From the moment Star Wars was first announced in 1974 or 75, I was enthralled, following every rumor and announcement. I was there at the first showing in my town and, despite having very little money, I saw it 7 times, the most times I've EVER seen a movie in theaters. I hooked my little brother on Star Wars and raised my children on the movies, too. I LOVE behind the scenes documentaries, so THANK YOU for sharing this on your channel!
One of the earliest memories I have is being not quite 4 watching Jedi in a theater and being completely mesmerized with that world. Idk how I was able to follow a sequel to movies I hadn’t seen but it was like a religious experience and it defined the rest of childhood. Not exactly sure what month but it was in the summer of 1983. I saw the other 2 soon after and loved them as well but don’t have a specific memory of that. Life began that night in 83
I love the "When you're making Star Wars there's really no choice but to shoot it on film" line. It contrasts so vastly with what Lucas himself said in the Attack of the Clones behind the scenes - something to the effect of: "I wish we could have been shooting digitally 30 years ago."

That's the risk with bringing in fans to revive and reboot old franchises: they think they know what made the old films tick, but really they know only what they liked about them. Of all the reasons Star Wars was a smash success, shooting on film was never one of them; it was simply a constraint of the time.

Abrams had the opportunity to make anything he wanted, and he remade the original Star Wars. That really shows a fundamental lack of creativity on his part. Imagine having the world at your fingertips and you just copy someone else’s work. Wild.

JJ's idea of "raising the stakes" is ALWAYS to take something from an earlier movie and x1000 it.

I respectfully disagree. The thing is people will always have an opinion. It's really easy to judge but these people really worked hard to deliver. I think JJ was trying to please the fans by not changing the world of Star Wars too much. Just think about it, what would have happened if JJ had wrote a very crazy story that had nothing to do with SW lore? like I don't know a Jedi that turns into a vampire at night or anything crazy you can think of. My example is silly, I just want to point out that even as bad as the movie might be for most people, but it could have been a lot worse. Besides JJ wasn't the only writer, Lawrence Kasdan was a co-writer too, who by the way worked on The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983).

Hamill's first instincts were correct. As were Ford's. The sequel trilogy was a mistake from the start. A massive mistake.

As someone who’s never watched Star Wars, I shouldn’t have a say in this but I will anyways…
From what I’ve observed, people have different feelings about the sequel trilogy, some hate is, some like it, others are a mix of both. As a bit of a noob to the Star Wars universe, I have no idea how I feel about the sequel trilogy, as The 2015 one is the only one I’ve ever seen (back when it released and I went with my parents to see it)
But here’s my opinions:
it’s been years since the older movies, years, while the continuation is said to be ‘bad’ I personally don’t see the problem, aside from Rey, who seems extremely obnoxious.
Kylo Ren on the other hand, his character intrigues me the most in the sequels, ya know, killed his own dad, turned to the Dark Side, he seemed pretty lost.
The relationship between Rey and Kylo/Ben also seems a bit odd, but I see it working, even though he, you know, dies🙄
Please no hate on this comment, I’m new to the Star Wars universe so if I got anything wrong please let me know in a polite way!

Just wish these movies had more time in narrative development - an arc over the three films that was established before shooting the first film. Luke, Han, and Leia deserved better than they got - especially Luke. This first film had promise and set up some interesting plot threads, but Rian cut those threads while Disney allowed the story to wander into an incohesive mess.

I really enjoyed the Force Awakens. It really felt like Star Wars. The ones that followed not so much in my opinion.
They all felt like star wars to me. But the force awakens felt so whole. Like we were coming back to what we knew as a kid. My favorite memory is when the resistance arrives at Takodona and Poe goes crazy on the ties.
I loved this movie and the actors were great, after this movie it's like they put the movie together as they were filming it, the script was not the best and it left a lot of unanswered questions at the end of the trilogy

I love the Documentary but did Abrams really just copy George Lucas film from the original if that is so then he is lacking imagination , so is film alot better than Digital which one is best ? So, aren’t you basically advocating for a woman protagonist with that statement? What’s the difference? And, you’re right, by the way. The very moment I heard the lead was a female, I knew the sequels were doomed. They were obviously in the hands of people who wanted to make political statements rather than great films. Aside from all that, the movies also just sucked. Nothing original at all. The cast was horrible. I saw the original Star Wars 100+ times in movie theaters as “home video” wasn’t a thing yet. I was 10-11 years old. Those movies meant something to me and it wasn’t what sex the lead character was or how many of certain races appeared equally. They didn’t include a gay kiss just to have a gay kiss. It was about the story and cutting edge cinematic achievement.

@Germoney814 cuz she had nothing to do with Rogue One and the Mandalorian. Rogue One she was too busy raping Luke with The Last Jedi, all she did was order reshoots from Tony Gilroy. Mandalorian seasons 1-2 were entirely John Favreau.
