- Dieter Kurtenbach said that the rest of the San Francisco 49ers’ season is a “referendum” on Brock Purdy. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes discuss Purdy’s performances and if the 49ers’ struggles can be blamed on him. Plus, they discuss the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive woes and if they can right the ship before the playoffs.

Nick's "Andy Reid is playing 5D chess" thing is just fantasy football talk. 1, it's unfalsifiable: if the KFC Chefs win the SB, his theory is still just a theory; if they don't, it's still just a theory. 2 Occam's Razor says they're just doing their best in these games, not playing 5D chess.

After nick threw a parade for Trevor Lawrence signing a gigantic undeserved contract he is longer allowed to criticize teams paying a QB.

Except he's willing to excuse other quarterbacks for the same reason he wants to hold Purdy accountable.
@@jehushaphat your definitely right, but if you look at San Francisco’s situation moving forward they are never going to have the same amount of avengers like they did last year and it’s more realistic to think that Purdy is going to have weapons similar to what he has this year moving forward

The thing about a team having all the AVENGERS is...due to the high cost of having such talent on level 1, the drop off from starters to backups is MUCH higher than other teams. I'd say a more fair season to judge Purdy on is when he has a team with less of the "avengers" and much more depth of B-C graded talent.
@ that’s a fair point because when the avengers aren’t playing he is playing with trash weapons except Jordan mason hes solid
Following Purdy's rookie season, Nick was quick to claim that Purdy would be figured by midway the next season (2023)... he led the 49ers to the superbowl and played amazingly poise in the game for someone so young and Nick often calls a mid QB.

It's embarrassing.....
Most team will reward and overpay slightly for rookie contract performance. Brock deserves at the very least $48 mil per year and you can argue that $65 million is also fair due to back pay.

There is ZERO objectivity from Nick when it comes to Purdy. He simply does not like him and nothing Purdy does will ever be good enough.
Its because of trey lance. He wont admit he missed on lance being a superstar qb for the niners. Once he and garopollo got hurt and purdy started winning, he felt lance got a raw deal and they gave up on him too early. Plus since purdy is mr. Irrelevant he is looking for him to fail to justify being the last pick of that draft.
Nah, Purdy has proven him correct this season. Take away the insane weapons and he’s average at best.
Because he doesn’t elevate the team in any way? And he doesn’t deserve to get paid 50-60 million dollars a year?

@@deciuswtasbyI think he would be willing to take that but the 49ers are probably going to give him more in the range of 40-45 million a year which is right in the middle of the league basically after this last off season where Goff, Dak, and Lawrence all got overpaid.
Exactly. Everybody thinks because Dakota got his deal that now every QB after will get the same. Purdy is a real humble guy and I believe he will take a more team friendly deal to keep everything together.

He’s a good player who should get paid but should come nowhere near resetting the market imo 💯 we’ll see how the season finishes out
He doesn’t hold Brock to top five standards. He holds him to the most unrealistic standards ever. He holds them to higher standards than Mahomes. Think about it Omi is having a worse season statistically than Purdy is, but because his record is better he skates Mahomes by but also uses the argument about the injuries that the chief have as an excuse as to why Mahomes is playing so poorly, but Purdy has a worse situation than Mahomes in that department, but he says that because Purdy can’t produce, even though he’s doing better than Mahomes, it’s all Purdy‘s fault.
Nick said Purdy was average without a stacked roster and he was right about that.
Everything Nick has said about Purdy has been objectively true. The data from this season has shown when he doesn’t have all his weapons his teams not winning and he doesn’t look that great either.
Purdy is avg. maybe slightly above avg. Jordan Love, Herbert are Good for example.

Every GOOD quarterback struggles with major injuries in the offense, man. It's a disruption in the scheme and personnel. Part of why they struggle is not because of their lack of skill or talent but more because of the lack of continuity due to the personnel changes in the offense. The most FAIR thing would be to wait and see how he plays next season.

