'"He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark" still makes me laugh like shit. Mike Myers is so underrated. He literally wrote this film series and Waynes World.
Mike Myers really created this as a love letter to the stuff he used to watch with his dad, not just classic Bond but going into old Bond spoofs like Our Man Flint or TV shows like Jason King or The Man From UNCLE. But the clever thing is how funny it is in its own right - if you can spot the references that's a bonus, but you really don't need to.
23:58 That's Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) if you didn't catch it. Quite a few of these jokes are an homage to different Bond movies, especially Goldfinger: The dude that throws a shoe throws a metal-brimmed hat (Oddjob), the card cheating scene has a woman talking to someone over a radio into an earpiece, the villain in Dr. No (first Bond movie) has a cat like Dr. Evil, Alotta's name is referencing names like Xenia Onatopp and Octopussy, the massively over-the-top sex appeal because Bond can't be resisted by women and others. A lot more in the other movies too lol
Other 90‘s movies: I always liked Bedazzled with Elizabeth Hurley and Brendan Fraser. It’s from January 2000 but I count it as 90s. 😉 I would say that every Brendan Fraser film is worth watching. And of course Waynes World as another Mike Myers movie. 😊
"Any other classic 90s comedies I shouldn't miss" Yeah, Kevin Smith's original 5 films: Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
Absolutely LOVE Austin powers. His theme song is legendary and I’m strongly considering making it my ringtone 😂 please do watch the 3rd, it’s the best one in my opinion. ❤
I think they're all pretty groovy. In the 3rd one that gag they do with the old man janitor kills me. It's so simple, yet effective. The dude just has a great time with Austin's misfortune. 😂
It's not only a spoof of James Bond, but also some of the 1960 British television series like "The Avengers" - not Marvel, but with Patrick Macnee, Honor Blackman, and Diana Rigg. Roger Moore (who was a star in the James Bond movies) also played Simon Templar in the series "The Saint". In the 1970s Robert Wagner starred in an American TV Series called "It Takes A Thief". And of course the transition scenes are reminiscent of the US TV series "Laugh-In."
A while ago someone parked so far up my ass, I found myself amidst the Austin "golf cart hallway scene." I was so pissed, but it was so ridiculous, it was hilarious and thought of this. My best friend and I rewound the sneaker explosion scene probably 50 times in tears 🤣
Im surprised you didn't react to The Mask it's a masterpiece . But honestly you can't go wrong with this franchise. Mike Myers is brilliant for playing so many different roles
Seth Green is my favorite In anything he plays but this is hilarious. I saw this in the theater and we laughed so loud. Good memories. Love it!❤❤❤. Wayne’s World is very worth watching. It’s the highest earning SNL skit based movie ever. It’s also one of my favorite films.
Dr. Evil is mostly a parody of the villain Blofeld, the head of the evil organization SPECTRE, who appeared in 6 original Bond films iconicly played by Donald Pleasence (but sometimes by others). Before he was seen or named he was referred to as "Number 1". In the Daniel Craig movies, they cast Christoph Waltz. Eventually he's revealed to be Bond's foster/adoptive brother.
So many direct parodies of the early Bond films. Just a few: - The push button fire chairs - Random Task throwing a shoe instead of Odd Job throwing a hat - Dr. Evil’s inspiration, Blofeld, had no earlobes, so Dr. Evil has huge earlobes. - All the old Bond girls had ridiculous, sexual names, like Alotta Fagina - “No, Mr. Powers, I expect them to die.” - Petting the white cat like Blofeld The list goes on and on…
Mike Myers is very much like Peter Sellers, who in the 1960s and 70s, also played multiple characters in the same film, notably in 'Dr. Strangelove' as Group Captain Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove. Definitely check out the rest of the Austin Powers films, but 'So I Married An Axe Murderer' is also really funny. I love 'Wayne's World', but not 'Wayne's World 2'...a lot of people love both. Dr. Evil is basically Myers channeling his old boss at Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels. Most SNL comedians have their own Lorne Michaels impression in their back pocket (Bill Hader's is also really good!!!). But if you watch Michaels in an interview, then watch a clip of Dr. Evil...it's kinda scary. In the scene at the beginning where Austin hits a woman, and it's a man...the stuntperson who took the hit was Patricia Tallman, an actress, and stuntwoman. Her greatest claims to fame...doing the running scene for Laura Dern in Jurassic Park where Ellie has to outrun the raptors to get the power back on in the park, and playing the telepath Lyta Alexander in the 1990s sci-fi series 'Babylon 5' in the pilot movie, and in seasons 2 through 5.
