I love this video and your method of gilding with chicory. Thank you for sharing! May I ask your recipe of how you prepare the chicory powder to turn it into a gilding size? I'd love to try this method!
Beautifully done - both the gilding and the video. This is the first time I have come across anyone using this method - it looks easier to do than shell gold, especially for large areas. What is the rice powder you used, i.e. where do you get it - or how do you make it? (N.B. For anyone, like me, who is struggling to find the chicory extract at pandorapigments.com, look under "gilding" and then under "gilders size".) Also, I assume that your first use of the brush in the video was applying the chicory and the second use, in the "touch up", you were applying more of your paint, i.e. egg tempera. It is hard to distinguish between them when watching the video.
Several of the art stores should have it. Kremer pigments has it for sure. It is a very versatile natural adhesive that turns clear in oil or water. shop.kremerpigments.com/en/
a note: better use shell gold if you are working on paper. Or use a synthetic adhesive for paper. The chicory extract is for panel only. It becomes too brittle when dry for use on a flexible support.
Another question: did you use egg tempera for the paint in this work? I'm asking because it doesn't look it but I am very inexperienced with egg tempera so maybe this is how it looks when a person know how to handle the medium. You appeared to make some very pointed brush strokes over the paint without lifting previous layers...
this is egg tempera. To avoid lifting previous layers allow several days to one week for the paint to cure. it won't become completely waterproof when cured, but it will be much more resistant.
I sell by commission. I am working on selling reproductions online at www.byzantineicons.us , but the store isn't ready yet. If you wish to commission a painting email me @ citypaintings@gmail.com

@@luizab221 Thank you - I appreciate your responses. I have much to learn.
Do you sell these paintings? And if so where can I find them?

I dont find the chicory on the net?!? 😢
looks like they've switched to synthetics. You can buy synthetic size or I have some chicory, I can send it to you.
