Great content. My 04 Tahoe has a p0650 too. Sometimes the cel works, sometimes it doesn't. You said its a ground circuit controlled by pcm so there's no fuse right? This video can definitely help me.
PCM connections were under the fuses? Do you still feel that you cannot bidirectionally control the check engine light now that all wires are repaired?
Freakin rodents! I worked at an university in Michigan as a carpenter. The squirrels ate the wires in dozens of cooling systems on roofs costing thousands and thousands of dollars. We had to build wire cages with doors around all this equipment to stop them. Some of them were quite large and intricate. Told the boss that some bait and a couple high power pellet guns would do the same, but no. They couldn’t even poison them. I said put out the poison and tell everyone it’s for rats!

Peace!!
This is identical to the issue I had with a truck I just bought from auction...only after I found and corrected the initial multi cylinder misfire I got from the entire passenger side bank of fuel injectors stuck closed. It was like traveling down the road of neglected maintenance. First was the injectors, which cleaned it up enough to diagnose ignition issues, then the plugs and wires, then a lazy O2 sensor. Every other issue the truck had which seemed to be a repeat of finding an initial issue only to find a secondary issue. Not really a nightmare, but definitely annoying, especially troubleshooting the headlights only to find they removed every single bulb. That saved them under $20 total. Also, why does it seem to always be cylinder #6 on LQ/LS engines? What gives?
Reading the tile, I was suspecting a bad engine belt tensioner. Learned that in a Gates Belt training session at EVT recertification. Seen a couple of bad tensioners cause #6 and #8 to misfire on 5.3 GM engines. Not sure if you’ve ever ran into that Ivan.
Genius !! Now this is the input I love to see in the comments first had situations that are real not just my friends truck did blah blah blah thank you sir I couldn’t figure mine out and I just installed a mechman alternator that has a smaller pulley but have. Not yet put on a shorter belt because it seemed good after moving the tensioner down a bit it had kind of a hard spot in it but stayed down. At first start tho it tossed it off and my dumb ass was sitting there looking at it like why isn’t it charging and why’s my temp rising then notice I could still read the name on the pulley becsuse it wasn’t spinning haha it had fallen off the fan pulley. I am a lady w a multi meter checking for a parasitic Draw and I always want to look under my fuse box but I dont.
because I'm clueless w no diagram...but, a mechanic should check those areas or peak. I don't understand it..when a check engine should be on, blink or whatever. How can we not be shanked out of money at a shop? It's scary but we see that applied knowledge, investigation and good tools are the real keys for auto repair
Well thought out diag, nice job.
Looks like autolite plugs. I have generally found them to not be happy in a GM. Not sure what the magic sauce is but AC plugs seems to do the best in a GM product.
Great video! thanks for the show!
Hi Ivan , awesome vid buddy . I have the same truck and too afraid to look at mine for a mice infestation 😅😅
I always replace those wires when I replace the plugs on the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0. I never had good luck trying to reuse them.
I'm starting to suspect that Yvan is raising rodent in his spare time LOL.
The score after so many years...Mice 6, Truck 0.
Another gm design disaster. You can't design a mouse proof
fuse panel!?! And, you want $60+k for a new one...No, no, no and
HELL NO!!! Keep them all!!! Nice finish Ivan.
Little mouse had some nice small acorns. Or were those beechnuts?
Great content. My 04 Tahoe has a p0650 too. Sometimes the cel works, sometimes it doesn't. Im thinking I have a similar problem.....does the brown and white wire run from the pcm to under the fuse box & then to the cluster? You said its a ground circuit controlled by pcm so there's no fuse right? This video can definitely help me.
PCM connections were under the fuses? Do you still feel that you cannot bidirectionally control the check engine light now that all wires are repaired?

Thanks for the video!
Life is a learning curve!
Hindsight is 20-15!
Don’t laugh with the Subaru and Chevy Ivan. In India I believe the Forester was rebranded as a Chevrolet product.
Great video Ivan thanks for sharing.
Don't you just love customers who breathe down the back of your neck while your trying to diagnose their car? Tell him to go for a nature walk, I'll call you when i'm done. lol. 2008 1500 4.8 I had a p0300 but scanner showed misfire on #6 and everything checked out ok, I did put plugs in it though but still the miss was there and the cel was flashing but all the pids looked great, I checked inj. and spark with scope everything was perfect, just off idle it was fine, I even tried a new intake gasket, nothing so then I put half a can of SeaFoam in the oil and drove it about 10 miles when I pulled back into the driveway I thought the thing died it was running so smooth, no cel no misfires no nothing, crazy lifter is all i can figure.