Alotta Fagina, In the old Bond movies, the Bond girls had very sexually suggestive names. This one obviously inspired by the most famous "Pussy Galore".
They way Dr Evil puts his pinky at his lip when he thinks he has figured out something genius and evil that no1 else would've thought of like a child 🙂 Dr Evil and Scott have such a healthy relationship that could only grow if they were in the Jerry Springer show 😂 Mike Myers also does the voice to Shrek 🙂
Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond books, wrote/published the first book in 1953. The first movie came out in 1962 and many others followed. It's really a great franchise and I've been watching in since the 60's. Great reaction to Austin Powers and, like other have recommended, I hope you will watch the other 2 in the series. Can't wait for you to be introduced to the character "Fat Bastard".. 😂😂😂😂
I would definitely recommend watching all the original James Bond movies in order of release starting with Dr. No. They're so great! Personally, I'm not a fan of the soft reboot/prequel-esque Daniel Craig movies. Be sure to watch all the original films and you'll be able to see the countless nods and easter eggs from them in the Austin Powers movies.
Same, I like Casino Royale, as given the nature of the novel I think it was done quite well as a modern version and I quite like Skyfall, though as a fan of the original series I can't help but think the begining and the end of Skyfall make zero sense, not with From Russia with Love in mind, setting up traps/liasons on the go but he just runs off to a house? And the start. Ok, Agent down, doesn't mean the train's going anywhere but forwards and there's plenty of other field agents or military that woul have been called in, just stresses me out how people seem to look down on the classics when they made more sense than anything modern.
This was a go to for our family on movie night in the 90s and early aughts. That and Liar Liar. My dad did so many impressions of Austin Powers that also had us howling and embarrassed. This still stands up so well, the dialogue is so fucking clever.
Love that you’re going through the 90’s movies, been watching them all so far. Another cool playlist you could do is Brendan Fraser movies.. encino man, airhead, George of the jungle. Among others
1 thing that is interesting about these movies is Seth Green plays Scott like the straight man amongst all the Craziness like he notices weird things and flaws around him that nobody else really does
Hey Carrot Top did have a movie. And if you look up "Norm Macdonald Courtney Thorne Smith interview" you'll see one of the funniest things ever broadcast, where they talk about the (then) upcoming release of the Carrot Top movie which Courtney started in.
Made me laugh when you said "don't know him" when the Burt Bacharach album was seen at the beginning, because i knew he was actually in the movie during the vegas bus date scene singing his biggest hit.
A popular series of pseudo-Bond films that came out during the early James Bond film era stars James Coburn as Flint in: Our Man Flint (1966), and In Like Flint (1967). Dead on Target (1976) came much later and is supposed to be part of this franchise, but has a different actor as Flint. Apparently it was supposed to be the pilot for a Derek Flint television series with the new actor as its lead.
Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but Joe Son, the actor who played Random Task, is serving a lifetime sentence for the torture of a 19-year-old woman in 1990. He remained uncaught until 2008, when a DNA match linked him to the crime. In 2017, he was sentenced to an additional 27 years for murdering his cellmate.
When this movie came out it was a very bizarre moment for me. Because I could swear I saw clips of Myers as Austin a long while before this movie came out. But I had no idea from where. It was weird, because it was so familiar yet new at the same time when watching this movie. Fast forward some years and I finally discover that he used the character for a fake hippy 60s themed although real band that you can see in the weird transitions for this movie. He would sing as this character with this band and eventually he expanded the character he made for the band into a full movie… this movie. Apparently his wife at the time was the one who convinced him the character would work for a movie.
There’s a deleted scene after the “sea bass eating the head” moment where it turns out the guard was about to get married and would now be late for his bachelor party. Rob Lowe is in it, before his appearance as a younger Number Two in the sequel
I hope you watch all 3, ps Basil was in the movie Logans Run, and I would like to suggest the movies Splash, The Shakiest Gun In The West, The Great Outdoors and The Howling 😊
This was when Seth Green branched out to other things. He made a lot more money than he did on Buffy, and I think it was difficult to continue to give much of a storyline with his Oz character.
If you were familiar with the Sean Connery era Bond movies you would have got more of the jokes - at the time of its release many would know these movies well as they were screened regularly on TV even if you hadn't seen them at the cinema. If you watch Goldfinger you will see where the characters Alotta Fagina (Pussy Galore) and Random Task (Oddjob) originated.
I just looked it up and it is not a fun fact. He murdered his cell mate after being convicted of the brutal rape and torture of a young woman. What a fucking psycho!
All of his stuff is great, especially his 80's and 90's stuff. You gotta watch the Austin Powers sequels. I think Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is the best of the Trilogy...
