    I really don't care why the coil has failed, I can current ramp but I don't when I know by swappin that it's causing a misfire. Sure I've seen the burned through boots, and I can see one with my eyeballs too. After 35 years of this stuff I'm not real thrilled with scopes unless I need it for a "tough diagnostic". My attitude aside you do nice videos. The only thing you might add is how the coil is controlled. Thanks for an informative video. My poor old Vantage pro sits for weeks sometimes

    Wow, what an eye opener. Got this type of issue on my first outback H6 2006, and now it started on my 2011 H6.
    You wouldn't believe all the crap I heard and the $$$ I shelled.
    I just realized they were plainly too ignorant to lean to use an oscilloscope.
    Keep on learning !

    Another thing with fords is that they dont have a CKP misfire reference value stored in the computer like dodge and chevy. So if the computer was cleared recently, the computer cant develop a normal crank sensor waveform reference so the computer never sees a missfire.

  • @suggesttwo
    @suggesttwo 12 лет назад +1

    without the tool, pull the plugs for the injectors one at a time. if the engine does not slow down that is the cylinder. switch 2 coils, if the miss follows the coils it is verified. If the miss stays put check gound and driving circuits.

    What if you are a DIY person and you want to check just using a volt meter, but you don't have a scope, can you tell by the difference in the amps compared to the other 3?

  • @ghettohillbilly1
    @ghettohillbilly1 9 лет назад +2

    Heres a tip, sometimes its just the bolt that holds the coil on has become corroded, that will also cause high ground resistance but can be fixed with a quick sanding and cleanup of the grounding surface, not going to work every time but beats buying a new coil when you might have a working one, great vid, that tool makes me drool

    • @Carlitosway211
      @Carlitosway211 7 лет назад +5

      Actually quite wrong. Totally obvious you don't work on gasoline engines. Pretty much every coil ever has its own dedicated power and ground with one end being controlled by the PCM or ICM. The coil does not even have to be on the engine to fire.

    @turbobuick33 Without a scope you can throw parts at it or check it with a voltmeter

  • @tickyul

    A pc based scan tool.....yeah, some of those are good. You can actually get a lot better DSO than the Versus has for a really good price. Problem is, you are not going to get the specialized automotive database and test setup that goes with tools like the Versus. From what I have read, Owon makes a pretty good 2 channel DSO for about 700 bucks.

  • @studpuppy69
    @studpuppy69 14 лет назад +1

    @turbobuick33 He has other vids that tell you. You can swap coils, or replace with a spare till the mis stops. Or, have it scanned for codes.

    How about a 99 Yukon misfire with no code. Have replaced plugs cap & rotor. Plenty of power but after it warms up I get misfire at idle. Only one coil. Hate to throw money at guessing. Any help appreciated.

    What about a 97 model 4.6 liter Mercury engine that doesn't have coils on plugs but instead has two coils mounted on the front of the engine? Can those get weak without burning out completely. Mine engine has a misfire I can't figure out.

    What is brake torquing and how is it done?

    • @realfixesrealfast
      @realfixesrealfast  7 лет назад +1

      Brake torquing is simply "loading" up the engine without the vehicle moving. All you do is FIRMLY press on the brake, put it in gear and momentarily step on the throttle. BE SURE THE VEHICLE DOESNT MOVE This causes the engine to "load up"

    It's frustrating ... mine misfire no codes. Its like a journey to fix it.
    I suspected that mine was not a coil --- it runs perfect up to 4,500 rpm and when I opened it up, that's where I got the misfire.
    I was thinking that since I don't run my car so often, it develops water inside the tank.
    I put a bottle of HEET to dissolves the water, its getting better but still missing a bit at high speed.

    • @realfixesrealfast
      @realfixesrealfast  3 года назад

      HEET is not a fix, it simply displaces water. There are several troubling things in your description of the problem. in particular the 4500 rpm. More detailed info would be needed to offer any advice at all.

    • @zzzzzsleeping
      @zzzzzsleeping 3 года назад

      @@realfixesrealfast I've done a few preliminary troubleshooting - I drained the fuel (car was not driven a lot), I cleaned and gapped the plugs, I replaced the 02 sensor (all), replaced the map sensor, all 8 cyl firings. Gas was bad before draining it. It happens after I drained the bad fuel. My guess, the water remained in the tank and when I put 5 gallons... the car will run good under no load. When I started to boost, that's where I noticed the power was holding. I keep pouring K-100 (isopropyl) hoping the water bind to the gasoline and hoping to burn it. It gets better but i still noticed if misfire under load.
      To reach my coil and check the injector is a big task for this car because it's under the plenum if the head (lotus v8 turbo) - I was stalling to open (my last resort) the plenum and reach the coil - wires and test clean the injectors.
      I checked the fuel pressure, its within the spec.
      So, I was buying time to diagnose the easy parts but yes/no... it gets better but not quite better yet.
      Maybe its beyond water in the tank.
      Thank you for any help and idea.

    1260 misfires in minute or what ?

    • @JamesSkools
      @JamesSkools 11 лет назад +2

      no 1260 is $1260 whenever you see "$" you are looking at a hexadecimal... it is a value the computer uses to count higher with only two digits... so basically you would need to know what 1 hexadecimal = then calculate that by 1250 and that would be the amount of misses... but seriously just compare to the rest and move on lol
