WHAT TO DO IF YOUR RANGE ROVER DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID IS LOW | EVOQUE | ADBLUE

- In this video, I show you what to do if your Range Rover Evoque / Land Rover needs diesel exhaust fluid otherwise know as AdBlue.
Every approximately 8000-9000 miles, your Ranger Rover in the UK if made 2016 onwards will require topping up the diesel exhaust fluid tank. A warning light will show on the dash board and will tell you the car will not restart in x amount of miles as you need a top up because it is low. If it is running really low, it will tell you it will no longer be able to restart soon.
When the warning appears you need to top up as soon as possible.
You can purchase AdBlue from most petrol stations and vehicle care retail outlets such as Halfords. I recommend using a funnel.
The tank will take a 10 litre bottle of fluid.
Pop the bonnet, locate the DEF cap, unscrew and top up.
And that is how you refill your AdBlue.

What is Adblue?
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) also known as AdBlue®, is a non-toxic, colourless, odourless and non-flammable fluid. Stored in a dedicated tank in your car, it is injected into the exhaust system to clean exhaust gases. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology is fitted to all Land Rover diesel vehicles from 2016 Model Year. It enables Land Rover to meet EU6 emissions legislation by reducing the levels of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emitted from the exhaust system by up to 90%. In addition to a new generation of catalytic converter, SCR Technology requires the use of DEF.

