I had the pleasure of singing with Marion in a West End show called Lionel in the late 70s. I was just a kid but the memory stays with me. And what a beautiful person she was . So sad to hear she passed away a few years ago. That voice will live on.
Not just one of the greatest singer of jazz but a lovely warm personality too - greatly underrated during her lifetime in my view. I met her (and Laurie and Abbey) and they were all so welcoming. And Dudley - funny, talented, clever and all round super man. Great with Cleo Lane too. Thank you, RUclips, for providing such a wonderful service enabling us to continue to enjoy these fabulous moments.
Well said David - I totally agree with you. As someone now 63 yrs of age, I would love the TV shows at the weekend on UK TV in the 70s and 80s, as there was always a chance that Marion would be on and occasionally Dudley too but not often playing, which was a great shame, as he was such an accomplished jazz pianist.
It's flirtatious, it's sexy, it's fun, it oozes sensuality and it shows what having a great time is all about! Just what you'd expect when a world class jazz singer and a world class pianist get together.
Fabulous. Dudley's humour is already shining through and what a great jazz pianist too. Marian died from passive smoking just like Roy Castle it seems. Very sad. Both these artists deserved a lot more coverage on TV and radio.
I love this so much, and it shows how good TV could be... and makes us weep when you think how TV has become such utter, utter ........... (fill in according to taste).
Two superb musicians at the peak of their powers, but I have to say that Dudley's accompaniment is superb. It's an often overlooked skill when the lead musician is as talented as someone like Marion Montgomery
Did we appreciate what we had with Dudley Moore? I would have had difficulty just coping with the pressure of that beautiful woman at my shoulder. He delighted her. He delighted his studio audience and those watching from home. He played superb jazz piano - accompaniment and solo. He imitated a muted trumpet, in perfect pitch. He made funny faces. And he was beautiful and charming. What a lovely amazing man. And to take nothing away from that understated seductive sexy performance from Marion Montgomery. Sublime.
What a talent Dudley Moore was: pianist, composer, comedian, movie actor all in one. What a shame his love life didn't go well. His slow death at 66 was quite tragic.
I've always adored this!!! The way she's looking at him makes my heart melt haha. He fabulous and a brilliant pianist and funny and she has no idea what to expect from him lol. And her voice!!
I was only a child then, but watching Not Only...was pivotal. I fell for their magnetism, comedic genius...and oh for a touch of that sophistication now!
I've always loved her sound. She sounds frequently like she has listened to Anita O Day probably similarity in tonality. She was a beauty and mucho talent. And Dudley and the Trio were tasty and perfect for her. Thanks
Never saw this before...wonderful. I saw Marion live with Richard Rodney Bennett in Belfast years ago. What a night. Dudley's scat is extraordinary, especially considering he was accompanying too.
I haven't seen that number for years but I remembered, and fondly anticipated, the convincing look of surprise on Marion Montgomery's face when Dudley Moore starts his falsetto responses...
Wonderful. I had the great good fortune of seeing Marion perform at Ronnie Scott's twenty plus years ago. A lovely, intimate evening full of warmth and humour with a beautiful and incredibly talented woman.
Yes, we saw her at the Fleece Club in Suffolk several years ago. A wonderful evening, masses of talent, a memory to treasure. Regrettably I never saw Dud.
Thanks for introducing me to Marion Montgomery. I like a lot of female singers and she is yet another unique voice...smoky, warm, vibrato-free. I had forgotten how talented Dudley Moore was. I loved the duet w/ Marion M.
Just beautiful! This is the essence of jazz. What a pianist and the bass player is unbelievable ( ?Pete Morgan) . Should be a desert island jazz classic. Chris Karam is such a sensitive drummer as well - what a trio.❤️
It’s just beautiful. What talents we have been lucky enough to see and hear. So spontaneous, a live recording and could have been done time after time with a different but equally beautiful result. I’m not saying it can’t be done nowadays - but it can’t! RIP both.
As someone now 63 yrs of age, I would love the TV shows at the weekend on UK TV in the 70s and 80s, as there was always a chance that Marion would be on and occasionally Dudley too but not often playing, which was a great shame, as he was such an accomplished jazz pianist. What a lovely warm lady and fantastic singer Marion Montgomery was. Her voice and phrasing was a perfect match for jazz. And this recording!!!....what an absolute gem!! Thank you Laurie Holloway so much for posting this. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Warm regards from the Giant’s Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland. 😀👍☘️
Pure gold!!!....I first saw this when I was in my 20's and saw it again on BBC 4's Jazz Divas Gold and was transported straight back to my 20's and giggling along with Marion once more..........two of the best musical talents I've ever had the good fortune to hear.
He looks happy. So does she. And that song sounds like the piano and vocals are not easy at all to pull together. Never mind improvising. Thank you for posting.
so glad this has been reloaded. it was deleted. this performance of Marion and Dud has really inspired me to sing! Marion was a beautiful performer and I love her work. RIP lovely Marion
What a talented singer Marion was, and I have to say, what a babe! I used to enjoy her tv appearances, she always sang with great timing and intelligence. I remember a radio interview with her and Laurie in which she mentioned he'd often sit at the piano and just "doodle". She said she'd suggested that he record them as there were often things he could turn into songs, and he replied that he had a couple of times, and they were always the same! A lovely lady, I wish I'd seen her perform live.
The drummer is Chris Karan, an Australian of Greek background who was part of the Dudley Moore trio for many years. You'll see him on many clips on RUclips with Dudley.
unique, of its time and so special on so many levels. My parents would love this, I love this, if my kids love this I know I have succeeded as a parent.Katie Beth James!
I was thinking she had perfect pitch but then I went back to the beginning and heard his piano cue. Then he sings and plays the same notes together. Perfect.
The most impressive thing about Dudley's falsetto is that he's actually doubling every note he sings on the piano - and most of them are probably improvised. Not easy at all!
I had the pleasure of sharing a pair of moleskin trousers with Marian in a particularly impoverished period in our lives. Moleskins, baked beans and ovaltine. These were the days of our lives.
Lorraine Ashby Sob. its so sad that these elegant people had to go....why is it that effing nazi war criminals live to be 110......there really is no God.
This was brilliant - there was so much authetic real life energy and aliveness in performance and between people - that dudley moore - master pianist and can play jazz - who knew?
I put out albums by both artists in the 1978/9 and was a huge fan of Dudley Moore. The original albums he made for Decca as the DM trio are really worth getting hold of. 'Not 'Only But Also...' was brilliant too. Favourite sketches were Lengths and the Art Gallery.

