Moving the Turtles to Their New Ponds!

- In this video, I move the turtles from the old pond to the brand new ponds I dug for them. They didn't mind the trip and seemed to like their new ponds. At the end, I feed my pet alligator gar which I put in the ponds last week. Thanks for watching!!

I think that’s illegal to do. I remember seeing a video where a guy attached a go pro to a catfish and he almost got in trouble with the law
@@billythekid22220 I think a catfish is different than a turtle. He has done this before. It is a privately owned pond. He loves all his pets and no harm would ever happen to them.
@@micheleroberts908well yea they’re different animals haha but the go pro is basically a weight and something could happen potentially that’s why I think it’s against the law
I’m glad Melon was moved. I haven’t seen him in a while and I’m glad that we’ll be seeing more of him.

That hissing sound is the air/water being pushed out of their shells when they pull inside of them i think

All of the turtles I saw in this video are females ( you can tell because the bottom shell is flat, and none of them have the longer front claws that males have, plus males would be no larger than Mini Melon, male RES turtles are about 1/2 the size of same age females)... interesting! Also, you need to put some basking logs/boards out for them. They don't feel as safe if they bask on the shoreline.

All his turtles are female aside from Melon and Mini Melon. Males also tend develop some form of melanism as they age.

I love the name pancake for that flat turtle. I’m worried about raccoons because there is not much floating plants for resting wood for the turtles to rest upon. Might need to invest or just grab some lake plant floaters and some stone or wood, cause the turtles are very easy prey when they rest in the land shallows/sand out of the water.
Glad to see someone else mention this. He needs some logs/planks they can lay out on. Maybe a custom turtle platform thats anchored out a bit from the shore, and easy for them to get on.
I'm more excited about this than the last time I got a new car!

The old pond is a neighborhood retention pond where I had been feeding fish for over 10 years. Then, I bought a property and had the new ponds dug on it.

Can turtles recognise people? Are they like yay he’s back.
I'd say yes they can because I know that my turtles are comfortable around me and they're not scared of me and can be feed from the hand and sometimes I can even pet them a little bit. They're not so happy though around people that are not part of our family which I think is the evidence that they recognise people.

this guy hand-fed a duck what a legend
My younger brother had a wood duck bond to him after its egg was abandoned. Bro found it quickly enough to incubate it and, when it hatched he was there. Sweet little guy would come running when he heard my brother, if Bro would call for him, even when his truck would pull in the driveway. Eventually the duck grew up and mated and has since left my brother's pond. But it was so sweet how much that duck adored my brother.

You aren’t worried about those little guys out there with hardly (if really any) structures and big aquatic plants for shelter in the new ponds? Raccoons are super dangerous for turtles and the old pond has so many good places for them to hide. I’m just worried that can’t get to safety nearly as easy at the new ponds :/
My turtles were all this species, and I really missed that wee hiss they make when unhappy! This melted my heart.

Have you ever considered maybe getting a GoPro or some sort of small recording device to mount to your head and/or chest to utilize your two hands to make your job easier? I think it would be a good investment for your animals and for you 👍🙌❤ just a suggestion😁
Edit: I just watched some older videos and saw that he did use something of that sort, so now my question is why doesnt he do it when hes doing all these actions like moving fish, etc, wouldnt that would be easier with a GoPro or something?

All due respect, I think we're all a little concerned the fish and turtles need more shade, or hidey spots.

cool maybe put some of the water hyacinth from the old pond into the new one, they grow like crazy but turtles eat them and they keep the water cleaner, also maybe add a floating platform for those turtles

Idk if I'm remembering correctly but I think their pond is being built over which means most of them might die :/ moving them would also be tedious and difficult due to them being big fish that like a lot of space 2 move around