This just saved me a 3 hour round trip to Range Rover - brilliant - thank you
Glad it helped Kristy!!!!!!
This is excellent! I’ve been panicking since the light came on. Just one question - can you overfill? If it overflows will that cause a problem?
I bought the 1.5litre bottle for £18 and panicked when the warning light didn't turn off.
Thanks for this vid. Looks like I'm heading garage/Halford!
I just bought one that had previously been leased and and only had 20k miles on it but it went off the day after I bought it and I nearly had a heart attack🙃 so thanks for posting this!!💕
I wondered what the ad blue was Land Rover were trying to sell me. Panicked when the warning light came up and thankfully came across this helpful video 👍
Glad it helped
Bloody brilliant Dan, I’ve come out of the dark and in the know now after watching your video, thanks heaps for the info.
Just wanted to say thank you. Like others have said. This video and your simple nonsense explaination in this video has helped a great deal. The same warning light just appeared as I was driving home. I only have had the Evoque 3 weeks! So glad this is an easy fix. Thanks again!
I'm glad it helped 👍
I’ve never heard of this warning before. Luckily I have found your video and decided to buy some adblue tomorrow to do it myself. Thank you, video was very informative and straight forward. :) 👍
Thanks for this! I’ve just purchased a Range Rover and it’s literally just come on! Had a mini heart attack - you’ve eased my mind!
Thanks for easy and pleasant video, saved me a lot of time and money not going to Land Rover and you gave me the confidence to do it myself A Big Thankyou xx
Thank you so much for your kind words. Have a great weekend
Oh mate! you've just lowered my blood pressure!! thanks for the great vid 👍🏻
Haha nice one
I hope that you'll do a follow up on😮 what happens if you get a warning light that says improper fluid added engine restart warning ⚠️
I drove it to Land Rover and they wouldn't take it for 2 weeks. Now what do I do..?? I talked it up with blue def Platinum$30 and it didn't like it. Now what do I do..???
Thank you so much , excellent , clear advice. Saved an expensive trip to Land Rover!
thank you for sharing this video my warning light came on since yesterday didn't have a clue as to how to top up the Adblue but now I do!
Glad to have helped Sue!
Nice . But i want to ask you after the refill the ad blue the system of car reads normal the adblue and then the car has more km /miles ago without to do some reset or must go to a land rover service ? The screen error change it automatically ?
Are you asking if the system resets itself once you've topped it up? If so, yes. Unless you run it really low, sometimes it doesn't reset.
Thank you so much you saved me form going to the Land Rover place every now and again to fill that up.
You're very welcome
Thank you! Not much info on this saved me a trip to the dealer.
Edita Escalona no worries. I'm glad it helped 😁
Watching now in 2023. Price obviously has gone up a lot for the Adblue. Just bought a 10 litre tub yesterday and best price I got was £15:99. Local Shell Garage is selling it from pumps at £1:80 per litre. Good video mate. 👍
Thank so much for this it was very useful I just had this warning light come up and had no idea what it was all about. Thank again
Does the warning go away after you refill it or do you have to do something on the board computer?
It should automatically clear itself. However sometimes when you run it so low, it doesn't and requires landrover to reset. If the countdown runs out, the vehicle won't start!
This was great and very informative m. This just happened to my Evoque and I hadn’t a clue. Thank goodness I watched this first and didn’t go to the Land Rover garage. Thanks 👍
Thank you. The warning light came up 2 days ago. I will top it up myself today!
Glad it helped!!
very helpful video had been looking online for a while with no result and found this video explained perfectly on what to do
no worries. Glad it helped. I made the video because I had the same problem and struggled to find decent info. I actually had a problem where it ran down quite low and when I filled it up it didn't register so had to have a software update by Land Rover so topped it up as soon as it warns you!
Yea it’s only just come up on mine there about 3 days ago was thinking it was maybe where I left my tank pretty low on Diesel could have thrown up this warning message but just could not clear it off but thanks to your video just probably saved me a trip in to the Land Rover dealership costing me a fortune for something so simple 👍 I’ll be sure to get it done ASAP now that you say about that thanks buddy great help
Thanks . Great. About to fill the ad blue. With no manual for my evoque I had no idea.👍
glad it helped!
Thanks a lot. It was very useful. I filled mine by mayself. Regards from Menorca-Spain
Thank you 🙏🏻 just happened to me yesterday and I was worried to drive it anywhere but I’m off to the garage now to buy some 😊
Just got this warning light on my Jaguar XE, couldn’t find the info anywhere online so thanks for the heads up, stopped me making myself look like a clueless twat and going into the jaguar garage haha
Hi. Is it ok to use any type of AdBlue in the Evoque?
Some advice, its actually a 14L litre tank not 18 as per video. When the warning on the dash first comes on it reads 'no engine starts in 1200 miles, top up DEF fluid', now 1200 miles is a fair warning and its not imperitive you top up right that minute, obviously depending on your mileage determines when you top up. Now the thing is when you first get that warning it doesn't tell you how many litres are left OR how many litres to top up with, so bare in mind its a 14L tank and you've just bought 10L from a petrol station, will there be room for the full 10L or not who knows but be careful not to overfill as that brings up a seperate warning and then you have to drain some, personally I wait till my dash warnings are around the 250 miles left and then I top up 10L as I know it'll fit in
Mines only done 2200 miles and this popped up
Thanks for the info
Glad it helped!
Clear and straight forward... nice one....Thanx
Hope I'm not bothering you ! Just to add : it reads on the dash : red warning ! start engine not possible ; Exhaust fluid tanker empty ; Add 4,2 liters to restart engine...RR Evoque 06/18 BVA 9 / 180 / Question : Not need to add more than 4,2 L even if full AD blue Tank is 14 liters ? What do you think ? Thanks in advance mate
Thanks for saving the day🎉
Thanks a lot Buddy ! I was misinformed on the price of that AD blue liquid and was told to bring my vhl to range Rover service in order to reset red warning « start engine not possible ».
Happy to know I can do it by myself.
Kind regards from France
I'm in a pickle mine says I've added the incorrect fluid which means my fluid is bad or defective in some way. And I have 41 miles left before the engine shuts down. Do I siphon out what's in there and refill it?? I drove 100 miles to the dealer and they wouldn't take it inoar help me. That was Carlsbad Land Rover. I have a 2018 Range Rover sport Diesel with 41,000 miles and they wouldn't help me.
What do I do now??😢
Thank you for this I didn't know what to do
I have just tried to open the cap, turning same way as you did, I cant budge it - what am i doing wrong ?
Thank you for making this video 👍👍
Very informative...I will do that ,thanks 👍
Brilliant information thanks a lot.
Dan.
No worries. Glad it helped

Great video thanks mate 👍🏻

i think range rover recommend useing there ad blue as other ad blue might couse a fault as any one experianced a fault issue with useing alternative ad blues
Does range rover sport 2006 have this also.adblue fluid.?
Hi I have evogue as well, just wondering can I use any ad blue or is there a particular brand for the range rovers ?
Have a little read of this article. www.carbuyer.co.uk/tips-and-advice/152834/what-is-adblue
Thanks a million, you’ve saved me.
thanks for this buddy
Driving 40 miles after filling does NOT settle the code. I automatically top up after every two talks full,1800 kms...takes about 1 -1.5 liters. Second time it's happened to me. Haft'a' go to Rover dealer for wallet biopsy.
Great advice thanks
My pleasure
Thank god for this video! It came up on mine and I panicked hah! Thank you’
Yeah I had this warning last year in my evoque .. so I went to Halfords and they topped up with there adblue they sold … a couple of weeks later it came up with a quality fault and then my car wouldn’t start !! Took to Range Rover and I had to have fluid drained as the quality of adblue had faulted my engine .. fast forward I got charged £950 😢 so be warned you can’t just put any adblue in .. it will fault ! As I discovered.. gutted
Mine just run out, turned the car off topped it up and now it won’t start!
Useful thanks, music too loud though.
Thank you for the video - solved
Perfect!!!!!
