This is a much, MUCH higher quality engine than the R5R. The r5r 4.0 is nice( I have one) but I Can’t believe this the same price. Thanks again for another review
Excellent review again Rex👌, and yes, pretty simular to the r5r 5.0..witch has the same head button, not the large one. Coolinghead is simular. As for the side needle carb, i've got no tunings problems what so ever with it. Nice to see a higher blowdown number on it. I figured out how to calculate the blowdown. Stroke : 180 x difference of the ports😁.. Gonna increase the blowdown to 47 on the r5r 5.0, or higher (48-49)depending on the space in the blok. Must do some measurements first. Want to ask you witch hardness of silicone filling you use for the crank? Is shore D80 hard enough? Thanks you in advance 👊
@@TheRwmods i think so too. Well, just gonna try some stuff and find out.😅 That's the only way learning. To bad there is no modifying company 's in the country. Would be easyer sending a engine out. So, you can feel sorry for me😂lol Keep up the good work 👍 really appreciate your reviews 👌.... 👊
Brother Mods hello 👋 One question... what's a good pull start big block engine for monster truck? I have a Team Associated MGT 8.0 and I'd love to change out this engine. Michael RC King
Do you know the needle settings out of the box. I really need to know. I'm trying g to break in my 521 but my wife turned the needles not understanding what they were
do you pay customs fees to get from Italy And I believe reds bought alot of novarossi equipment to build engines there glow plug is the same as nova and their bearing puller as well
Could someone please help explaining how to interpret the timming numbers that Rex always shows at the end of his reviews or pricide a link were I can find such info? How can one understand if an off road engine is good or powerfull enough for 8th scale nitro based in Rex's timming numbers?
I’m 2 moths late but the basic run down is that most cheaper engines will have more conservative (smaller) timing numbers. The higher the blowdown (degrees between the opening of the exhaust port and opening of the transfer ports) the more rpm’s the engine is capable of but you sacrifice torque (a good blowdown for 1/8th off road racing is around 43 but there are some engines that have fairly low blowdown numbers but still have good top end. The lower the blowdown the more torque you get but you sacrifice top end. The induction open and closing on the crank is measured from when the piston is at top dead center to when the opening on the crank opens and closes. The high end race engines usually have an induction open around 150 and closing around 60. The induction total for those engines are usually between 215 and 205. There are some engines though that have their numbers on the lower side and still run great and have plenty of power though. That’s the best I can explain it with the little knowledge I have
I have not looked at a Corsa. From what I know the Corsa would be a 7 port and have more top end. Local guys use the Corsa in a truggy so it still has plenty of bottom end.
Even better than we thought

@DavidRC pay pal Pay in 4 is calling my name…
nice engine this may be my next go to! See if you get the chance to do a review on the Picco P3TT sometime, i'd like to see it
looks to be one bad to the bone engine great review rex think this is going to be the next reds i definatly purchase to try out
My thoughts exactly nitro! Looks like a great track practice engine. Very nice lookn.
Nice review. Looks like a nice mill. Gotta have an alternative when the Alphas and Novas wear out.
It's improved but they also had 5 versions of the r5r so it was really due a full overhaul.
Great review rex !!.
That reds r5 sleave that u where showing in the video is actually from the reds r5 team addition
Miss ya, Rex!
I dig the Reds and this looks good I wish it was a pull start
Good video. Rip sir. God speed.
Recommend this engine over the Reds 721 Scuderia Gen 2?
Opinion?

I dont think the hardness of the silicone matters. As long as it holds up to the fuel and flows nicely.
Thanks 👍, and holds up to high temperatures. What can be the temperature of the crank? Is it as hot as the engine? Or maybe lless.....
@@kings-racing Probably less than head temp.

Ciao, per il Truggy quale consigli r5r 5.0, oppure il 521. Grazie

Is this the 521 GTS 5 port for on road racing? If so do you recommend it for a XRAY GTX8 2022?

I have not heard that Reds bought some equipment.
Thanks for the review .I'm looking for engine for my first buggy would u recommend this or flash point fpo2 .21.would like sumthin easy to tune
Flash point would be a good option. Or Any o.s base engine.
Cr21, fo01, .21 max xyb
Get a 3 port o.s and a nice pipe.
How did you find this engine was for tuning?!
Thanks!

Rex do you have the combo in stock at the moment or still getting it from Italy?
I have an extra engine or 2 on order but not a combo.
Where can I contact you if I need an engine rebuilt or a sleeve resized?

How will it compare to the 721 corsa?

@@TheRwmods am running the Corsa in my 8X, price difference is pretty substantial in Europe, 100 euros.
Can I use a o.s. plug in the 521 or do I need reds plugs
Yes
Is this a 3 needle carburetor?
No. It's not
Hey does REDS ship to South Africa
Our local track zwartkops has them in stock