I’m going to go install that new shorter belt rn and see what’s up thank tou
Acorns! Squirrels! That's just hilarious!! Nice diagnosis!
The dealer would tell you, That's normal.
yeah lol
I'm betting the guy went straight home and bought cheapo plug wires.
It's always number 2 what I did to mine was run a bottle of water thru vacuum hose and now runs great
I forgot it had been sitting for some time!🥴
What a nest though!😳
Lessons of the day. Rodents cause a lot of damage to cars and maintenance using good parts is important.
This is why it pays to take care of the local feral cat community or a couple if they hang around your house, a little food and water and they are the best rodent deterrents you can find, a house cat might in some cases will do the job but they can become too complacent and used to cat food where as a strictly outdoor cat is meaner. One time I had both in a little black female, she was an excellent mouser, the only thing is they want to share their kill with you and will leave you the occasional head at your door but you get used to it.
I have an 06 silverado. Runs perfectly. Check engine light has been on for years......
First thing is throw all those Autolite plugs in the trash and put some Delco plugs in it. Ha! I just typed this when you made that statement. LOL!!
15:20 that looks like a huge fire hazard. Amazing that the truck did not burn down yet. :O
And didn't blow any fuses!
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics mindblowing. Like it wanted to die. But the truck doesnt look too bad overall.
Ivan Love your channel always expect the unexpected,I have a question I know you have several scan tools, I my self have a Autel 906 ,I’ve notice you using a think pad which seems to have more capability ,would you recommend that over a launch or a Autel at that price point. Thanks in advance.
So far I have not found any better scanner than the ThinkTool Pros, especially for the price!
Pretty cool stuff, I was thinking a bad plug, 05 and there about were not great years for automotive wiring, everything was fine unless you had mice around
Textbook example why firing the parts cannon can end up being a horrific solution to the war that is auto repair. All hail General Ivan! Hahahaha. Well done yet again. A smart exterminator would give you a referral fee for all the critter evidence you run across at people’s homes.
2010 Chevy Aveo 1.6. Dead miss on accel. Engine light on but NOT for misfires, for a stupid evap vent sol. Nothing pending. #3 plug cracked. Point is do not rely on the engine computer to tell you codes on regarding misfires 100% of the time. Also in IL, they will reject any vehicle that fails the bulb test, or has that code.
Good job ! I know you’re not making the money because you told the customer that needs spark plugs and wires so that’s why the customer will do it himself and save the tuneup money .
that is why so many shops that only care about money will only say they need to do a diagnostic to find the problem @ $100 cost that can only be reduced on the repair if they do the work .. I would happily pay someone who is honest and Not greedy to do a big repair job , but will always pass on the greedy shops that won't offer any help without a money fee
@@danzare5638 I agree what you saying . But you know customer never think of you honesty ? Anything over $300 they think you’re robbing them .😯
@@badboytommy187 sad but true , but many shops are not honest , they will say a part needs replaced when it is good just to increase the fee , you can see many videos online here that they have hidden camera recording the ' service ' with the customer being charged for services that were not done .... remember Jiffy lube scandal ? Midas & Meineke and many other well known shops
Shops like that make it even harder for small shops , it takes a while to find a good one that does good work and are honest
@@danzare5638 "so many shops that only care about money" wait what? What exactly do you think mechanics are doing car repairs for? Especially with the internet and almost everything being DIY attemptable nowadays... 90% of 'customers' would just say "ok thanks" and do it themselves, if it wasn't for a diag fee.
Simple illustration , computer code gets set when the gas cap is not fully closed and seated properly , Mechanic charges $100 to scan for codes and it reveals all you need to do is retighten the gas cap …. If you would feel good about charging any money to reseat a gas cap , nothing good could be said of a person that would
Will that evap make it go into reduced engine and there is no other clothes other than that
Wowww what a beautiful peoperty
My kind of trucks right there
When in doubt always look for rodent damage! Hey at least we now know why the Check Engine light was MIA.
Many Toyota owners go by what a mechanic says "do a tune up and replace all coil packs and plug wires" NO NO NO. Just leave OEM toyota coil packs and wires alone. My friend's 03 Taco gave a misfire code (has aftermarket crappy wires). We replaced all plug wires with denso and no more misfire.
For sure OEM is best. But even OEM coil packs go bad on some Toyotas after 15 years or so.
