i've always found new bands from liner notes, from checking out other albums that looked interesting by the same producers/mixers/studio people, albums released by the same record label, bands from splits, and from cool demo tape covers that i see.

If I find I like anything that I discover online I seek out a copy on vinyl or CD (or both, if I REALLY dig it)

I noticed that nuclear blast usa, since updating to their new webstore last fall, is using a third party company for order delivery, a company called Down Right Merch. I think we're unfortunately going to see a lot of this kind of consolidating and big-box store type methodology. can't say it's a great thing...
Relapse used to be THE go-to label, (pretty much) everything they put out was awesome. Then they started putting out weird shit like Amorphis, Cave In, and a bunch of other bands that don't "fit the bill".

I remember exactly what jdawg is talking about. Up to the early 2ks, releapse was the premiere label for extreme metal, especially with their proximity to us locally (the pine barrens is wedged between the ac casinos/beach and the philly/camden ghetto). Then relapse got ... Weird. I remember a high school friend of mine had started working around that time and I told her "it's too bad you didn't work for relapse when they were good."
Kind of a dick statement but relevant to the conversation.
Nile, Skinless, Dillinger Escape Plan, Dying Fetus, these were all in heavy rotation amongst the keg parties in the woods of South Jersey. I feel like the more experimental DEP got, the more experimental Relapse got over the years with what they were doing and things became very hit or miss.
Yepyepyep! Late 90s-early 00s Relapse was a great entry point for some great death metal and grind for myself in high school. They definitely went downhill shortly after that with crappy bands like Baroness lol

You nailed it though Relapse kicked ass late 90s through to about 03/04. Remember the Resound magazine? Thats how i found alot of bands back in 2000..i still cant remember how i found Relapse probably just saw the name floating around and orderd the free catalog and then got a sampler and that was it from then on out on getting into real metal. HHB is definitely reminiscent of that to me

I will always love and support Relapse. I used to order by snail mail they had a huge catalog and since there was no RUclips if I didn't like the album they'd let me switch it. Simply the best!

I Was lucky enough to live 6 miles from the old Warehouse in Upper Darby PA. The warehouse moved but the offices are still in Upper Darby, Relapse was actually my first job and then I broke my ankle... but yeah Relapse used to rule!!!! First album on Relapse was Foreshadowing Our Demise then came one of the worst albums ever..... From Sacrifice To Survival which still is a head scratcher.
I can't possibly fathom Relapse somehow having you frame houses or jump out of helicopters or climb thousand foot antennas for work... You had to quit a desk job because the walk to the bathroom with a little air boot walking cast thing was too strenuous? Have your morning shit at home then, brotown! Who pays the bills when you just voluntarily leave because you don't feel like working no more? You think the rest of us feel like getting up at 6am 5-7 days per week? Unemployment insurance don't cover that slacker shit, brahbrah.
