But yeah the QL's are way to expensive, there is more Corair-tax on them than any Value whatsoever, not to mention that you also need to have some Corsair stuff to even be able to use them, as they dont come with a standard 3-pin ARGB Connector. the clear winner is Cooler Master here... or my Alpenföhn Wingboost 3 ARGB 140mm that i have in my case.^^
@@wolfwilkopter2231 yes but the corsair ones if you have a 5700 graphics card with the fans if you don't buy these fans, you can get a 5700 xt and the coolermaster is, indeed the best
It did look great with my GSkill Royal Ram, but the fan hub does not remember the motherboard control setting and you have to constantly turn it back on with the remote after every reboot. It was only a minor annoyance until it blew out all ARGB ports on my motherboard. These were quiet, beautiful and very promising, but destroying my motherboard ARGB ports is a bad QA issue.
As someone who bought into the Corsair ecosystem for my recent high end build, the price of those QL120's makes me sick. Also, I think other companies are just doing RGB better, like Phanteks with their neon RGB strip and Cooler Master and Asianhorse even for their RGB fans. If I don't go for a blackout build next time, I'm definitely not going to stick with Corsair. Appreciate your honest testing and conclusion. Hopefully this video will save lots of people from burning their money on way, way, waaayyy overpriced fans.
How is the rainbow effect on these Halos? I don't see they have shown in the video, I know the old master fans have great rainbow effect. Yet I have not seen the Halos in person, if they have good rainbows like the old ones, definitely a deal-breaker, they look so damn good from the picture.
Primarily because of this review I went and bought six of the MF120 Halos for my rig rebuild. I will say, they look great, but I did come across a hardware issue with their RGB implementations that I haven't seen anyone mention online yet that does kind of make them less enticing. The fans do have 24 LEDs, 8 in the fan blades and 16 in the outer ring. However, only 16 LEDs are actually addressable; changing the color of the first 8 LEDs will change the color in both the fan blades and half of the outer ring, when ideally it should only target the fan blades. This shows up in all of the fans that I received, which indicates this is by design instead of a one off hardware issue. If you're just using your motherboard RGB software to do a rainbow effect, a smooth gradient, or a static color, then this won't affect you. It's honestly hard to notice in those cases. However, if you're using software like JackNet RGB Sync or writing your own software to do advanced RGB lighting, you may be disappointed by this limitation.
We use one of these:amzn.to/3yvUY3L as our go-to lighting controller when making the RGB videos. It allows us to control all of the fans outside of a PC for testing purposes.
6 of those corsair fans = $30 short of the price of my 100hz, free sync 1440x3440 34" ultrawide. -_- Awesome video, I love how you guys actually tested the fans on the afm instead of just checking temps on a tower! Subbed and looking forward to more of your videos!!

Correct there are 2 styles real world. the radiator fans that are designed to push through radiators, and high airflow both have their uses. Especially if you doing a aircooled build.
This is the best RGB fan vid on youtube I've seen so far (and I've watched a lot). Thanks for keeping it direct, informative, and having a decent about of fans tested. Only criticisms: the graphs are too visually busy and a red backdrop with a red graph bar doesn't display info the best. Also, the music's too generic for how unique you guys are. 8/10 Pro RUclipsr vid. Thanks for the info homies and keep it up.
I appreciate this no nonsense approach to reviewing fans. I've seen quite in a few in the past where the reviewer simply provides the marketing info to compare fans, so I liked seeing the fact that you tested these fans. I understand you can't review everything, but I would've liked to have seen the following. 1. A little more emphasis on which fans require proprietary connectors/software. This is the biggest reason why I will never buy a Corsair fan, aside from the price. 2. Some discussion of aRGB controller hubs which come with some of these products. The RGB software (eg., CAM or iCUE) have been known to effect some gaming performance, so some people may be interested in using these controllers. 3. Some factoring in and discussion on quantity of life of each fan with respect to price. For example, there is a difference in cost between sleeve and hydraulic bearings and it relates to how long you can expect those fans to be as silent as when you first purchased them. 4. The manufacturing quality of pc fans can mean a variance in the speed of the fan. Thus, it would have been good to have seen at least two fans from each manufacturer tested. 5. I would also have appreciated seeing Phanteks aRGB fans in this line-up as well. But overall, this was great. thanks.
Respect for the amount of work you guys put into this. If I may offer some feedback. Whilst it is important to see how each fan compares at 100% what would be most useful is a more real world comparison such as how they perform when they are all running at 400, 600, 1000 RPM for example or when they are all noise normalised, which one pushes the most air or has the highest static pressure at a given speed/noise. I keep my fans as low as possible and they only ramp up when they absolutely have to. Thanks for the video.
We have since changed our approach to this as well. We've listened to our viewers and are always challenging ourselves to be better at testing and reviewing product! Constructive feedback like this is very much appreciated, thank you!

