In normal Minecraft, you can do a anything you want with the resources they give you, but at the end of the day, you know that you're going to be killing cows for leather to make an Enchanting Table, you know that you're going to be punching would the first thing you do, etc. In a totally randomized world, you could be eating wood for food, water could damage you, who knows, maybe the only way to enchant stuff is to throw it onto a "Lhagot" block. It's exactly like Jay says it is, experiencing the game as if it was your first time again.
That's what I though as well, and that's exactly why you need to limit the randomizer a little. Otherwise you end up, like no man's sky, with infinite, but way to similar or useless things
@@TOONYBOY most people would argue that the endgame is fighting the Ender Dragon though. I mean, getting to The End and all. But yeah, I can see your point. @@SSL_2004 That doesn't mean it's better off though. This is. Amazing. I love this idea. Definitely have this optional, as some may like the original generation and whatnot. But this is my favorite suggestion that I actually want in the game.
They need to take Auto-Jump out of "Controls" and put it in "Accessability" options or whatever with the rest of those features..... and they need to have it off by default.
Honestly, I wasn't entirely sold on this until you showed that spacious blue tree dimension --- that absolutely blew my mind and opened me up to the world of possibilities that something like this could create. I probably would still play straight up non-random vanilla from time to time, because I like Minecraft for its simplicity, but it's still a really neat concept. And lastly, the auto-jump feature should *NOT* be removed from Minecraft, and here's why --- some people, such as myself, have physical conditions that make it harder for us to reach around the keyboard to play games (for example, in my game, walking forward is accomplished with the middle mouse button, and the inventory can be accessed with "V"). I can't reach around to walk *AND* jump at the same time, so the auto-jump feature is extraordinarily helpful for people like myself. It would be totally fine to have this feature disabled by default, but the functionality should remain there for those of us who could make use of that sort of flexibility. And while I'm on the topic, *ALL* games should allow controls to be remapped via the options menu, for the very same reason mentioned above. I know that most games allow this now, but same games don't, and it's a real turn-off to have to dig around on the internet for third-party software to allow button mapping in a game which would otherwise not allow for that.
I think he means disabled by default because turning it off every time you change to older versions can get annoying. I do agree however, having it as a feature is great.
yeah he definitely meant turning it off by default. I'm constantly switching from 1.8 to 1.14 and its annoying to start a world and have to turn off autojump and the tutorial and all the other noob stuff
You should check out MystCraft, its a mod for creating new procedurally generated dimensions. It's really cool. ruclips.net/video/uFZGPt7DBlQ/видео.html
What do you have that you can't press walk and jump at the same time? What button is jump that you can't do it while using the mouse to walk? This isn't making any sense to me. Why is your Minecraft not the WASD set up? In literally every computer game I play with walkinh, WASD does it and Space is jump. And that only seems like a problem to someone with very small hands to me. I'm just really confused on how you're having this "same time" issue. Especially since you say your walking method is with the mouse and not the hand that you'd use to jump.
I feel that this seems exciting in the context of minecraft but the idea of "infinite generation based off of combining many traits" is one that runs into the issue of distinction without purpose. A lot of the things suggested are "unique" when compared to default minecraft but when relying on randomness to generate compelling gameplay, your much more likely to view things as samey depending on the size of the set of parameters. To truly increase variety of gameplay the properties themselves that change need to be novel, and often. The change of color/texture/material strength/cookable/etc are all parameters that exist and are understood within the game system and so will only rarely combine to create actual new experiences, at least after the initial introduction into the randomness-Schema. This is an issue that No Mans Sky had but it was punctuated more heavily as there was no strong gameplay to fall back on outside of exploring the random property-combining planets. I would posit unless your gameplay loop really speaks to this combination or you have a very strong set of properties that are purpose built to create novel interaction through combination (see: items combining their effects on tears in binding of Isaac), you could often achieve a greater amount novel enjoyment by spending the time you would spend adding/tweaking the generation on the addition of entirely new systems. (I.e. I don't care that if I use a blaze rod as a handle on my tool I get jump boost, it lights mobs on fire, and i can use it to light portals, but a potion making system on the other hand *does* add a whole new dimension of gameplay. Thanks for reading anyone who did, I might make a video on my thoughts, this maybe incoherent, since I'm on my phone and it's late at night. Cheers.
