  • Command in this game had a really rocky relationship with me. For about the first hundred or so hours, I brought it in because I felt that I had to. Then, for about 200 hours, I stopped using them all together, using leaders sporadically to bring in more of some units. Now I can't breathe if I don't have command on all the units I can have it on, and it's been a huge help to my gameplay.
I hope to spare a lot of folks that learning curve and potentially help to instill a respect and love for these units as they really are the best way to get the most out of all of your other units. If you love the IS2, or maybe you're more into infantry fights; whatever you really love in this game, command will just make them that much better at carrying out your orders and beating back the enemy! Thanks for watching.
If there is any concept that you would like explained in particular, please let me know in the comments. There are so many aspects of this game that it really does lend itself to endless of hours perfecting your strategy. Happy hunting!

Another very good video about a very important topic which almost explains everything needed to understand the effects of leadership and veterancy transfer between leaders and commanders. As you stated under it that you have a bit of rough times with the command system i had the same ongoings with recon units and didn't use them for a little while until i got the mechanic behind it and how it works under different circumstances (recon by force, recon by fire, scout recon, and so on). Now i can't live without some proper recon and even recon planes have a special place since i saw their potential. So i totally feel you and the journey you were undergoing with it. :D
Only three small additions from my side with regards to the content:
    1) The german term for a leader unit is "Führer" (abbr. Füh.) and can be translated straight into Leader while "Befehls-..." or "Befehligender" (abbr. Bef.) can be directly translated into Commander or Commanding. The russian terms are a bit more complex and i needed some time for research before finding the regarding military ranks. Комроти (Komroti) is the short term for Командир роты and stands for Company Leader/Commander while Комбат (Kombat) is the short term for командир батальона and stands for Bataillon Leader/Commander.
    2) You're correctly pointed out that the command chain distance between leaders should not exceed 1000m and between leaders and the commander not exceed 1500m to get the veterancy transferance between the units. The radius around each of the leading and commanding units is also depending on the veterancy level of the unit itself. I looked them up in the ingame files and found out, that leaders and commanders have an influence radius of 240m with no veterancy, 320m with one veterancy level and 360m with two veterancy level. Since commanders always come with level two veterancy they always have an influence radius of 360m. Also the highest veterancy level can only be archieved by units which already have one veterancy level and then get boosted by a commander via the command chain network.
    3) Veterancy not only influences the values shown under the units ingame but also some not shown values. With rising veterancy for example, units gain +15%, +25% and +33% stress resilience, which makes them much more combat effective under enemy fire. An outvetted unit running over an open field therefore can overwhelm an enemy unit with no veterancy even when it sits still in a buliding getting the best cover. There are some more properties of different units like the spotting range of recon troops which are effected by higher veterancy levels but because i didn't find the regarding files so far i can't confirm these infos.
Nevertheless it's important to get the point how important veterancy is in SD2 and i think your video does a good job in this regard. Especially with the new income ratios for the deployment types which reduced the overall income about 20k to 30k points for a 60 minutes long match, veterancy will become even more important. Your second video about how to build an effective battlegroup shows this very good and points out how to improve the needed veterancy levels for different cards in the deck. But more about it under the named video. ;)
And one thing at the end: My respect about pointing out useful content from other RUclipsrs and naming them. That's a great gesture and will help people to get more information about certain topics of SD2. Keep up the good work. :)

Hell yeah. Good to know. So far I used leaders for obvious reason and in my imagination they are acting like a Lt. Winter from Band of Brothers. Call me childish ^^
But what I don't know was about commanders and this command-chains oO Don't even know commanders exists ingame. Must be miss them by some reason. Now it's 7am in the morning, i'am awake some minutes ago and got a lesson. Got start in a free weekend :D
    Thx!

I'm kinda late, but still, "KOMBAT" is short for "battalion commander".

Would be cool if infantry after killing more than 2 squads gained a max of one star veterancy if they have none.
Does up-vetting officers do any benefit?

Sorry for the late reply here! Upvetting officers increases their area of influence if memory serves. That said, it's almost never worth it. So long as you keep an eye on where your units are positioned, then you will be better served by more officers rather than better officers.

Anything below 20mm can't be considered a cannon.
