▶️ If you're in need of new teeth, dental implants may be a good option for you. Dental implants are small, artificial tooth roots that are placed into the jawbone to support a replacement tooth or bridge. They provide a strong foundation for permanent or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.
▶️ The first step in the process is to have a consultation with your dentist to determine if you're a good candidate for dental implants. They will take x-rays and make impressions of your teeth to plan the placement of the implants.
▶️ Next, the implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. This is typically done under local anesthesia and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the number of implants being placed. Once the implant is in place, it will need to fuse with the bone, a process called osseointegration, which can take several weeks to several months.
▶️ Once the implant has fully fused with the bone, an abutment, or connector, will be placed on top of the implant to connect the implant to the replacement tooth or bridge. Your dentist will then take an impression of your teeth to create a customized replacement tooth or bridge that will be permanently attached to the abutment.
▶️ After the replacement tooth or bridge is placed, you'll need to take care of your new teeth just as you would with your natural teeth. This includes regular brushing and flossing, as well as regular check-ups with your dentist to ensure the implant and replacement tooth or bridge is secure and in good condition.
