Thank you John. Glad it was helpful. I don't think either would damage or impregnate the metal but I would be worried about getting shavings from the softer lunches moved in the joint. I used a tapered drift punch as the business end and cut to length, 4". The small end measures .450", the hammer end is .625", the handle diameter is 1" and the handle length from center of punch end is 9". Mike
Terry, I noticed a very slight click on a couple of the switchbacks coming down off Black Bear at full lock and then again when we were going over California Pass just before we turned off on to Placer & Picayne. Nowhere near as severe of clicking like four years ago but I wanted to rebuild the joints before Spearfish and Moab gatherings to avoid the funny looks and embarrassment.
She’s not sure. She thinks she heard it on California but she said she didn’t hear it on Black Bear. She thinks I’m being overly anal or overly sensitive. I’m not buying it.

Yes Paul. I made the “punch hammer” several month ago just for rebuilding RCV shafts.
