Listen to you chuckleheads talking about $30 cables and I wish iOS was a real operating system - COME ON. First of all don't ever expect a toy iOS to run Pro OS apps like Pro Tools or Logic - of course they have to dumb it down (and call it Garageband) for the hobbyist that isn't serious. If you were serious you'd spend the lousy $150 for the USB/Firewire/Thunderbolt interface which immediately gives you PRO I/O with XLR mic inputs and near zero latency to connect your mics and guitars to and use ANY DAW of your choice. On a COMPUTER. But for free you can't beat Logic Jr. aka Garageband - it runs plug-ins from lots of 3rd parties but kids- don't expect your toy iOS to ever compete with Mac OS - not this year anyway..😮
I wasn't really sure how best to reply to this comment. I shared it with my community on Facebook - here are some of their thoughts on it: "Let’s face it, our experience prejudices us. This dude has probably not experienced the depth of rich, quality tools that are available for GB on IOS. What matters is making music to delight the ears of our listeners (even if it’s only the ears sandwiching our brains). And why does it have to be GB on IOS OR some other DAW? Why not IOS AND whatever else let’s you express your bad self." "It’s absolutely bang on the money. I use gb almost exclusively for my PRO recording & production! But couldn’t n wouldn’t on iOS. Good interface is everything after that gb all the way. What does everyone listen on these days? Oh yeah, terrible little micro speakers & 3rd rate apple ear buds - so yes, gb is way ahead of that quality 😉" "The final test is a listening test. People that pick these fights are not likely able to judge the qualities that make a superior recording or performance in the first place. The same arguments are made for guitar amps and tubes versus solid state and sims versus real. Play it and say nothing about ‘what’ it is and ask for a judgement. They have a 50/50 chance of guessing correctly. But in the right hands the difference is inaudible." "Tell him that a track on Kendrick Lamar’s album “Damn” used GarageBand on iOS lolz" Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍
Not to offend people that for some reason are stuck trying to use a Mobile OS for "pro" apps, of course you can produce "music" without a computer or phone OS using a cassette deck (yes, it's been done) multitrack digital recorder or even iOS. My point is most craftsmen use the proper tool for the job and a Mobile OS like iOS will never compete with a full blown computer so why not stop trying to make a phone or tablet do what it's not supposed to (unless you are happy with mere retro low-fi loops like Kendrick used) because mobile devices lack multi I/Os, not enough memory/speed/cores/4k screens etc), and re-write code that would compete with a much superior FREE platform aka Mac OS. It's the same with guys that bitch about GB not having busses and such - really? If you need the busses and such - pop the lousy $2 bills and get Logic! 🎼

Great Vid thanks Pat. But you missed the 'Extra Super Dooper Uber Cheaper' option. When I first started using GB many years ago, I bought a $3 1/4" to 1/8" connector plug and played straight into the Mac's 1/8" Mic input. Actually worked pretty well, and I recorded some cool songs this way. Not sure that particular 'hole' exists in modern Macs though.
I contacted my guitar with an iRig (idk what model is, is the most basic I think, with the headphones output...) And it works but at the moment I start to play a horrible noise sound, idk how to fix that, I have watched a lot of videos on RUclips and no one helps. (Sorry if my English is not very well, I'm not an English speaker) Thank you for your video, keep it up!
Plugged my guitar into a Fender Mustang 1 v2 amp and then plugged the amp into my Mac using the supplied usb cable. GB immediately recognised the amp and allows me to record using my amp presets and the GB presets... another DI to use... in addition I finally managed to get my Mac to download Fender Fuse...
I'm using old macbook white 2007 and plug my guitar straight to mic port and the headphone to audio output. No need any extension devices. I don't know why Apple doesn't make separated audio port anymore. That was very important and cheap solution.
I bought a Pod Xt (bean shape) and use that. Less than £30 and also works as a back up DI rig. You can hear the recording quality on my channels latest song 'Fading'.
Great video Patrick, cheers! I use a Focusrite 2i4 which like the 2i2 gives great results with the guitar plugged straight into it using GB's inbuilt amps . I also invested recently in a Boss GT100 which has a direct usb output. I've used that with great results but better still is the GT100's standard output via the Focusrite instead of an amp.
Thank you brother for the video. While watching the video I saw that you had a Focusrite and I said to myself that it looked familiar because I have the Focusrite 4i4. Cheers from America!!!

