I don’t consider myself religious but there’s definitely much wisdom one can draw from Buddha’s teachings - I especially like the Dalia Lama’s teaching on compassion, sympathy, and suffering…

The Lord's prayer is an example of how one can pray and it is said in a group setting. You can always say your own prayer in your own words. Buddist monks also chant some preset prayer.

It's nice to see you have a happy Tet holiday. I saw a video of yours talking about difficult times before, I haven't been able to watch the whole video but I'm sure everyone has dark times in their lives. Today I happened to see you clasping your hands in front of the Buddha. I want you to know that he once said that our life today is the result of the karma that we have planted in many previous lives and that is the balance of the law of cause and effect, so learn to accept reality, let go of the things we cannot control and try to plant good things for the future. Happy Lunar New Year!

This place looks very nice. The pagoda is beautiful. Although I am Christian, some of the buddhist teachings are good, such as do not harm, do not kill.

Hi Bently, can you please ask Trang - I hope I got the spelling correct - what would be a reasonable estimate of the cost of living in her parents' hometown for a couple - like her parents? I am asking because it looks like a great place to semi-retire or retire. For example, the cost to rent a house, the cost of food, the cost of transport, etc. Thanks, from Australia.

He’s probably going to need more information like do you want a service apartment or house? Do you eat street food all the time which is very cheap or are you going to cook at home (more expensive). If you’re going to cook at home you can shop at local wet market which is cheaper but not as clean, but if you find a nice super market it’ll be more expensive and of course much cleaner food. If you do an apartment/house how many bedroom do you want? Obviously there will be a big difference for each additional bedroom. My wife and I figure for our lifestyle and the fact that we have a baby we need maybe $2,500-$3,000 to have a nice service apartment in Saigon (Thao Dien) and all our other expenses. I would guess for a more countryside setting such as this you guys would probably be good on $1,600-$2,200 a month but again it depends on your lifestyle and how nice of a place you want to live.

@@TheNamDude Thanks for the reply. Yes, you make very valid points. However, you have given, it seems, a valid range for a couple. I will assume the $2500 - $3000 range as it appears you live a comfortable life within these figures. Thanks, Shaun

I used to live in hue about 10 years ago. I paid $200 for a two bedroom on bath house right in the center of town. Assuming double escalation, it probably cost $400-$500 for rent. Phan Rang which is where Trang’s family live, cost of living is very similar or even cheaper. I paid about $200/mo for a lady to come in a cook for me once a day and clean the house. I paid another $200 for the groceries. About $100 for utilities, probably double now. About $200 for eating out and transportation. $1500 is more than enough for a single living in a small town or $2500 for a couple. My guess is Trang’s family does not spend more than $1000 per month excluding housing. Note that there’s probably not western style service apartment in small towns.

This is my hometown and I always think this is a perfect place to retired. Cost of living is very affordable and the air is fresh. It feels like Maui but without tourist and affordable. They also just opened a new golf course if you’re interested in playing golf. My parents keep their house and come back every years for couple months vacation. Very nice and peaceful city.

I get that you guys broke up (or back together now? I can’t tell). But the way you title your recent videos looks like you didn’t have a history with Trang. To be honest it feels a bit cold, for those who watched your previous video and knew Trang was your gf. Why not “my ex gf’s family adopted me” or something to that nature?
I do wonder if Trang watches your videos. Btw, Trang and her family make your videos so much more interesting!
