The real story is a lot more convoluted than that Dave. John Miller was the mercenary commanding officer on both attempts on Biggs recovery. The money came from a toff who sat in the H.O.L as a hereditary Lord, private banker and high street shopping magnate, think Marks and Sparks, but different. John was ex Scot Guards, NCO. He had an office in Soho as I recall and later Kensington or was it Chelsea?, can't really remember. Any how, he was well versed in ad hoc work and talked the Lord into funding the op, he was doing some protection, detective work for him on and off over the years. The Lord and his ilk were so offended that Biggs was on the front page of the Sun and Mirror that they coughed up twice. He was not nabbed on the beach, but his local bar as I recall. His first wife was out the picture and he married a local girl who they he had a son with, meaning he could not be extradited no matter what. They got him in the van and down to the dock, sailing motor boat to the Bahamas, by the time the team arrived (late as Biggs smashed the motor on route) the news, ITV, BBC so on and so forth were going nuts about the operation and the Foreign Office at the time went dark, as did the Lord and half of MI6 lol. As a result, Biggs was returned and John and his team spirited out the country asap. He did a lot of work in South America as I recall, did John. He led a rebel surge against some nasty buggers down there over farm land as I recall. He wrote a book, Former Soldier Seeks Employment, I think thats the title. Read it years ago. Good read. Any how, thats the truth of the matter. Great story.

@Danaidh Patrick I'll leave the pen and memoir side of the circuit to the boys at Hereford Pat, the Omani desert is ablaze at night with all the laptops of 22 Regiment boys penning their next memoir or action story lol. The private sector is named that for a reason in my view, because the clients pay for privacy. Cheers lad.
