    Great video, I would add that if you plan on towing heavy loads up hills and are close to your trucks towing limit you will struggle to climb hills. That's why you need to get a more capable truck so you don't struggle up those hills! Trust me I found out the hard way :)

      Never buy an F-250 if you want to pull a 5th wheel. Ford dumbs them down to 10,000 GVWR just to save on insurance and registration, even though the truck is capable of much more.

    Nice video. It’s really a shame most truck sales people as well as camper/trailer people can’t figure this stuff out. I’ve witnessed both Ford sales and camper sales do this and bite my tongue. The only reason I say Ford is I’m a Ford guy I know it’s across the board. I have buddy’s that will argue with me, well I have airbags so I’m good. You have a 250/2500 with 2000lbs of payload and your trailer ate that up already. .

    Ford's ales people should be trained better with regard to towing. Not one I met during my search knew a thing about tow weight. Nobody mentioned the advantage of a 4:30 gear set which is perfect for towing 6,000-10,000 Lbs with a 6.2L I found the entire hunt experience with Ford dealerships to be pretty disappointing. I ended up buying my 2017 F350 from a Chevy dealer who knew more about trucks (and Fords) than 6 different ford dealerships.

    If you order the gooseneck package does it come installed or does it have to be installed by a third party?

    • @longmcarthur
      @longmcarthur  3 года назад +3

      The gooseneck package requires you to have the 5th/gooseneck prep package (which would be installed at the factory) but the gooseneck package would come in a carry case and you would put the ball and hooks into the holes already in the bed from the prep package.

      Look at the yellow/white sticker on the frame of the driver side it should say on there what you can load your truck with. For example mine says 3,331 so if me and fam together are around 600 lbs then I can load around 2,731lbs my fifth wheel adds around 1,600lbs onto my truck so that still leaves me with a bit over a grand that I can load more onto my truck. Might be time to add a gravity fed 100 gallon fuel tank 🤔

    • @fedguy9182

      That 250 had the power stroke diesel which reduces payload by about 800 lbs. My nieces Chevy diesel 2500hd has a payload of only 1860 lbs. If you want a diesel get an F350 or 3500. My diesel F350 Lariat has payload of 3528 lbs because of the heavier suspension.

      Diesel vs, gas- the issue isn’t the truck, it’s your understanding of weight rating differences.

    • @mikejohnson7862
      @mikejohnson7862 2 года назад +1

      @Living Soule, I’d be surprised if you could get to 3,500 lb payload in a 250. Maybe if you get the heavy tow package, and 10,800lb GVWR package (that might be the max tow package) and stay to the lightest engine and low trim model package. I have a 2020 F350 Lariat with most other add on options minus the panoramic moon roof and power deplorable running boards, with the 6.7L Diesel and my payload number is 3,483. I wish it was a little higher, probably could have been above 3,500 if I would have stayed at 4x4 instead of opting for Fx4. Also on the F350 anyway, if you get the long box you can get increased GVWR to 12,300 rather than normal 11,500 for most F350s. So doing a long box will get you more payload. Really the price difference between a F250 and F350 is negligible, and Ike been very impressed with my ride quality so that shouldn’t be a big concern. That leaves licensing as a price differentiator, check your states differences, in WI it’s more, but not that bad. In some states though I think they treat 1ton trucks as commercial, so that would be a pain.

    • @mikejohnson7862
      @mikejohnson7862 2 года назад

      I want to add that my truck mentioned in the previous comment is a crew cab, maybe by going with a standard or extended cab in the F250 you could get closer to that 3,500lb payload

    • @Inmate533
      @Inmate533 2 года назад

      @@mikejohnson7862 Thanks Mike. I’m thinking 3483 is probably close enough for me. Plus I’m definitely looking for a long bed and no FX4, I’m betting I’m either going to be over the 3500 mark in a lariat or I can shed that extra 15 lbs somehow. Or maybe I’ll just lose 15 lbs myself. 😙 Now the question is, will I be able to find a long bed that I like at a dealer, or do I order one and roll the dice on having to wait forever for the electronics to get made.

    • @mikejohnson7862
      @mikejohnson7862 2 года назад +1

      @@Inmate533 , I think in a long bed 4x4 you’ll be well above 3,500, especially if you go with a gasser, but even if you go diesel I think you’ll still be over 3,500. My Lariat has pretty much every option you can add minus those I mentioned. I ordered mine with 18” wheels as I was hoping it would fit in my garage, and it does by 1”, 7ft door with a little less clearance than that. Definitely want one with the LED lighting, I love that, think most cars coming towards me would disagree, but it’s first time driving that I finally feel like I have the lighting I want at night.