Man, I gotta stop reading the comments before I watch the video and spoil the ending.
nice job Ivan!
Another great video.
Aren’t misfire monitors disabled at low fuel levels ??…less than 15%?
Good job I like no parts Required...
Good stuff.
I’ve got a 2003 gmc 2500hd with a misfire on cylinder 1 and 8 mainly no codes or light, I seen my bank 1 sensor 2 o2 has 0.03 mv the upstream seem fine. I know the o2 is probably bad but is that what’s causing the misfires?
Great question! How do you know that It's cylinders 1 AND 8 that are misfiring?
Autolite plugs are great for lawn mowers. I think.
Actually they're good for nothing they're made by FRAM
Yeah, Oughtolite but don’t.
Junk. Had a new set in a v twin, and had one die after only 5 minutes of use
@@whatsnewonthemountain Comment of the day, I laughed hard and im still laughing, lol, oughtalite, lol
you couldn't pay me to put them in anything but a vacuum or heater hose as a block off
When did you pick up that scar on your left arm?
Did the bulb get pulled? Can't wait to see, love your diags ivan!
Oh, the other automotive bad guy was at fault!
Another great job 👍
mouse you say, it looks to me like a squirrel infestation. I got those little boogers everywhere. Oh great job
thanks IVAN
First thing emission tester does is turn the key to see the light is not disabled which is an automatic fail
Dude I love you bits , but please why did you not solder new cables in ?
Ohhhhh theres a difference between a cable and a wire .
Still love your turn of phrase
From

Great Britain.
Pretty nice. What's the chances of mice getting the wire for the MIL?
good job
I was starting to think a fuse under the hood was bad but nope I was way off(like the pcm fuse that runs the check engine light if that fuse is bad the check engine light won’t come up on the dash when you turn the key on)
I got a good one towed in today. I was contemplating whether I should record and post. It's a 2016 dodge that stalls at a stop or decel no codes or symptoms leading up to the stall. No codes after the stall and restarts, it will drive fine until it sneaks up again. It can run fine for days or cut out 3 times in a row. The car has been to 3 shops and many parts fired at it. I alread have a good ideal on something I seen during the test drive. I really wanted to do it to plug Scannerdanner. Without that man I wouldn't own what I own. I was changing tires before I learned his teaching. Now I'm trouble shooting for other shops how crazy is that.
Cool! Did you figure it out?
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics yes, APP2 (pedal position sensor) was dropping out. I'm surprised I caught it upon the test drive. It was dropping out super fast, If you blinked you missed it. So I graphed APP1 and 2 with the scanner. then it was alot clearer APP2 was dropping like crazy. I scoped it at the gas pedal then the pcm no dropouts. It looked great on the scope. When I went to unplug the pcm is when I found the problem the connector was seized in the pcm. I finally got it free with WD and time. I cleaned up best to my ability (green crusties) and that did the trick. The thing I dont understand is how it didn't set a code. The customer did state some times it would bing the light upon stalling with a red lighting bolt and others it wouldn't. It never set a code for me and it was clearly dropping out. It looked like a failing abs sensor when you get that quick glitch. If I didn't have a scope I wouldn't of been able to pinpoint it. After I found the problem I did notice a new Throttle body plugs coils, injector MAF and the customer stated a couple other things.
@@lovetolearn5253 Interesting. Never trust scan data though, Chryslers are weird, and scan data will show a regular pulse on APP2, even though it's not real. Always trust your scope. No codes and good scope signals says to me that the problem is still hiding somewhere :)
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics unfortunately it acted up again today but this time it threw a code and the red bolt of light came on. Good thing the customers didnt pick it up yet. It actually has 3 codesp0642 sensor reference low p1618 erratic p2122 app. I'll keep you informed. I'm glad you told me about the scan data thing. Its something to keep in the back of my head
@@lovetolearn5253 excellent! Now catch the glitch with your scope 👌👍
Is that a 6.0 liter
That damn P0300 on these trucks. Can be so many stupid things. I’ve seen a bad fuel pressure regulator be the cause.
Great way to find this problem, from now on let's look for rodents. Here in the west we don't have this problem in the city. Like the video thanks 😊
Do you provide lodging for these long distance travelers? maybe build a rental ;)
They can borrow the 92 Olds Silhouette Retro Dustbuster van haha
Super vidéo 👍😀
i pick up 99 silverado and it sat for 5 years and mine was so bad i junk it well parts truck now. i pick up a 02 little mice issues.
Excellent AF!
did the MIL return after the rodent repairs?