If the fans are 120mm you can easily replace them. No, the other fan you mention, I’m not quite sure what you mean that it’s "just a fan". If you’re talking about the fan on top of your CPU cooler then that one likely can’t be easily replaced by itself, you’d need to replace the entire heatsink fan. Best of luck!

The Corsair QL looks great from the back, but the price for 2 sets of 3 (3 side fans, 3 bottom fans to match) is over $250. also no mention of whether or not these fans are PWM? still an important feature in my book.
Thanks for the comment! We only showed the back of the fan if they had light rings, like the QL does. Also, during the fan descriptions we call out whether the fan was PWM or FLX. Only the Fractal was a 3-pin FLX.
Chose the UpHere fans for all the reasons you listed. Build looks great, and everything (R5 1600, GTX 1660) is running at stock in a Phanteks P360A, so airflow is not really a main concern.
Surprised the QL120's didn't get better coverage. Yes, they are quite a bit more expensive (around 50-60% more) but they have 34 individually addressable RGB LEDs per fan vs 24 on the Cooler Master. And the WL120 3-pack comes with the
Personally I use EZDIY fans that are pretty much copies of the cooler master Halos. On Amazon a 5 pack only costs about $55-60. The RGB looks pretty good for the price, it comes with all standard connectors, and it definitely is a noticeable noise, but it’s a pleasant noise and definitely doesn’t bother me. With a good fan curve it’s a suitable replacement for the CoolerMaster Halos, but feel free to support CoolerMaster as a more reputable company. I additionally wouldn’t recommend these fans on a CPU cooler since they have a noticeably lower airflow rating, in the low 30s iirc
@@2GuysTek Coolmaster replied to me - no 140s in the pipeline right now. They also seem to be sold out of all of their current 140s, the MF140r RGB. Might be disconnected? The one you reviewed, the MF120 Halo is on Amazon though, as a single or 3 pack.
You're absolutely right! It looks like they're no where to be found on Amazon now - I'm wondering if this is due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as they don't seem to have much of any of their fan offerings on the website.
Do you guys have any thoughts of the Asiahorse FS-9002? They're ARGB as well, and they have the extra ring like the LL120s, I haven't picked them up yet, but the reviews seem alright. I haven't seen any actual testing on them like this though.
@2guystek Here are the specs for the Kraken Z63 fans: Dimension: 140 x 140 x 26mm Speed: 500-1,800 + 300 RPM Air Flow: 2 7. 2 7 - 9 8 .1 7 C F M Air Pressure: 0.21 - 2.71mm-H₂O Noise: 21-38dBA Bearing: Fluid Dynamic Bearing Power Consumption: 12V DC, 0.38A, 4.56W Connector: 4-pin PWM Life: 60,000 hours / 6 Years Since I have the stock fans capped at 75% anyway, would it be terrible if I switched them out for two of the MF120 Halos?
Both would do well in your use cases. We felt the Masterfan was the winner overall, but if budget is your concern or you're looking for a one-of-a-kind bling the Asiahorse fans would do the trick too! Thanks for the comment!
Constructive Critique here guys: I really would like to see these fans put up against Noctua's NF-F12 . The standard is bad ass fans, are Noctua. You should always have a control when testing anything like this.
Thanks for the suggestion! We always appreciate good constructive feedback. It’s tough to choose the ‘best’ benchmark though, as it’s very subjective. You recommend the NF-F12 (good choice!), but I’m partial to the NF-12x25, and the next person thinks that a Gentle Typhoon is better. It makes it a moving target. That said, we should provide a well-known control just as a comparison.
If you have an RGB controller that is controllable with Razer Synapse and you've connected the Cooler Master fans to that controller then it's possible they are. The MF120s themselves only have a 3-pin DRGB connections that are meant to be connected to either your motherboard's digital RGB controller or another 5v DRGB controller within your system.
I was a fan of Corsair but 3 of my 6 LL120’s RGB randomly stopped working. The fan still works but the RGB is shut off. I rearranged them on my commander pro. Made sure it shows 6 fans are connected but only three work and even those blink or shut off momentarily. Pretty annoying since they are pricey. I hope iCue fixes this(assuming it’s a firmware/software issue)
I paid the "Corsair tax" as you mentioned in the video. I used Corsair ML fans because I chose to use H115i RGB platinum AIO during early build decision. Originally I bought only 1 pack ML140 because I already got 3 fans free from the case. However to my surprise, the corsair fans use proprietary 4 pin rgb connector that could not be connected directly to the 3 pin connector a-RBG of the motherboard. Because of this of I had to buy another 2 packs Corsair ML fans because the single pack didn't come with the lighting node pro. There you go 110 US$ wasted.
What we call the "Corsair Tax" is essentially the extra money you pay to buy Corsair products. We love the quality of Corsair products, don't get us wrong, but you pay for that quality. There are also plenty of other equally quality products on the market that are more affordable. For example, the CoolerMaster MF120 we compared in this video.
Okay, thank you for clearing that up. I plan on getting my own PC soon so I was looking at what are some good parts with RGB lighting. Thanks again guys.
Hello I have a question. Can I control both Cooler Master Halo ARGB fan and Sickleflow ARGB fan at the same time? Because I have already Sickleflow ARGB fan and I am going to buy Halo ARGB fan
Sorry to see the ThermalTake fans (quads also) and the budget offering that are scoring well in other reviews (Pccooler 120mm Fan Moonlight Series, PC-3M120 - Amazon) were not included in this. The 3D printed test rig, I like.
The Scythe Kaze Flex RGB are great fans, but they're not A-RGB. The Flex fans use a 12v connection to drive the RGB lights in the fan so the fan's coloring can only be one a single solid color at a time. We're sure eventually Scythe will come out with an A-RGB fan, and when they do we'll get it on the list! Thanks for the comment!
@@2GuysTek but there ARE Kaze Flex ARGB ones, for a few months now, they showed them at CES or Computex 2019, there are also Aya-Kaze Scythe fans in both RGB and ARGB which keep same good airflow and quietness but get INSANE static pressure, like outperforming Noctua on same rpm and noise levels, sadly Aya-Kaze are Japan-only so far, so you would need some viewer from Japan to hook you up with some www.scythe.co.jp/product/fan/aya-kaze12-add/