I get what you mean but a randomizer with a large enough amount of options could make people find items that interact in ways people didn't expect also this would force people to experiment with items as they can't just look it up on a wiki
@@Shiny_Infinity The issue is the amount of options doesn't really matter if an NPC in a game has 50 million options for different characteristics in their visual nature but they all interact with the same 10 dialog choices they are going to feel 'samey' either way. The way that novelty is experienced isn't a function of just "I haven't encountered this exact combination of characteristics before" but rather, "does this **feel** any different, does this change my goals/the way I interact with the game" in a meaningful way.
You aren't wrong, but roguelikes don't have procedurally generated items that are unique to a run, they do have a really big selection of items, like REALLY big but not infinitely big.
@Xevix 291 no, i ment estate. state is a us state, state of matter, or not what estate is. estate is like an area that you purchase (in this case get for free) that is normally a building
Yeah, I could absolutely understand people preferring the cohesion and familiarity of vanilla Minecraft, infinite possibilities isn't exactly everyone's cup of tea. But as a separate gamemode?? Oh my gosh, it'd be AMAZING
@@Danger-Tater eh it could be a mix of both like i dunno you choose the game mode and there you have cuztomization options like he said but with bigger detail
This is a very special idea. Technically if you had the resources, this could also be extended to new structures, new villager types, new bosses, new crops, new weather, new spawners, new potions, new enchantments, new crafting blocks(such as new furnaces, new crafting tables, new enchant tables, new brewing stands, new anvils). This could also be used to fundamental change the Minecraft crafting system to be completely different per Minecraft world, leading to the idea that each world is 100% alien to normal Minecraft. Also you could randomize textures even further by making some animated, or patterned(spotted, striped, swirled, checkered, etc), or you could even randomize textures completely(with some serious parameters to make sure it somewhat fits with the game). I hope a mod team picks this up, this is exceptional.
Also, we could also randomise behavior of each mob, what item they spawn "on-hand", what organization/faction/nation and ideology e.g. "Facist Villagers" that would "shun the noseless freak!!", Become xenophobic and hostile towards the mobs and player. Or "Tribal Ogres" with a different habitat (i.e. caves on a mountain or a camp) and they would have to invade towns or villages.
I've found that in games with a randomized experience it usually doesn't take me that long to recognize the parameters and the uniqueness goes away. When everything is random, nothing ever stands out. Want to encounter a well-designed mob or village? It's random! Instead of randomization, a more dynamic world would be better. One that adapts to what the player does to it.
I strongly agree here. I don't think this idea would fit very well into Minecraft, and should stay as a mod. Once you see the possible options, it doesn't really surprise you anymore when you encounter some new wacky combination of the same thing.
It should be in like the options like you know how you have flat and super flat and stuff It should be with them It would be Infinite Or random or something
That would be a good thing because new players wouldn't get confused by something that doesn't exist in the wiki, but a big button on a home screen or world creation screen that says "random mode" might be tempting to press without knowing what it does. My suggestion is to add it in the world type selection in more world options. While we're at it, I think it would be a good idea to add a world sub seed, which is a seed used to determine the randomizer for ores etc. This way, you can play with good sub seeds other players have found, a sub seed all your friends play on as a challenge, or leave it blank for a random sub seed. This sub seed will show when you type "/seed" if you play with random ores.