Dudley Moore was a fabulous musician
Never tire of seeing this clip, his lovely smile would light up any room. RIP Marian and Dud you were a one off
This clip on it's own makes RUclips worthwhile.
One of the most enjoyable jazz vocal performances ever! Worth many many watches
Crikey - what beautiful chemistry between these two !
Reminds me of Toots Thielman with Elis Regina (‘wave’). Wonderful skills and artistry.

100% agree David. Very well put.
Yes!

Absolutely amazing. Dudley is a genius, and Marion is stunning, what a fantastic and funny performance.
….just adorable. Such a dear man.
What a breath of fresh air to see two talented people having a bit of fun, in these miserable times of doom and gloom.
You are so right
Totally agree...even more welcome in 2024!
Fabulous. Dudley's humour is already shining through and what a great jazz pianist too. Marian died from passive smoking just like Roy Castle it seems. Very sad. Both these artists deserved a lot more coverage on TV and radio.

😘 Thank you for saying what I feel. 😊
This video makes RUclips worthwhile on its own. Fantastic.

I keep coming back to this ❤… partly just to hear him say ‘yes please’
Dudley was a genius. He makes it looks easy which of course it was to him!
I miss Dudley Moore so much. Looking back on him makes me cry
She was an amazing singer. I used to listen to her when I was a child.
Beautiful. I really miss this era of entertainment--refined, elegant, very, very adult music.
intelligent music
I so agree.
I could not agree more .. long live Dud's contribution to the arts ... not forgetting of course M.M
@@harveyperkoff6325 I
WOW Marion's voice takes my breath away. Incredible.
Ditto!
Dudley Moore was a brilliant musician and wonderful couple with Marion
This type of vibe does not exist any more....
Wow, beautiful. His playing. Her voice.