Austin Powers was my idol and hero when I was a kid🤣. He made me realize 3 things, life will never be as exiting and colorful as england in the 60´s imagened by a australian with a love for his childhood memmories,I need a femebot and welvet is a bitch to work with.😂🤣
So close to seeing a reaction actually include the arc where Austin tries adjusting to the new times, all that looking up things he missed. But you just had 2 little scenes to laugh at.
'"He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark" still makes me laugh like shit. Mike Myers is so underrated. He literally wrote this film series and Waynes World.
Mou😊
"So I married an axe murderer" was pretty decent. I love when Mike Myers plays a bunch of different characters in the same movie :)
Head move! He’s going to cry himself to sleep in his huge pilla.
Woman.... whoaaa man,
She was a thief, you gotta believe,
She stole my heart and my cat... 😶
Head! Pants now!
He loves doing the Scottish accent. I think he said he picked it up from his dad or grandfather
That movie is criminally underrated. I absolutely loved it.
Not to mention the Carry On films, Benny Hill & Michael "blow the bloody doors off" Caine as inspirations for Austin Powers.
@@diogenesagogothat movie, the original Italian Job, is a fantastic movie and we’ll worth watching.
All three of these movies are great. Hopefully you will finish the trilogy.
23:58 That's Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) if you didn't catch it. I always liked Bedazzled with Elizabeth Hurley and Brendan Fraser. It’s from January 2000 but I count it as 90s. 😉 I would say that every Brendan Fraser film is worth watching.
And of course Waynes World as another Mike Myers movie. 😊
That itself was a remake of an older B&W film.
God...Elizabeth Hurley in "Bedazzled"...it's crazy how hot Hurley *still* is.
@@3DJapan Actually the original "Bedazzled" with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore wasn't in B&W, it was in color. A fun movie and well worth a watch!
Dr. Evil's monologue at the therapy is honestly my favorite thing ever.
“He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark.” 😂
I recommend you watch all three of these. They're all hilarious!
Goldmember is my favourite 🤣
R.I.P., Burt Bacharach (May 12, 1928 - February 8, 2023). Please react to all three films. You'll love them.
"Any other classic 90s comedies I shouldn't miss" Yeah, Kevin Smith's original 5 films: Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
First of all, lol, no. Second of all, JSBSB came out in 2001. Thirdly, the only classic listed there is Clerks. You Kevin Smith dorks are so lame
Second dogma
I'm just glad you knew who Carrot Top is :)
Little well known gem is Best In Show. Same guys that did This Is Spinal Tap, which is also a must watch.
Wayne's World is great, based on the skit from SNL. It is not a musical but it does relate to music.
It's not only a spoof of James Bond, but also some of the 1960 British television series like "The Avengers" - not Marvel, but with Patrick Macnee, Honor Blackman, and Diana Rigg. Waynes World would be amazing. This is definitely a fun series. Especially the next 2 where he plays even more of the characters :D
The 2 actors in the split screen @ 4:37 were BOTH in Classic Star Trek AND Star Trek DS9!
Dr. Evil is mostly a parody of the villain Blofeld, the head of the evil organization SPECTRE, who appeared in 6 original Bond films iconicly played by Donald Pleasence (but sometimes by others). Totally agreed! I watched Goldmember an absurd amount of times as a kid. All 3 are so good.
The Asian henchman "Random Task" is the parody version of "Odd Job" from a Bond film. He threw his steel rimmed bowler hat to cut off heads and stuff.
You've seen Mike Myers in Iglorious Basterds
The sequels are also very funny. My favorite is Goldmember (#3).
I had never seen a James Bond movie before seeing any of the Austin Powers movies but these movies are some of my favorite comedies!

The 3rd Austin Powers is the best one which is not typical!! You won't regret watching them all.
Awesome
Great review, looking forward to the sequels!
Wayne's World is great, lots of silly and self-aware humor, along with homages and spoofs of other movies.
The shoe throwing guy is a parody of a guy called Oddjob who throws his hat in Goldfinger (one of, if not the best Bond film)
In real life that guy is in jail for murder now.... Odd facts.
Dr evil falling out of his chair will always be the best part of this movie for me hahaha
Wayne's World!!! Theeee Mike Meyers movie 😅
Also, So I Married An Axe Murderer is great 💯👍

Wayne's World 1 & 2 are MUST SEE. So, I Married An Axe Murderer is really good too. The Love Guru SUCKS!!!
33:28 they meant *aging hippie, but the wrong line works as prescience.
That therapist is Princess Leia herself(Carrie Fisher)