@ He’s had more good seasons, games, etc than he’s had bad so. Still somehow leading the league in multiple QB stats while having this sh*t excuse for an offense
The fact that his top target is a WR3 shows that he can get it done with mid level talent. All he needs is a receiver to run the correct routes. The rookies hes playing with just aren't disciplined enough to run their routes cleanly.
I would really love if they could do a segment where Nick lays out and lets Wildes and Brou discuss Purdy, Goff, and Lamar Jackson in the same segment. I really don't know what their opinions are other than to defend them or disagree with everything Nick says about them. Let them do their own QB ranking segment so that they are forced to rank all of the QB's and we can see which guys are held accountable and which ones get a pass for personnel problems.
As a 9ers fan I can’t stand the Purdy fans they think he’s the next Montana
...he leads the 49ers in most yards in framchise history. He is a great qb. Not montana but he is great. Lead in almost every qb stat last year
hes not that but jerry rice himself made those comparisons
I mean I like him and I’m a fan but no one’s saying that Lmfao 🤣, he can be really good, idk why that’s such a hot take for some like Nick
I’m a Niner fan and I can’t stand it either. I’ve never seen a good QB cause so much drama. He isn’t elite which everyone seems to agree on but there is this need to either lower the bar for him or act like he isn’t good at all, just being lifted by talent around him.
@Jerry been quiet this whole season he was selling you hope. Only people who don’t no football would think he’s a franchise quarterback
Just move on from Brock… and let’s see what happens. Kyle and John already blew the Trey Lance pick. Nick died on that hill. Kyle is also a bit overrated as a play caller and be one dimensional if the run game isn’t working.
I was worried they weren't going to have a Chiefs segment. Phew....🙄😴🤮😪
The show does great numbers…if they insist on doing Chiefs segments all the time what does that tell you knuckle head? People love the Cheifs talk
🧂🧂🧂 have a seat 💺or go watch another PLATFORM....THIS IS CHIEFS KINGDOM 👑 😂
@@jonathanhoward8608CHIEFS **.and respect to your assessment homie ..(816)
What if they pay Purdy a baker style contract 3yrs/100million or 4yrs/160million?
If he asks for less than 60 million, SF should count their blessings. Dak got that. Numerous other QBs that Purdy has outplayed (Watson, Love, Lawrence, Tua) are all making over 50. That's a pretty strong argument for Purdy.
Your proposal would be good. However, if he plays well on that deal, then you're renegotiating in 2-3 years for how much? 65 or more?
The QB market is only inflating, and I don't see it becoming any cheaper any time soon.
He’s not accepting that lmfao
Brock is next up. He should and will reset the market at $63M per year.
And then what? What’s the goal for the Niners? All these teams keep resetting the market paying good QBs elite money and then the team is in shambles.
YES PLEASE😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@kghd2647 I’m a Niner fan. I’m sure that you as a Chiefs fan who watched that stacked team last year lose to your team with him making minimum wage are definitely going to be afraid of the Niners going forward once he is making the most money in the NFL right? Lol I’m sure it’s keeping you up at night 😂
@@saint14johnson couldn't have said it better myself🤣🤣🤣
A great way to thrust the 49ers into an era of mediocrity.
Dear FTF,
Love the show! I'm an avid watcher/listener who lives in Doha, Qatar. Quick observation, Wildes just cannot seem to handle Nick's "practice" idea with the Chiefs. Wildes is like Allen Iverson basically saying, "we talking bout practice, not a game, but practice".
Enjoying the banter!
Marrice
Brou couldnt find the All-22 footage with GPS. 😂
I hope the 49ers do pay Purdy, but why stop at $60Mil? Let's makes it $75 average a year for ten years.. No one will ever need to worry about them being competitive ever again. 😂
Nick is 100% right about KC practicing scenarios in a real game. They would rather go into a Super Bowl with 1 more loss and 100% prepared than 1 more win and 99% prepared.
You're talking about the 3 peat. You don't enter that 99% ready.
😂😂Yall both reaching really hard with that. They don't have the players right now. I watch the game Mahommes aint practicing running for his life getting sacked and knocked around. Not saying they won't get better but cmon now they sqeaked by the Panthers
Calm down Nick
Mahomes got sacked for a combined TEN times by the 2 worst defenses in back to back weeks. Their O line isn’t 3 peat material.
They aren't practicing scenarios. Lol. Nick is delusional or trolling.
No offense but I think this is totally delusional. The chiefs have broken people’s brains since last year because of how they won the superbowl, everyone thinks they must be so good that they are constantly in control of every game. The reality is they are trying to win every game just like any other team, they aren’t running science experiments on 3rd down with the 1 seed and a first round bye at risk…every team experiments to some degree in the NFL, but the season shows that the chiefs offense overall is just not as good as it used to be.
