When Frieren looks surprised that old man Voll doesn't know the Demon King is dead it was her realizing Voll is old and senile. He had momentarily forgot and she realized he really was aging, which maybe she didn't want to fully believe at first. But like a lot of old folks who forget things, reminiscing with Frieren brought back memories of his wife when he dreamt of her.
notice, how frieren always say "see you later" ... but with Voll she said "take care" thinking it was really the last time they would meet... but after Voll said, she switched it back to "see you later" meaning he might have some good time left in him :D

Have been patiently waiting for your reaction to this next duo of episodes. I noticed something new about episode 16 this time around. 19:55 when talking about the life expectancy of a dwarf, Frieren says she wants to chat with him before he dies and Stark looks distraught saying, "That's not funny." Seems to me it's because he knows Eisen is old but unsure his actual age and his sole purpose to adventure with them is to return to Eisen and tell him stories he learned along the way. Likely also to apologize for leaving in anger after learning so much more about himself and Eisen since then.
Frieren saying "cakey taberu ~" is still one of the cutest things ever for some reason. And the entire first part of EP16 with Voll is really emotional, this show is so good at bringing out emotion from a character that had 10 minutes of screen time, amazing storytelling, as we've come to expect from Frieren.
This show is such a rollercoaster. I absolutely love the dance sequence... It's so (un)subtle in developing and showing the trust and care between Stark and Fern. And Voll... Oof, shot to the heart! Sein is the Goat(ee) Priest! C:

Possible very minor spoiler. I feel like Frieren could probably use some legendary cleaning magic spell to pay for things pretty easily. Like "Hey, I'll remove that stain for some apples".

I'm pretty sure they do get paid money for their side jobs as they adventure. Not every job could possibly pay with a grimoire, and they've probably done many dozens of jobs if not more.
Frieren is a masterpiece IMHO. Also if you're interested in a totally different genre anime, have you watched Wind Breaker? I'd like to see your thoughts on that one. Cheers!

Oh, you are absolutely not ready for the last arc of this season. This show is a rollercoaster and one of the best I've ever watched.

I made a similar comment above, but I imagine Frieren could barter pretty easily with folk magic. Offer to clean something or remove rust.