Her voice is so velvety, beautiful and calming.
What a beautiful, funny and stylish moment in time from two massive talents
I absolutely enjoy this every time I see it. They're both gone now but see and hear what they left for us, a real treasure.
Most artist couldn't even stand is Mrs. Montgomery's shadow. Simply amazing!
(Mrs Holloway)
Boy did they have fun with that, wonderful!😂
Outstanding performance by everyone involved. What voice and what a trio.
I know of no-one who could mix music and comedy so intimately.
What a talent Dudley Moore was: pianist, composer, comedian, movie actor all in one. What a shame his love life didn't go well. His slow death at 66 was quite tragic.

Just listen to that sensual voice. Gorgeous.

This is the reason for the Internet.
Thank you for this gem.
This great performance blew me away. What a gem!

Watched this over and over. Terrific
Wonderful and so in sync with each other
I used to have this on VHS tape, lovely to see it again. Saved to my playlist.

11 years ago, but still maturing into a great vintage. Beautiful, just fabulous 👌

Love this 💕
Just oozing talent, happiness, fun and positivity! Love it!
I was lucky enough to see Marion three times. Once with RR Bennett, again with Barney Kessel and lastly with Laurie.
She was sensational every time.
He looks happy. So does she. And that song sounds like the piano and vocals are not easy at all to pull together. Never mind improvising. Thank you for posting.
Tracee: and his improvising and singing his improvisation at the same time. He had a great "ear".
Absolutely beautiful - nuff said.
God, forgot about Marion, beautiful voice
All so gifted..and what a voice ...world-class..and what a fun they had
so glad this has been reloaded. it was deleted. this performance of Marion and Dud has really inspired me to sing! Marion was a beautiful performer and I love her work. RIP lovely Marion
What a great find. I remember this from '66 and Dud's fabulous accompanying, both on piano and scatting to Marion's glorious vocals.

A level of brilliance, now but a memory...

What a delightful rendition Of a jolly song
Thanks for sharing this video - just beautiful! What a talented group of people - sounds as smooth as silk…
Two true talents. Miss them so!
She was a princess of this genre and Parkys favourite singer.....
unique, of its time and so special on so many levels. My parents would love this, I love this, if my kids love this I know I have succeeded as a parent.Katie Beth James!
Dudley is my favourite pianist ever. As a man with so much musical talent, he seemed incredibly modest.
You should enjoy this BBC piece on him from 1961, then ...

Wonderful!
I was thinking she had perfect pitch but then I went back to the beginning and heard his piano cue. Then he sings and plays the same notes together. Perfect.
Simultaneously smoky/sexy and hilarious!!? This just doesn't happen. Blown away.
Loved it ...xx
Superb!
Dudley Moore is a most talented musician and comedian.
The most impressive thing about Dudley's falsetto is that he's actually doubling every note he sings on the piano - and most of them are probably improvised. Not easy at all!
Look up his concert in the Hollywood Bowl. It's spectacular.
I had the pleasure of sharing a pair of moleskin trousers with Marian in a particularly impoverished period in our lives. Moleskins, baked beans and ovaltine. These were the days of our lives.
They are both such a loss she was such a lovely lady.
Superb, love this raw talent rip to them both ❤️
Sublime voice. What more can I say? Moore is not too shabby either!
The irreplaceable Dudley Moore with the lovely Marion Montgomery!
Lorraine Ashby

Most people knew
ALL of us who were around at the time! Dudley Moore was also a very fine actor and comedian. Multi talented!
@@robertmudrow8034 I didn't know about the jazz but you're right everyone knew he was an incredible pianist.
Impeccable. The most perfect moment.
What a brilliant pianist Dud is.

The late but so great Dudley Moore.
Stunning. Bobby McFerrin, eat your heart out!
Dudley had MAD piano 🎹 skills, you can tell he could sing just by his range