The Passer Rating doesn't even come close to telling the whole story. Just because he's not making many mistakes, doesn't mean he's making plays - he's missed a lot of opportunities.
🥶 da LEGEND! LFG!
No, but watching him play convinces you he's 'making plays'
@jehushaphat I have watched him play... which is where my opinion on the subject came from 😅 I don't think Purdy is bad, I've been saying he's just above average all along.
@@Frosty_tha_Snowman fair enough. I just just feel he's had to deal with a lot this year -- horrific special teams, constant changing lineups, injuries (of his own), and bad play calling -- and has played well in spite of all that.
Sam Darnold passer rating 102.5 👀
Take away Justin Jefferson. The best WR in the entire NFL. Just saying.
@@byronsmith3152 why tf would you take him away? He's part of the team
@@Mike7064 Because Darnold is trash without him. Do you not understand what is being discussed here?
@@byronsmith3152 A lotta QBs are bad without their star receiver
@@Mike7064 I understand that and that is the entire point. However, Brock is the only QB that they ignore that fact about.
Real ones remember Dieter Kurtenbach from that episode in summer 2022 where Brou finds one last article about why Jimmy G's teammates love him 😂😂 that is genuinely one of my favorite clips of this show's history.
Nicks denial of they are just practicing n not “using their best plays” is the funniest coping I’ve seen in a while
Ask the 15 teams that lost to KC in the Playoffs about that, lol!
Purdy should just sign a 2 year 50 million contract with 49ers and give them room to add talent. The best place for Purdy to remain a starting nfl quarterback is on the niners, tossing the ball on-time to weapons. Why hold-out and risk getting traded to the raiders or browns?? I mean, if Purdy aspires to be battling it out with Gardner Minshew or Jameis next year, then go ahead. I'd rather just take my 2 years 50 million guaranteed and say ...thankyou 49ers!!
You’d be a terrible gm lmfao purdy is getting paid
@@balleraap007 So you say offering Purdy 25-30 million per year for two years isn't paying him??
I’m not saying the Chiefs gonna lose anything until they DO! Those mfs always pull out some magic and win
What bothers me about the 49ers side of the Purdy contract discussion, is that Nick is advocating for the team to go get a 1st Round QB (again) and get that "Rookie Contract" value and build the team around him. But that relies on the front office and scouting department DRAFTING GOOD.
The flip side of that argument, is given the 49ers track record over the last DECADE, which position would you trust them to draft better? Let's go over the Offensive non-QB Pro Bowlers they've drafted:
TE George Kittle
WR Deebo Samuel
T Joe Staley
G Mike Iupati
TE Vernon Davis
RB Frank Gore
How many QB? Just Brock Purdy *last year*.
The idea that you can draft a Top 10 QB right away, but you can't draft any impact weapons is a ridiculous idea. Fix the Defense first, go get some weapons for Kyle Shannahan's offense!
Is it really necessary for the chiefs to be in every show
Yes
Well the ratings are great and they talk about the Chiefs all the time...doesnt take a rocket scientist to connect the dots does it?
nick tosses kc salad before every show.
This has to be one of the dumbest questions I've ever read. Is it necessary for the 2 time(hasn't been done in 20 years) defending champion attempting to 3 peat (never been done before) who is 11-1 to be discussed on a show that only talks about the NFL? Golly, I don't know Jessie, you tell me.
When your 2 time world champions. Yes
pssst.... The actual problem is simple.... Release Staley. This is the Staley effect. They brought him in and Defense tanked haha
I am really getting tired of all the Chiefs or 49ers talk everyday...i would like you guys to talk about a little more different Teams. (Sorry if bad english i am from germany)
Wildes disappointed at the end had me cracking up
They should trade Purdy to NYJ. The jets would heavily overpay.
If yall questioned Lamar money then yes Purdy doesn't deserve his money!!! No way!!!
Nick makes this show hard to watch. His smug attitude & big nose flopping everywhere
Toucan billed. Nose like a Toucan 😂😂
The quarterback protection is a problem. Last time it was this bad, we were saying Mahomes wasn't to blame for the loss against Brady in the superbowl.
Do these GMs know that they have 3 Franchise Tags they can use?
It is a mistake to pay a QB you drafted before he wins you a Super Bowl.
Since 2000, Peyton Manning has been the ONLY QB who needed 5 years or more as the starter to win a Super Bowl for the team that drafted him.
QBs need to be treated like RBs.
Disposable.
LOL
Bingo! Teams need to stop overpaying decent to good QBs elite money. Some team is going to buck the trend. I hope it’s the Niners. None of those teams paying elite money for those QBs are legitimately winning the Super Bowl or guaranteed to be in the playoffs each year.
Nick will never ever forgive Purdy for Nick being so wrong about Trey Lance.
