It's wonderful that you are there to pull together as a family through this time. We've had mild nibbles on our house so far, but we can't buy anything on the other side until things firm up here. We have our eye on at least three properties on the other side, so it's encouraging something is available once we are in a position to buy. In the meantime, most of our time is spent keeping things tidy rather than actually doing gardening, which is frustrating. Besides, I hate housework! Thanks for the update - miss you guys 🤗 ~ Sandra

Another way to hide the compost is to make a hot bed. Huws garden channel did something on it recently. I want to try it maybe I could do outside veg in the winter. Let's go...🎉🎉

@clivesconundrumgarden Yes, we have hydrophobic ancient swamp sand and clay, lol. Mostly you just need to add a lot of organic matter and get the ph tested. In our area we have to add garden lime to the soil because it's incredibly acidic, to the point that the blueberries don't mind when they get lime too, lol. Good luck on your property hunt!
@clivesconundrumgarden It depends on the space and how much organic matter you add. I find when I aggressively amend the soil, I don't need to add it annually. Especially if I'm adding wood ash because that will also help to increase the pH but given enough time the biology of the soil will shift even a raised bed to lower pH. It might take 5 years in a completely amended raised bed though. I usually use lime aggressively in a new gardening space and sprinkle it for following years just to keep things level. If you have a pH issue, just be aware that lime isn't fast acting. It's best to have it there for a few months before planting.
@DiggingForHealth cool !! The farmers round here add P, K and lime if needed in the fall. Nitrogen in spring. Totally agree with organic matter, the challenge is getting enough !! Thanks a million!!