Sounds like you have a Gigabyte motherboard (their default color is orange). You need to install the RGBFusion software for that board to change it to what colors you'd like. Give that a shot.

Build looks great, and everything (R5 1600, GTX 1660) is running at stock in a Phanteks P360A, so airflow is not really a main concern.
UpHere has some good fans, good choice!
thanks, winners are the Corsair and the Cooler Master fans
Surprised the QL120's didn't get better coverage. Yes, they are quite a bit more expensive (around 50-60% more) but they have 34 individually addressable RGB LEDs per fan vs 24 on the Cooler Master. And the WL120 3-pack comes with the
Subbed, you guys are awesome
I dont know why but that CM fans is really attractive to me.
We really liked it too!
Just what i need! my current rgb fans are loud, it's getting annoying
I like the cooler master but I need 4 and 30 a pop is too much next I would get the Asiahorse but they are always out of stock
Any idea if the Coolmaster Halo will be released in 140?
Great question! We'll do some research and see what we can find!
Thermaltake Pure 12 ARGB ?
We’ll add them to the list for the next round! Thanks for the comment!
CORSAIR YEAHHHHHHH EVERYTHING CORSAIR , HAHAHAH money yeahhh lol
I can’t find Asiahorse sold anywhere. D: Those fans look so awesome for the price!
Believe it or not we have a box of them sitting on the shelf waiting to be tested! We plan on getting to them soon!
@2guystek Here are the specs for the Kraken Z63 fans:
Dimension: 140 x 140 x 26mm
Speed: 500-1,800 + 300 RPM
Air Flow: 2 7. 2 7 - 9 8 .1 7 C F M
Air Pressure: 0.21 - 2.71mm-H₂O
Noise: 21-38dBA
Bearing: Fluid Dynamic Bearing
Power Consumption: 12V DC, 0.38A, 4.56W
Connector: 4-pin PWM
Life: 60,000 hours / 6 Years
Since I have the stock fans capped at 75% anyway, would it be terrible if I switched them out for two of the MF120 Halos?
They should work fine for you. Go for it.
So for a new pc build should I go for the AsiaHorse or Cooler Master rgb fans? Help! haha I will be using a front 360mm AIO radiator + 2 top + 1 rear
Both would do well in your use cases. We felt the Masterfan was the winner overall, but if budget is your concern or you're looking for a one-of-a-kind bling the Asiahorse fans would do the trick too! Thanks for the comment!
Constructive Critique here guys:
I really would like to see these fans put up against Noctua's NF-F12 .
Those Asiahorse would go well with those Trident Z Royal edition ram
Awww yes they would!

