  • How to repair a broken ABS plastic button on a Sodastream Spirit with just a nail and a length of garden wire!
    If you're pressing the button on your SodaStream and no gas comes out, but the bottle is fine, it might be a broken button.
    NOTE: This will almost certainly void your warranty, so bear that in mind if you go ahead with this idea. I imagine the repair should last a long time if done well, but I'm not giving you any kind of guarantee - I'm just sharing what worked on my own machine in good faith, your experience might be different.

    This worked perfectly, Sodastream offered a new unit for 50% off, cuz mine was out of warranty, but this was satisfying to fix and only took slightly longer than your video. The last 30 seconds was an excellent addition. Thanks!

    Great idea. Another hack, I couldn't get the pin out, but it was hollow, so I managed to thread picture hanger wire right through the existing pin, then wired the button down. Terrible weak point in the design. Will hope the wire holds. Thanks!

    Great idea, I mended mine with super glue and 2 small washers( one on each side) on outside. The pin was a bit of a mission to get out but a small amount of heat from hair dryer did the trick. 😊

    Man, i needed your video 4 years ago :) I had a similar solution but it used a couple of cable ties plus extra holes instead of wire and the pin replacement screw. That was also 100% functional but i couldn't close the device anymore because the cable tie locks took too much space. My wife banned it from the kitchen (i'm still using that at work) and i had to buy a replacement. Fast foward 4 years and i'm facing the same problem with the second sodastream. Used your solution this time and it's way easier. Thanks a lot!

      Could probably use a rubber band instead of wire.

    This is a very good help video. When I press the charge button I get a hiss of escaping CO2. Is this correct or does the bottle seal need to be replaced?

    • @IainFraser81
      @IainFraser81  10 месяцев назад

      The gas will come out of the unit when you press the button whether you've attached a bottle or not. If gas hisses out of the nozzle, that's a good indication it's working!

    Did you replace the yellow bit (gaz bottle holder) because I struggle to change mine on the same model. I can't figure out where the tab that prevents it from sliding out is and how to release it. As mine is white, I wondered if you managed to swap it for a yellow spare part!

    • @IainFraser81
      @IainFraser81  Год назад +1

      Thank you mate! Well, I can tell you that after a year of pretty heavy daily use, it's still going strong! It really is such a stupid weak point in the design. I don't know how they could modify their process to make it stronger without expensive retooling though. I think if they made the pin a little longer and started manufacturing a stamped metal clip to slide over the top and hold onto the bottom of the bit that fails, that would probably give you the necessary reinforcement and fix the problem for good. Dunno what it would add to the cost though.
      I'm sure they probably sell them at a loss already, because the money is in the gas and the syrups, so they'll be reluctant to make it more expensive to produce. But I can't imagine a clip would add much more to the cost when done at scale.

    Hey, i need some help. Every time i put my CO2 tank in the button starts pushing against the plastic frame + is it normal that a small amount of the CO2 comes out of the back? I don't wanna screw the tank too much in, it would definitely break my plastic

    ALL sodastreams have the same plastic lever. It doesn't matter which model you buy. I know, because I've had several different types and they all eventually have the same problem.

    Thanks man, this ought to get me a bit more time out of this thing. Shame they make these things out cheap plastic, and don't even sell parts. For a company that emphasizes waste reduction, they sure do make their product to be junked in a few years.

      It is really disappointing. Feels like SodaStream hired a bunch of MBAs in recent years. This has the hallmarks of a genius cost cutting initiative by a man in a suit.