But aye man, I’m tired of people talking about Brock like he been in the league 5-6 years. He’s basically in year 2 as a full time starter. Of course he needs support. Most young QBs do. Josh Allen second year starting he was MID. So I don’t get the whole argument about Purdy needs everything perfect. He doesn’t. He just needs protection and receivers to get open. He’s still growing and we’ll see what he turns into in a few years when the game slows down for him. Growth and development is needed.
Exactly! Anyone trashing Purdy on year two, while Trevor Lawrence remains a mid qb on year 4 is NUTS
No one would be discussing Brock purdy if people didn’t crown him way too early and say he was a top 5 QB. If everyone just said it’s a good story and he’s a solid starter, we wouldn’t we dumping on him. But everyone said he’s top 5, so how we treat him like a top 5 QB whose team is 5-7 and he’s to blame
nobody saying hes top 5 qb relax
Burrow is 4-8 and is a top 5 QB lol.
I am with you Wildes. The Chiefs aren’t practicing. Nick is missing a lightbulb. I am a Chief’s fan. Andy called a bad play.
I'll never believe the chiefs (or any team that has something to play for) is practicing in an NFL game.
Wildes catching Nick with the "you said they've been practicing all season" and Nick comes back with a story to make whatever garbage he was saying seem right! LOL! Great job, Wildes, pointing out the obvious flaws to Nick since he clearly can't see them for himself.
Only qb that can carry a team is mahomes, so far all the other tier one qbs have not won the Super Bowl. Purdy is a solid tier two that with a good team can make the Super Bowl and win. Build around him and you are solid.
Unless he costs 60+ mil...
14:11.....Wildes face when Nick says the Chiefs are practicing says it all. I love my Chiefs and Nick but this take is crazy.
60M per year is insane. Meanwhile fans are saving up for months just to go to a single game.
Nick points to this season as being more indictive of how Brock will play going forward without as much talent, but one thing none of them point out is that there is a difference between going into a season having a less talented team around you, and having that occur during the season due to injuries. If Purdy had an off-season with Jennings as his primary target, Pearsall not being out with a gunshot wound, Guerendo in there as RB, and Shanahan coming up with a game plan that suited this group of players, the on-field play might have been at least a little better.
8:10 what would this offense be like with three #1 picks on o-line?
This Purdy take isn't groundbreaking; every quarterback struggles with injuries to members in the offense. The struggle is more due to the lack of continuity and flow in the offense than due to the ineptitude or lack of talent of the quarterback. The most fair thing we can do is to gauge how Purdy plays next season without the frequent changes in key offensive personnel.
Nick got a good way of spinning the chiefs offense clearly being what it ain’t used to be into a positive
As a longtime KC fan, I think Nick has a lot of takes on us that are very in lock step with a lot of KC fans. The 'they treat regular season as practice' narrative is a stretch. If you are saying they are always trying to get better, sure. But to pretend they aren't trying to win and only care about getting better is ignoring the fact that all they care about is winning. Mahomes recently said I just want to win. What I would argue is they stopped caring how winning looks and are willing to win in whatever fashion it takes.
Purdy sucks 😂 geno smith is leagues better and has the worst o line in the nfl for 3 straight years (most pressured sacked qb)
These 49ers segments are gold
Totally agree with Nick! The 49ers need to reset the QB clock. If the 49ers pay Purdy, it will cost the franchise at least 4 years of having non playoff teams. This would be worse than Lawrence, Jones, etc
I believe the 49ers current WR core has the worst separation rate of any other team in the league. Purdy is having to throw completely perfect tight window dimes or else they can’t complete a pass. Something nobody mentions
One of the things that was supposedly so great about Purdy, at least according to his diehards, was that he was elite at throwing accurately into tight windows and with anticipation.
@@juultoo Are you saying the average QB looks average without 9 Pro Bowlers?
You can't look at the Chiefs plans for the regular season through the same lens after last season. They usually have homefield, but then won two road playoff games back to back. It's rare that a champion plays two road games in the playoffs. So home field doesn't matter to them, the bye doesn't matter to them. The division matters, and then they go from there.
I agree with Drafting a QB if we're a high pick. I think Purdy is solid but, no HOF. I'd say pay him somewhere between Winston and, Mayfield for 2 years with a club option for a third season. If not, move on from him. Definitely not a $35-60 million a year QB
The Niners are getting old fast, they need better healthy position players. Drafting a qb is crapshoot. I'd take Purdy all-day, any-day over Quin Ewers or Carson Beck... on a midrange contract like 25 million