are cooler master rgb products in general compatible with razer synapse? or is it just the wraith prism cooler?
If you have an RGB controller that is controllable with Razer Synapse and you've connected the Cooler Master fans to that controller then it's possible they are. The MF120s themselves only have a 3-pin DRGB connections that are meant to be connected to either your motherboard's digital RGB controller or another 5v DRGB controller within your system.
Please add cooler master mf 120r rgb or mf 120l in next list
Will do! Thanks for the suggestions!
What’s Corsair tax?
If they're both connected to the same ARGB controller, yes they can!
you test RGB Fans, but dont count the RGB Leds in them?
Sorry to see the ThermalTake fans (quads also) and the budget offering that are scoring well in other reviews (Pccooler 120mm Fan Moonlight Series, PC-3M120 - Amazon) were not included in this. The 3D printed test rig, I like.
What about Scythe Kaze Flex 120/140 RGB fans?
The Scythe Kaze Flex RGB are great fans, but they're not A-RGB. The Flex fans use a 12v connection to drive the RGB lights in the fan so the fan's coloring can only be one a single solid color at a time. We're sure eventually Scythe will come out with an A-RGB fan, and when they do we'll get it on the list! Thanks for the comment!
@@2GuysTek but there ARE Kaze Flex ARGB ones, for a few months now, they showed them at CES or Computex 2019, there are also Aya-Kaze Scythe fans in both RGB and ARGB which keep same good airflow and quietness but get INSANE static pressure, like outperforming Noctua on same rpm and noise levels, sadly Aya-Kaze are Japan-only so far, so you would need some viewer from Japan to hook you up with some
www.scythe.co.jp/product/fan/aya-kaze12-add/
Why use m/s where everywhere else you use cfm? I don't get inte tried to find som calculator to convert it put google failed me... please in the future, try to use cfm and/or static pressure
Tt quad? 54 leds and stuff. That is a killer fan.
We'll add it to the list! Thanks for the recommendation!
Wow. Scotty Kilmer hands at the end there.
hi and thanks for the review. can you please tell me if the fractal designs PWM's are good for a gaming pc ? meshify 2 white case, ryzen 7 3700x with asus rog strix x570-e gaming MB. thank you. i've tested the MF halo's but couldn't make it work with aura sync ... sad
They would be fine additions to that build. I'm more confused by you not being able to control them with your motherboard's A-RGB controller. What happened when you tried? Nothing?
I got the halos and none of the software works and everytime I see someone talk abt the problem they never have a good solution. So I got 6 halos and can’t change the rbg from orange
Sounds like you have a Gigabyte motherboard (their default color is orange). You need to install the RGBFusion software for that board to change it to what colors you'd like. Give that a shot.
Pls. guys make a review of the PCcooler Coronas and Halos, ID Cooling DF12025, and DeepCool DC CF120 RGB fans for head to head budget rgb fans 😊
Despite Corsair have the only rgb then how is it create rainbow effect?
I thought only argb can create it & only by this i can distinguish them without hands on or see the spec.
Please tell me now how can i distinguish them?
Ah neither RGB fan off has rosewill. Been wondering about them
So guys what do you think, cooler master halo (1,800 rpm) or Bequiet silent wings 2 (2,000 rpm) ?
If your case has a window and you can support the digital RGB go for the CoolerMaster MF120s, they’re beautiful fans and will cool great.
@@2GuysTek thanks guys
Mark a blade with a sharpie and get yourself a tachometer to get RPM results. Hope this works out for you guys.
This is a great idea!
wanted to buy the fractal ones because you said they were 22 bucks and Amazon sells one for 60 dollars now im going to go die because i need new fans and cant find good ones
That Corsair sticker wobble tho
I know right?! It bugged us too! $44/ea you think they could center dat sticker!
Salve, devo acquistare delle ventole RGB PWM, ho 2 domande in merito
1) Differenza Cooler Master MasterFan MF120R con quelle MF120 Halo (no R) del vostro test??
2) Decisione definitiva tra le
UpHere T7SYC7-6 (pacco da 6) a 54€ e oppure MF120 (pacco da 3) a 50€?????
Aiutatemi!!!
Ciao!
Buona fortuna!
Hi, congratulations for your videos I follow you from Sicily. Would you be kind to indicate me an ARGB 5V controller with remote control to connect fans and led strips with AURA SYNC AND MSI MYSTCSLIGHT connection. Thanks. And with your split videos
ID-Cooling XF-12025 RGB and ID-Cooling XF-12025 ARGB ?
Omg song names?? I love synth wave. Also, great video, thanks. I am trying to find powerful rgb fans for my case

went with the coolermaster halo fans over corsair as is stated, price to performace, and they look great, i just wish they were usable with iQUE without the need of adaptors and such, sigh. but still. CM halo fans are the best looking fans impo.
We agree!
I need fs-s001 pls help me 😭
