So many salty comments as Hogg’s playing career showed: 3x Lions tours, 2x 6N player of the tournament. His move to Exeter did not improve him as a player for me and lost pace and was in fairness probably better marked. His defence has been very good, although a popular line of attack on his play, a 15 will always be exposed as the last line of defence. Can’t defend him off the field, but on the field he was consistently one of the best full backs in the game for a decade. He did start against Japan in the 2019 rwc fyi…
@@usarugbyleagueunionfan if you're from the UK and you are doing a video on Scottish rugby, there is absolutely no excuse for butchering the pronunciation of Hawick
It’s a very good insight into how sportsmen & sportswomen have a lot to juggle throughout their lives apart from their careers & love of the sports they play🙏🏻
Hang on, noticed at aged 20 in 2012, it is 2024 now makes him 34, has to finish sometime became age is marching on. As for his passion for the game and his failings, well we all have those problems.
Good video, aside from the pronunciation of 'Hawick' lmao. For me, Hogg only has himself to blame for his downfall. It might feel like the media turned on him overnight, but his career is full of controversy. He was dropped from the Glasgow match day squad multiple times in his early career (including the pro 12 final), got his only international red through a cheap shot on Dan Biggar, was constantly told off by his coaches for his comments on social media, encouraged the press to further harass him by biting on their headlines, snuck out of Scotland camp with 5 other players to go clubbing and - rumour has it - was the one that sparked the fall out between Finn Russell and Gregor Townsend... That's without mentioning his personal life, in which, he's lucky not to see jail time for. While he's bound to retire with a playing record that most can only dream of, he also has a tonne of failed potential, thanks to his own antics. It makes me sad that such a player had to turn out to be a horrible person. I can only hope that his records are dead and buried through time, like how Duhan and Darcy are already erasing his try scoring record.
The problem for Scotland is this is their best team in 20 years and they have won nothing. Glasgow have in fairness won trophies but the national team have blossomed under Ireland and France. With just two pro sides how long can they keep performing. Getting knocked out of the RWC in the pool stages was understandable given the quality of opposition but also ran isn't good enough. Hogg blossomed in a talked up mediocre team and was like all things Scottish Rugby got talked up.
Saying it’s their best team in 20 years is not saying much, given Scotland were absolutely terrible for most of that 20 years. Realistically it’s going to be a struggle to win much when Ireland (and to a lesser extent France) are so good. But it’s hardly the end of the world - the only key member of the team who is aging is Finn. The rest are mostly mid-20s, with plenty of time left yet. Hopefully GT steps away next year to get a stronger coach in charge.
People need to realise just how low the bar was when Hogg started his playing career. Scotland would win 2 or 3 games/year at best and they even lost at home to Tonga. Murrayfield only sold out against England and the all blacks and even having a half-full stadium was considered a good day. This current Scotland team might be the best in 20 years, but that's because the others were so poor
Completely overrated imo. The only reason he has any attention was that he was the only player with any spark in a sea of mediocrity with Scotland. Once Scotland got better, he was found out to be totally lacking defensively and tactically. Keenan, Kearney, Halfpenny, Williams, Daly are way better
It leaves Hogg doing what he always does, turns up, all goes a bit wonky after a while and off he goes again to another club/league/country and so the cycle goes on
From a long standing Leinster fan here, I always felt that if I was one of Stuart’s coaches, from when he was a boy right up through to today, I’d have no hair left watching him. As somebody who is half Scottish and half Irish, I always want Scotland to be right up there playing well, challenging everywhere (except of course when Scotland are up against Ireland 😊). And Stuart initially looked to be a great prospect. He’s got great ability all round, great flair, can do some magic things sometimes during games but…….. Yes there’s a “but”. A big one. He’s always been horrifyingly prone to making shocking errors and to sometimes disappearing altogether from games. I don’t know the guy. I’m sure he’s a nice decent person. But I couldn’t and wouldn’t trust him to deliver a good, productive, safe and winning performance in every game.
Everyone's upset about "Ha-wick", but no one has mentioned the claim that his acceleration earned him the nickname "Hoggy the Highway". Absolutely no one has ever called him that. Where on earth did you get that from? John Talks Shite, more like 😂
Having looked at his face going to court ,I believe he is capable of killing someone who is weaker and less strong as he is, just by the hate he had in his eyes. He gets his arrogance from his parents who have been held as some of Hawick's pillars of society, arrogant and entitled (big headed) .
Someone should mention how he pronounced Hawick, haven’t seen enough comments about it. Interesting video bro, keep it up.