@@yahyakhawaja5559 Tangentially now I'm imagining superflat but the layers are random or semirandom (with vanilla materials). It wouldn't give you too much of an experience per world but each one sure would be... interesting, for the first little bit. You'd probably want semirandom to avoid Obsidian spawning with no Diamond above it, or things like that, and probably guarantee a layer of Bedrock at the bottom (or have an option to guarantee it). Other than Obsidian I think every block can *eventually* be mined through even with bare fists. You could actually make this with just a spreadsheet and then have people input it into the superflat generator manually, only trouble is if someone recognized the block IDs and spoiled themselves for what was there.
At first I was skeptical. Then I watched the video. Then I hit the like button. Seriously Jay, I don't know how much time went into this, but it's awesome.
@@icarvs_vivit And if the generator generates all ores that require diamond-level tools to mine and you would be playing with only randomly generated ores? Those are the kind of balances I was referring to, dont want any softlocks :)
I think this is a really good idea that would work really well as a mod (or an April 1st 2020 snapshot), and I'd definitely play it and have lots of fun with it, but I don't think it would really fit well as an actual update to vanilla minecraft
this is actually pretty awesome, it isnt gonna replace minecraft but microsoft wouldn't have to do much of anything to implement it as a world loading feature Edit: GOD DAMN BRO you started getting into the idea of infinite dimensions and i was skeptical but it loaded into that dope ass layered blue dimension and i literally stood up from my chair and had to go get water so i could chill out.
I played a couple modded dimensions (like Aether and Eternal Frost) and over time they become boring. It's just Overworld re-skinned and a bunch of extra items based on existing items. I expect from this idea the same. Existing biomes, mobs and items slightly randomized to throw you off. You'd be back in the good old Nether/End/Overworld in no time. New ideas have to be new. New weapon, new enchantment, new biome, new mob, new item, new block, new recipe. Think how many people still play 1.8 and multiply it by infinite randomization.
Why couldn't Mojang think of this? This idea would literally make Minecraft infinitely repayable! It would also be exciting to figure out what new ores do.
@@cayonVAL nah, that's not it. They just know modders gonna do it, so why should they bother. If it will be very successful or popular they can always steal.. uh I mean implement the part of the mod into the vanilla game.
It's not a revolution in minecraft, there are literally mods out there like this that generate random ores and dimensions, there's Mystcraft and RfTools DIms for dimensions, randores for the ores, Infernal mobs adds that random flavor to your mobs that you might want. The community has done this before it's not a revolution and it's not very practical as you can't literally create "Infinite possibilities" because there isn't enough computation power to complete this, even if you ran it through every quantum computer in the world.
no it would ruin the point and feel of the game, i would only do it for caves or biomes but only with vanilla features and items like mountainous deserts with acacia trees or half-submerged forests or super dense swamps things like that are cool but 10^40000 ores would remove the purpose of playing tha game because what are you working to find, Buazurite? nah, that doesn't sound fun but super beautiful caves and biomes would be nice just not with outlandish colors and names and properties keep the items vanilla but the visuals interesting
I've always wanted to make a game some day with exactly this sort of mechanic. The problem though is that game designers can find this stuff scary as they may struggle to balance it, so they tend to iron out anything that can make the game feel a bit broken, so the end result is that once they're done with it you once again end up with randomised things that after a while feel like they're pulled from the same hat you get a bit bored of.
Except those who spent the first night running... *cough* I mean walking because you realised that the night was dangerous too late, and sometimes sneaking because you expected that to help.
This actually insane! I subbed like 3 weeks ago after watching you rip apart people's crappy reviews and now you just drop this on us! And YOU MADE ALL THIS! What are you man!?
This is probably the coolest feature proposal I've ever heard, and probably the most thorough as well. Until we get this to Mojang, somebody better make this a mod.
From what I can guess, Jay generated the ores and items externally in the spreadsheet, and then implemented them via Command Blocks, Modding, and/or Texture Packs mixed with very good video editing. I doubt there's any way to convert what you get from the spreadsheet into Minecraft automatically. Not yet anyway.

