22:42 I never managed to save that FX settings... Tryed for days but no success!!! Am I stupid or what? The talkover and other settings work but the beat FX not.
3:19 Hi Phil, just wanted to remind everyone that this method of selecting channels using a dedicated LED back lit button was first introduced on the Pioneer DJM2000 back in 2010. It's great to now see this on the A9. It's just a shame that FX are still selected with the same prehistoric non black lit encoder that Pioneer first introduced on the DJM-400 back in 2006. A bank of 14 back lit buttons for selecting the desired FX with a single press is way more tactile and a million times more visible than peering at small white text printed on a black face plate, especially in a dark DJ booth.
The naming makes sense now. S-series, V-series, A-series. The update is decent enough, but it got even bigger and more expensive. That's why I stick with Denon. Good video, Phil! Always a pleasure hearing your relaxing voice :-)
I love watching Pioneer struggling to keep up with Denon ever since there sale out of Pioneer hands, I still wish they would have forced the name change to AlphaTheta as well but I'm guessing it will be juggled around to keep the name as long a possible.
I love what Pioneer is building. I was close to replace the 900 with a V10 because of filter knob over pulling, but at the end it wasn't worth for me. Great that pioneer fixed this. So the 900 will be exchanged with the A9 then. :)
@18:02 I disagree with needing a switch on board to link other decks. It just adds more to the cost and more reason why would need to repair the mixer for bad connectors or failed switch.
I was waiting for the V10 to come back in stock to upgrade, but I think I am going with this. It will most likely be the industry standard for the next 5 years or so, unless we get hit with a surprise. Looking forward to seeing what I (and other DJs as well) can do when we unleash this beast! I swear, Pioneer always has a little magic up their sleeve.......
The V10 is on another level compared to this. The A9 is a just a slightly better 900 nxs 2. I would suggest using both before you decide. The V10 is amazing.
@@davidmeredith471 My thinking was: V10 is not in many clubs/ events. This A9 will likely be in most of the clubs for the next 5 - 10 years. You would recommend still going V10?

The other way round is more difficult 😂 I have seen some gigs where the international artist insited on V10 and they had a 900 too for the other artists, because nobody wanted to play on the V10 (because they never played on it). Why would you have an ipad app for a mixer? My first thought, so you can take a piss in the middle of your set! :D Lifesaver. But you are right, there is a "who is in control?" issue here with the lack of ability to turn it off from the unit. But this also might be deliberate - sound engineer / venue MGMT can take the sound out of the red if the DJ is being a pillock with the levels (very common!) Anyway top top review, super useful! The features are similar enough that you pretty much covered the entire learning curve; I now feel like I know this mixer without even having used it! The biggest question for me is whether there is a significant jump in sound quality from the NXS2. I wish I could spend a few hours A/Bing and run through a bunch of tracks that I know really well. Bluetooth pairing is ace. I really like the 2x headphones. Super for back to back sessions too and amazing for coaching, I've used headphone splitters in the past but this is a big step up. Biggest negative is the bigger footprint honestly, which means new flight case also required.
This has some nice upgrades. Bluetooth is smart to put in a high end mixer. The price is a little high but the intended buyers of this will not flinch.
changing the FX select from a dial switch to buttons is a good move. surprised they didn't put duck down effect on it. such a great and popular effect.
Thats what always pissed me off about the 1000srt. The effects select knob sucks. You really have to be looking and switching every time you need to activate effect. They should get rid of that system entirely. But the buttons is easier.
I am waiting djm450 upgrade similar to this A9, something like A4 with frequency selectors over fx, more effects options, some flexibility over internal menu settings and finally at least GOOD phono inputs (i am not hoping for perfect)
Still can’t use effects on more than one channel at a time. XoneDB4 was able to do that 10 years ago, and it also had looping built in. That’s something I’m surprised they haven’t done yet. Also a compressor on the main output would have been nice and maybe a main eq, even if it’s digital.
Is it possible to access those customizable beat fx settings on RB 7 and than export to USB and than would it load and be read once you plug in your USB?
By the look, feel and sound of it, seems like a very exciting and fun mxer to get into with a couple of friends, just firing through all channels, through really advanced sound systems.
Hello Phil, may I ask if you happened to try the CDJ 3000 touch preview feature with this DJM A9? By looking at it, seems like it doesn’t have that link cue like DJM-900NX2. Really appreciate your review! ❤️
Does this mean that you could have WiFi on your cdj via the mixer? (With link) Otherwise I hope they add streaming services, because it makes finding new songs easier.
Bluetooth is super handy for corporate and wedding gigs, when the client wants to show a laptop slideshow during the night. You can keep their laptop near the projector and pipe their audio without running a long cable.
