Funny that. In Arabian countries, putting/throwing shoes on something, writing something on shoes or putting someone's picture on them, and the act of stepping on something are all seen as insults and methods of degradation. Funny thing is, had they simply introduced this customisation feature in a normal way and then added the pronoun bit as an extra to that, it wouldn't have been so bad. It's the fact that they SPECIFICALLY focused on the pronoun thing that makes this look as stupid as it is.
