Been going there since high school (graduated in 1962). Raised a family of five who loved this place. My grown daughter in Orange County, CA, who has three kids is excited to hear it has reopened.
I worked for the Rimarcik family for years at the Monte Carlo in the late 90’s. I have the utmost respect for them.

Back in the early 2000's I had the misfortune of meeting the now dead father. I worked for a wine distributor and there was a special request for one case of wine to be delivered to the Monte Carlo. In the industry, it's known that no deliveries are set up for Mondays which is when this order came in. Our company would do warehouse restocking on Monday's so employee chosen attire was an option. I was the lucky one to be making the delivery in my personal vehical on my way home. So I ring the bell, get let in by people that don't speak a lick of English and who seldom inform management of deliveries. I went down to the basement and waited at the usual spot for a signature. No one came after many minutes and I took the middle stairs which led me up near the bar. I was instantly met with severe aggresion as this owner publicy went from my head to toe shaming me on my dress. Remember that this is a Monday, I was wearing a baseball cap and a light flanel shirt. Apparently the fact that it wasnt tucked in and wearing a working cap, was reason enough to let half of the restaurant know of my offenses. In all of my years meeting all likes of people, I have never been disrespected, by anyone, especially by person of such "high charater".
I've been to Convention Grill many time when i lived in Linden Hills. I was excited to see its reopening by finding out who was at the helm of this, I cant bring myself to go. I hope management is nothing like it was.
