradleyrushton7705 9 лет назад +3

      Rudy Redlin My experiences definitely don't describe other people's experiences. I never claimed that. The prequel movies have a decent amount of fans, and generally they are considered poor films. The people I meet in my life on and offline rarely hold the prequels in high regard.
      My point is, Star Wars 4-6 are great movies to this day, the people who saw them in theatres still think they are great. I do not personally believe the prequels have that staying power, it's only been a handful of years and people are already referring to them as crap.
      I'm not saying they are totally crap, Ill watch them cause I like star wars. But they re-capture none of the magic and imo they won't be remembered as anything other than bad or ok films. They wont have this legacy like the other films.

    Can I TELL you how much this warms my heart?! Sure, okay, it's 2015 and there is expected to be some CGI ... but to see people in costume, and to see PROPS MADE just like it had been done in the original. It gives me shivers and tears.

    I'm a 3D artist and even I really like their decision to keep it to practical effects. I don't mind CG at all (as long as it's good of course) but Star Wars seemed to be born out of amazing practical effects, and it would feel weird with it full of CG.

    The prequel trilogy had a large share of practical effects and real sets. But it's supposed to look polished and new because it takes place in an era before the Empire took over everything.

      R E S T L E S S
      As quoted in an article I've read:
      "The Prequels look slick and new because it was an intentional story-driven choice.
      The time of the Prequel Trilogy is meant to be a 'Gilded Age'. This was the height of society under the Republic. Technology was strong, and everything was slick and advanced as society was prospering. When the Galactic Empire comes about, that all falls apart. Lucas meant to show that under the Empire technology, except for the Imperials of course, regressed. All of the money went to funding the Empire’s expansion, so everything else in the galaxy fell apart and became dirty and 'lived in.' The Rebels had to scrap together whatever they could.
      That’s why the Prequels look different than the Original Trilogy. Not because of CG, digital filmmaking, or anything technical. It’s because the movies were showing a different era of the Star Wars saga"

      GameStation3 Maybe in Ep 1. In Episodes 2 and 3 they really did use virtual CGI sets for what seems like a good 90% of the film, or more. It was ridiculous. nothing tangible. Maybe in a few years the CGI would be at that point, but Lucas did jump the gun on that count and lost so much of the visual spirit and atmosphere of the originals as a result.

      *****
      Most of the blue and green screen images were set extensions, not the sets themselves. Read this, please: furiousfanboys.com/2014/05/the-star-wars-prequels-sets-or-green-screen/7/

      GameStation3 I think you're missing the point. It's not how polished or new things look in the prequels that are so objectionable. It's how little connection or reaction actors seem to have to digital characters. It's how little empathy an audience has for CGI robots fighting CGI clones. It's how every scrap of human emotion seemed to get squeezed from even the humans standing in computer generated rooms.
