The fact that liszt wrote this in memory of chopin after he died is very touching. Its meant to sound like something chopin would write. And is based on chopins op. 27 no.2
I think a lot of you guys like to overstate Chopin's impact on Liszt. Sure at times they were friends, but for the most part they were in seperate spheres. Despite popular belief Liszt wrote MANY soft and playable pieces, but the one's where it seems like he's throwing notes at the piano get more attention.
There’s no doubt that this piece is easier than Liszt’s other works, however I think people tend to forget how difficult it is to convey the emotion and the message that he is trying to carry through this piece. Not to mention, but the rhythm can get pretty tricky throughout this piece. The left hand consists of unwritten triplets (I, too fell victim to defining them as eight notes) and the right hand mainly consists of eight notes and sixteen notes. As hard as it is to believe, you’ll be surprised on how difficult it is to synchronize the left and right hands accurately with the correct rhythm. Now of course if you are playing at a more advanced level it would be a piece of cake, but this was just my personal experience through this piece. I’ve learned this throughout quarantine and I have to admit that this is by far my favorite piece from Liszt (aside from liebestraum). Not because it’s “playable” and easy, but because of how well it contrasts with his other pieces, which are primarily fast with lots of runs.
This is why I love piano and the romantic era. The composers created the pieces putting in so much raw emotion and thought, it's beautiful! I enjoy learning piano despite how hard it is just so I can feel the music accompany me. Thank you stranger and I hope you have a great day!

I don’t know anything about classic music but I enjoy these. My question is: Is Liszt underrated? Because imo he got the most beautiful pieces but Mozart and Beethoven are getting way more attention
No. People literally see Liszt as one of the best pianists ever existed There are actual underrated composers and significant composers that get ignored by the mainstream like Berg, Ives, Xenakis, Messiaen etc.
@@pocket712 That's literally why he is underrated. Most people see him as "the greatest pianist of all time" and dismiss his compositons as mere showmanship. As for Xenakis, Berg, etc... you can't blame people for not liking and listening to a genre that sounds like noise to them. (Not that their music is noise, but the western ear is accustomed to tonality or modality, and all those atonal composers have 0 chance of being listened by any kind of large mainstream audience. Only musicians who are interested in atonal music or musicologists will give a damn).
I totally get it! He deserves the same amount of fame as those too. Unfortunately only people with a music background know his name (even tho everyone knows the songs from Tom Jeryy haha)

Rousseau, this is hands down my favorite of Liszt's Consolations and in fact, one of his best pieces ever...one I have not played in a very long time :-) Speaking to your point in the "pinned" comment about sentiment over virtuosity, I understand that well. The complexity and beauty lies within the unexpected chord progressions and otherworldly melody and harmonies. Simplicity allows this wonderful musical message to shine. You play this with all of the patience and pathos that it deserves....beautifully phrased! You really allow it to breathe and your touch is unmistakable! Thanks for the info that this is a tribute to his friend, the amazing Chopin! BRAVO!!! ~Jackie
This is one of my favorite liszt pieces... very simple compared to his other works but still so beautiful
This is easier ,than rest of his pieces, but polyrhythms still can make it harder, than many people think
My grand father got coronavirus and cancer. This video make me good.
Thanks you very much for that song 🥺
I remember first learning this piece and thinking that the polyrhythms were so difficult. It sounds so simple but the mechanics behind it are crazy.
REALLL ME TOO
Not only are you a great pianist, but also aware of the music you play. I love your music and the background information you often provide with the pieces. They give allot more meaning to it and i think that is just great
Hearing this piece makes me greatful that I'm living
This melody right here; 1:13 - 1:20, it reminds me of the 2014 movie Annie.
as amazing and complex as listz is, i totally respect a slower a more beautiful piece like this, thank you
I have always acknowledged liszt's works to be fast and exciting pieces..so this calm piece shocked me
This song is so romantic and beautiful, so nice to see this kind of work from Liszt
I love this piece. Sometimes it can make me cry.
This is the very first time I've listened to this. It is the most beautiful sound i have ever heard. I think I've just fallen in love with Liszt.💞💔
Dear Rousseau, Can you possible imagine how happy you make us all with your wonderful channel? Thank you for your generosity!!
This song is very beautiful and full of feelings
It's haunting, and sad. It's Hauntingly Melancholic... but above all else it is Beautiful.
Makes you wonder what did he go through to be able to create something like this...
Rousseau After several songs I hear you again and I realize that artistic evolution sensitivity and interpretation I loved, congratulations!
It’s lovely to see another side of Liszt’s music, what a versatile composer. Really love Liszt’s music, Rousseau conveyed this piece with a a lot of depth. Love it🙌🏼
Perfect music for a morning coffee

Just love it. I can feel all the emotions. Just beautiful. I can sit on a chair and like everything is peaceful
At 2M, Rousseau trolls us and...

This GEM, is one of the few consolations in my life!!!!! A short bit of pleasant sound waves in my ears and to my brain!! I’m sure a few of u readers UNDERSTAND!!!!
Cheers to all good people
I don’t know anything about classic music but I enjoy these. My question is: Is Liszt underrated? Because imo he got the most beautiful pieces but Mozart and Beethoven are getting way more attention
No. People literally see Liszt as one of the best pianists ever existed
There are actual underrated composers and significant composers that get ignored by the mainstream like Berg, Ives, Xenakis, Messiaen etc.
I think his romantic pieces are underrated, to me they're at Chopin's pieces level
@@paulestebancarreramolinell7538 this actually reminds me of Chopin’s nocturne 72
I totally get it! He deserves the same amount of fame as those too. Unfortunately only people with a music background know his name (even tho everyone knows the songs from Tom Jeryy haha)
Best sad piano piece of all time
I really don't understand why people dislike this video like holy hell this is beautiful.
So elegantly and beautifully played! Thank you Rousseau.