Does anyone have any experience with high quality jack-usb cables like Behringer's products for instance? I had bought the same cable like in the video and I confirm it's really really bad. BTW I still miss my Epi LP ultra3 with usb. Was perfect for quick recording. Unfortunately had to sell it ;/ cheers
I assume that having an interface for a microphone would also work better than just plugging one in? I’m looking to buy one for my guitar/bass and another for my ANKO microphone that has a USB-A cable, and most of the audio interfaces don’t have an input for that, most use the standard huge mic input. Any answer from anyone would be appreciated

Ger Bear haha. You can hear what my sm57 through focusrite 2i2 into garage band on my cover of blackbird solo (latest vid). Turns out it's a great bass mic as well which I found out the other day
I got a question: I just bought a Focusrite Scarlet solo interface. I plug in my acoustic guitar into the scarlet. The scarlet recognizes my guitar but GarageBand doesn't. I set up the input and output to recognized scarlet but Garageband is not reading it. Do you know what I did wrong?
@@brunapasquotto8801 I've figured it out after writing this :) lol. When you plug in your instrument or mic into the scarlet or any audio interface, then you go to New Track in GarageBand. On that New Track/Choose a Track Type window, on the lower left where it says Input and you have a drop-down menu, you got to change to Input 2 because Input one is for Mic, Input 2 is for guitars/instruments. That's what I did wrong I had it on Input 1 and I wasn't getting any signal on GarageBand. lol Check to see if you have it on Input 1.
If I’m not super great at music, I should probably lay down drums first right? I just worry the timing of my guitar would drift too much and adding drums later would be almost impossible... I notice on ur video with just a laptop at least it’s NOT sounding distorted. But my new iMac cannot give me that undistorted sound?
Really great video, just picked up an audio interface and will try that on my Mac. but I was wondering-I currently use an iRig 2 with my iPhone. I was able to set GarageBand to run in the background, but can I actually record a video so that the audio picked up is the GarageBand audio? I’ve tried a few different things but the audio that the video recording picks up is always the direct guitar input. I just want to record both the video and audio simultaneously so I don’t have to sync afterwards 😅
I like the sound of my fender amp. How do I record that on my GarageBand? Tried to go from amp headphones output to the audio interface but the sound is awful.
Record your amp with a microphone. Plug the mic into an audio interface that's attached to your Mac. More info here: ruclips.net/video/CT5RNHEX43M/видео.html
Using the iRig pro, can you hear your guitar through the amp you choose on garage band WHILE you’re playing? This may be a dumb question, I jus have no clue haha
Thank you so much this video was very helpful, i am having a issue with my guitar playing clean and i cant get the amp effects sound ? I am using a audio interface Steinburg CI1 USB connection. i can record but im just getting the clean straight guitar sound. is there a setting for this?
If you go 1/4 to usb buy a rocksmith cable its like $30 but it has very VERY little latency and it doesn't scream white noise at you all the time like the cheap one the cheap sub $10 ones are crap I bought one and the rocksmith is literally millions of times better I have used this method literally forever its my fav way you can find the on amazon (no nobody paid me to type this either)
Hiya mate, I’ve just bought an iMac literally to muck about with GarageBand. I dabbled with a mates GarageBand years ago but things seem to have moved on somewhat. Back then it was literally a jack to minijack. I naively bought a guitar jack to usb with no success whatsoever and after a cursory search online, purchased an irig2. Needless to say, I can’t get that to work either?!? Finally I’ve found this video and notice you’re using the irig hd which is usb. Is that where I’m going wrong? I’m an absolute noob. If I read iOS or interface one more time I think I might have a stroke. Please help, I’m as sick as a chip
At the risk of pushing you over the edge mate, you can't use the iRig 2 with any Mac nowadays I'm afraid, as Apple removed the ability to record audio via the headphone jack on Mac models a while back. You'll need an interface with a USB connection.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to use Amplitube 5 in Garageband. Any advice?
Great vid.
Bravo et merci pour cette vidéo: très utile!
thank you for the great videos.
TheGarageBandGuide I have a mic that has a USB connection but since there’s no wire from amp to mic isn’t that going to lose a lot of quality?
Thanks very much for this video man, really helped. All the best.
Hi Patrick....Would I get better results putting my guitar through my own amp then from the amp into my Focusrite interface?
Lmao I was gonna suggest aliens and then you said it lol
😂👽
Using the iRig pro, can you hear your guitar through the amp you choose on garage band WHILE you’re playing? This may be a dumb question, I jus have no clue haha
Are you actually able to edit your track after recorded in garage band? Like adding effects?
Yeah, absolutely.
I'm a complete newbie to all of this - how do you record acoustic guitar?
Thank you so much this video was very helpful, i am having a issue with my guitar playing clean and i cant get the amp effects sound ? I am using a audio interface Steinburg CI1 USB connection.
i can record but im just getting the clean straight guitar sound. is there a setting for this?
i have the same problem idk how to fix it
I love how he liked your comment but didn't reply LMAO

If you go 1/4 to usb buy a rocksmith cable its like $30 but it has very VERY little latency and it doesn't scream white noise at you all the time like the cheap one the cheap sub $10 ones are crap I bought one and the rocksmith is literally millions of times better I have used this method literally forever its my fav way you can find the on amazon
(no nobody paid me to type this either)

Hiya mate,
I’ve just bought an iMac literally to muck about with GarageBand.
TheGarageBandGuide Thanks for the quick reply buddy, I really appreciate it.
Is the irig pro that you feature in this video still suitable?
Great vid! Does the focus rite have USB ports too for my USB mic?
Thanks for watching! No, you'd need to plug your USB mic into your Mac directly.