Because you can do most things with a well-designed process, it gives Minecraft a wholesome feel to accomplish... whatever you do.
No Man's Sky though, reaching the core just sends you back to the beginning. Sure, there's the lore being explored, but there isn't a worthwhile fight, a well-thought progress to it, and a well-deserved reward.
@@SSL_2004 That doesn't mean it's better off though. I mean, if there's no consistency or rules then there is no learning the game, therefore you cannot use tricks and strategies to guarantee your survival, and it would be a random chance you would get features that actively make the game less fun and annoying. Imagine if water killed you when you touched it, there would be no way for you to know that and you would permanently lose all of your items to the depths (It would make Hardcore mode near impossible to complete, as your survival would be random chance). Imagine if your rule to not die from water was to never swim in it, yes it's new, that doesn't mean it's good.

Yeah I found one just as useless. "Oos". It gives regeneration, is much rarer than diamond, durability of gold, it summons fireballs using 20% of the durability but you need 2 chorus fruit, and the only thing it can do is be crafted into a light source or traded with villagers.

It's really cool.
ruclips.net/video/uFZGPt7DBlQ/видео.html
auto jump shouldnt be auto on
What do you have that you can't press walk and jump at the same time?
That's why I think adding it as a separate mode would be a good idea. A toggleable option when Generating a world.
I think it could be neat if everything was an equal chance of being procgenned or being something from normal minecraft.
@@Shiny_Infinity Granted, if crafting recipes were also random then they probably be in the Crafting Book quick menu.
@@Shiny_Infinity The issue is the amount of options doesn't really matter if an NPC in a game has 50 million options for different characteristics in their visual nature but they all interact with the same 10 dialog choices they are going to feel 'samey' either way. The way that novelty is experienced isn't a function of just "I haven't encountered this exact combination of characteristics before" but rather, "does this **feel** any different, does this change my goals/the way I interact with the game" in a meaningful way.

wait it was randomly generated?
Also, we could also randomise behavior of each mob, what item they spawn "on-hand", what organization/faction/nation and ideology

Or random or something

@@randomperson4989 then don't play at 100%.
I think this is a really good idea that would work really well as a mod (or an April 1st 2020 snapshot), and I'd definitely play it and have lots of fun with it, but I don't think it would really fit well as an actual update to vanilla minecraft
this is actually pretty awesome, it isnt gonna replace minecraft but microsoft wouldn't have to do much of anything to implement it as a world loading feature
Edit: GOD DAMN BRO you started getting into the idea of infinite dimensions and i was skeptical but it loaded into that dope ass layered blue dimension and i literally stood up from my chair and had to go get water so i could chill out.
How do u get it to work on pc lol, im not great with this sorta thing
I played a couple modded dimensions (like Aether and Eternal Frost) and over time they become boring. It's just Overworld re-skinned and a bunch of extra items based on existing items. I expect from this idea the same. Existing biomes, mobs and items slightly randomized to throw you off. You'd be back in the good old Nether/End/Overworld in no time. New ideas have to be new. New weapon, new enchantment, new biome, new mob, new item, new block, new recipe. Think how many people still play 1.8 and multiply it by infinite randomization.

i highly doubt that
Especially with B L O R F S T O N E existing.
And now they made a f*cking April Fools joke out of it.
Why couldn't Mojang think of this? This idea would literally make Minecraft infinitely repayable! It would also be exciting to figure out what new ores do.
They have thought of it they just don’t want to do it
It would overly complicate the game for new players. Plus Minecraft is known for its simplicity.
@@cayonVAL Key word: optional
they just need to some new version like "java java edition" on and on and do it
@@cayonVAL nah, that's not it. They just know modders gonna do it, so why should they bother. If it will be very successful or popular they can always steal.. uh I mean implement the part of the mod into the vanilla game.
this is a revolution in minecraft... this needs to be official, or some sort of mod. It would become famous.
@@Toximisity Dont forget my boy Crazy craft
@@Toximisity we know infinite is not possible, but a lot of possibilities are cool.
@@Toximisity me smart. me throw in big words. me not know if word make sense.
no it would ruin the point and feel of the game, i would only do it for caves or biomes but only with vanilla features and items like mountainous deserts with acacia trees or half-submerged forests or super dense swamps things like that are cool but 10^40000 ores would remove the purpose of playing tha game because what are you working to find, Buazurite? nah, that doesn't sound fun but super beautiful caves and biomes would be nice just not with outlandish colors and names and properties keep the items vanilla but the visuals interesting

@@Fishysalmon02 a comment i saw
I've always wanted to make a game some day with exactly this sort of mechanic. The problem though is that game designers can find this stuff scary as they may struggle to balance it, so they tend to iron out anything that can make the game feel a bit broken, so the end result is that once they're done with it you once again end up with randomised things that after a while feel like they're pulled from the same hat you get a bit bored of.
