  • In reading the service manual from Nissan, I discovered that the instrument cluster panel can be put into a "diagnostic mode" where you can plainly see if each of the gauges is operating the way it should. I am testing here to see if the temperature gauge is working and (as you can see in the video) it is not. Had it been responding normally, then I would have moved on to further testing of the wiring and thermal transmitter.

Hi there, i have a 98 maxima 345k. My question is when you have it on diagnostic mode and when you press the button once, are all of the red arrows supposed to go all the way up? Or half way only

being that this was so long ago, I have to admit I am not 100% sure of the answer. I do not think that they have to move all the way up to prove they are working... In fact, in the video where I am describing the problem (ruclips.net/video/F0KLXWYv2mI/видео.html) you see that the needles are giving wrong readings where the needles of the gauges are all the way up. Rather I think that when you push the button in diagnostic mode, you should see accurate readings. Again since this was so long ago I am not 100% sure.... I would go back and watch all the videos I have on this issue and then do your own testing. Thats the best advise I can offer you on this... good luck...