Instead of the bluetooth section, you could record the mix on a stick like on the xz. The color, informative screen is good, but I don't like the new x pad. nxs2 was better. It is very good that they added a separate channel selection on send return.
will this mixer finally quantize beat FX with Serato instead of relying on auto detect or tapping? @ORCA ONE what the Hell are you talking about?!? Where in my comment did I mention where the 900NXS2 started at pricewise? I stated what it costs NOW (and to stress that point, I myself have a 900NXS2 which I purchased 3 years ago at $2100). The price NOW is $2400 & the A9 is $2600 (US). I could ask if YOU are on rocks, but it's more relevant to ask if you read to react/respond or to understand? Having read your response, I already know the answer.
They really truly needed to update the way pro dj link connects together by now. Having some crappy lan hub with loads of cables just isn't good enough in this day and age. Bluetooth? Wifi? Little node connectors? One lan input isn't good enough.
What a marketing stunt this is... "The new clubstandard mixer"??? Why, because Pioneer tell us? I hope Denon will make a move to convince everybody that Pioneer is way too overpriced!
Denon's already selling their top mixer for $1200, pioneer wants more than double that and they are honeslty stealing a bunch of their new idea off Denon at this point. I don't see Pioneer being the standard in 2 years, not as long as they have a new owner each year.
They currently are, it's hard to overtake a brand that venues and club DJs have been using for decades. Though Denon DJ does have the lead with innovation
they are only the club standard due to the sheep keep following without investigating. people say they are not paid to promote pioneer, but i have serious doubts in that being true. all i hear is club standard promoting them, but how many of us are dj'ing in the clubs, seriously?
I do like the denon x1850 mixer I have one with 2 sc6000’s and cdj 3000’s but the channel faders are not great on the denon mixer I am now out of warranty and my channel 3 is playing up. I only ever use it at home and I am not rough with it I am contemplating upgrading to the a9 but it’s double the price of the denon
@@digitaldjtips Yes, my apologies. I should have been more specific. I didn’t mean you guys. I meant the Alpha Theta Pioneer Marketing who have manipulated the Australian market just to keep Amazon happy. The end result is obscene prices.
Meanwhile, it is almost March and we still have no Rane Four release date or price smh... it's time for Rane to fire somebody... Pioneer will have their Rane Four response before the Rane Four even comes out.
2800€ for this mixer. I can't take this company serious anymore. Absolutely ridiculous. I hope they lose their place as club standart one day and give it to denon.

They really truly needed to update the way pro dj link connects together by now. Having some crappy lan hub with loads of cables just isn't good enough in this day and age. Bluetooth? Wifi? Little node connectors? One lan input isn't good enough.
Thanks for weighing in :)
Even if I could afford this, It's definitely something I'll never need. Pure overkill for me.
Why buy the flx10 if the mixer at the club doesn't have the same controls 😂
Why buy a Prius if it doesn't have the same controls as an F1 car?
Cool
@@shakur10011 I want to hear a quality back to back test with denon mixer and pioneer
Great beast of a mixer jam packed with goodness. What a beauty! Well done Pioneer 👍🏻🙂
Thanks for watching
And the bit they don’t tell you is that pioneer have had quality problems with this mixer. Bent frames. Big recalls & supply issues as a result.
We didn't tell you that because it is not something we've discovered/been told/experienced. There's no conspiracy.
Still experiencing gear shortages/supply chain stuff unfortunately
Sbonge 🙌🏾
club standard according to who though?
that's what annoys me. it's ok to use yes. but I much prefer using a Xone!
Fair enough. Xone mixers are great.
Lol out of stock literally everywhere, sounds about right
😅 hopefully they resupply soon!
I stopped watching half way through this review because my pockets are not deep enough to afford this . But great job reviewing DJ gears !
Thanks DJ SPEED
👍👍👍👍
Nothing wrong with remotely turning down the gains on a DJ that is Red Lining. Can't trust careless DJ's is what that remote app feature is about.
Hopefully people don’t hack your mixer with Bluetooth
no 5 pin midi jack, really bad
There never has been on any of these mixers to my knowledge.
What a missed opportunity to put a USB hub 🤦🏾♂️ terrible!!!
$2,799? Dayam.
U should do a live demo at the same time rather than just giving tutorial n not demonstrating it.
what do you want demoed?
2800€ for this mixer. I can't take this company serious anymore. Absolutely ridiculous. I hope they lose their place as club standart one day and give it to denon.
Am I the only one that is really underwhelmed?
Seems so... :)
😮😮😮😮👏👏👏
I te reklamy żenada
klingon?
Damn Pioneer with that stupid headphone jack. 🙄
Not a fan, then? :)
That screen looks really low resolution. Honestly this is a pass.
@@djstuc This offers no advantages (for me at least) over my DJM900MK2.
they look pretty good to us
@@digitaldjtips Will take a look when thy are out on demo. Thnx for the review
500 more lol try 3k and only 600 less then the v10 at a sweet 6k. Why do pioneer hate Australian or want to exploit us.
