I was a fast food, sugar junkie most of my life. Until I was diagnosed with an incurable disease. ( Fibromyalgia) The Doctors told me I would be on drugs to manage the pain, depression, mood swings, skins rashes and more for life. I was taking eight prescription drugs to manage the above. Long story short. Eleven years ago, I cut out the processed sugar, processed foods, and switched my eating habits to fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and meat twice a week. As of now I have dropped seven of the prescription drugs and lost 40 pounds. My Doctors are stunned and don’t understand why I have gotten well. The medical schools teach medical students almost NOTHING about nutrition. Interesting..... What I have done is difficult to do and will take a serious commitment. Although it definitely comes much easier in time. Get started, ask God to help you, and commit. It’s definitely possible to conquer this destructive habit.

This was a very helpful sermon on gluttony. I struggled for years with addiction. Before I was saved, it was alcohol, going to church, I changed it to Internet shopping and now it is food. I have a serious problem with food where I fear it and it has been destroying me. I decided to get off my insulin and walked 8 miles a day for 15 months and lost 115 pounds. I started having breathing problems and after months it ended up I needed a stent in my heart. The blood thinners caused blood in my urine and it ended up being cancer, they took my right kidney out. I was put back on insulin and gained my weight back. I stopped eating fruit, vegetables and carbs for two years, lost nothing but felt in control of my eating. I am now on all food groups and the carbs make me insanely out of control. I have felt I am a disappointment to God and I see things differently after listening to you. Calling food an idol is going to be helpful because I never want to put anything in first place above God. Christmas Day, I did not want to be with my family, I stayed home and fasted for 24 hours because I did not want to fail with my eating. Going forward, I will eat healthy and chose God over the foods that are killing me. Thanks for being brave and talking about gluttony. So many preachers avoid the topic. I finally understand! Thanks again.

We need reminders. I repented of gluttony over two years ago. Lost 70 pounds. Got my blood sugar, cholesterol and kidney function back in control. Now I'm pregnant and have to GAIN weight but in a controlled way. That was hard. I'm in the beginning of the third trimester and already 35 pounds up. I've got to try to maintain now. I'm on here to remember what gluttony is. Not only am I sinning against my body but my child's body by eating to the point that I can't breath (easy to do now lol) and feeling miserable. Then when I'm feeling like that I sin against my family because I am not very pleasant and don't feel up to serving my household. As soon as I start watching my food intake and water intake, I feel better and am ready to serve my family. Pregnancy brings its own discomforts but gluttony doesn't need to add to it!

Many years ago, at a buffet style restaurant, I sat within sight of a preacher. He was very overweight, and in front of him was a huge salad, meat, pastas and dessert. Yet, it is the same person who preaches to the congregation about the sin of drugs, alcohol, etc. That’s when God revealed to me that not being able to control my eating was just as sinful as over indulging in other sins.

You have been to 5 wells already, and the well you are with right now won't even commit to you. I will. If you drink this water you'll never thirst again.

Consider support for the emotions that lead to the need to self soothe with food that is not effective or does not support health.
      What triggers it?
Is it the feeling of sadness, sorrow or depression?
Is it fear, anxiety, worry, etc?
      Is it anger, resentment etc?
Or is it a way to relive or bring love or memories back? There is support and help to overcome the habit.
It can be a sugar/carb addiction that causes an emotional high or raises mood temporarily and then a crash (insulin spike and crash)

I absolutely enjoy and appreciate your teachings. HOWEVER...the audio is extremely low. Can you please make adjustments in volume control for future videos? Thank you and God bless.

Sorry for the poorer audio quality! This sermon is fairly old, so the audio quality wasn't as good then. Our more recent sermons have better audio.

How does a person deal with an eating disorder in this context as well ? Going binge eating from growing up in an enviornment of food scarcity is hurting people.

Does eating an excessive amount of food to build muscle as a weightlifter count as gluttony?

Consider support for the emotions that lead to the need to self soothe with food that is not effective or does not support health.
    What triggers it?
Is it the feeling of sadness, sorrow or depression?
Is it fear, anxiety, worry, etc?
    Is it anger, resentment etc?
Or is it a way to relive or bring love or memories back? There is support and help to overcome the addiction.
It can be a sugar/carb addiction that causes an emotional high or raises mood temporarily and then a crash (insulin spike and crash). For many we need to avoid it, not buy it, not have it around and replace it with healthy foods that meets the body’s need for fat, fiber, protein, nutrients.
    - Emotions anonymous
    - overeaters anonymous
    - clutterers anonymous

    Col. 3:1-11
    You are United with Christ
The Holy Spirit dwells within you
You still have desires but you are not ruled by them.
    Ephesians 2:1-
We are made alive in Christ.
    Deal with Gluttony
    Phillipians 3:19
Gluttony isn’t a problem with food is a problem with worship. Whatever they worship and desire they satisfy all appetites. Excess in all consumption.
It’s more than drunkenness, spending, shopping, drugs, commodities that you want or commodities that you use to get something else in return, often it’s stuff that is easy to excuse…
Once you raise the pleasure of something that makes you happy, comfort, it then becomes idolatry.
    Proverbs 25: 16-17
