I'm in my thirties, and I grew up loving F1 because my family also enjoyed it. It feels like it became more... toxic the past few years?
I remember being a teen and visiting a Grand Prix weekend. It was genuinely amazing. I remember being so many different fans of different teams sitting next to each other. I can tell you what it was - 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix. Button's first win. By the time he was leaving, basically everyone DNF-ed, who had a big fanbase - Alonso, Raikonnen, Schumacher all of them DNF-ed or retired at the end, and everyone in our sector was on their feet, cheering on Button.
And these days I look at social media and "fans" harassing fans of other teams, burning other people's merch. What? Why are we here now?
Sure, toxic fans always existed. But as social media became more and more widespread, this toxicity becomes louder, but. Sheesh.
Also lmao at hating people for finding drivers attractive like James Hunt in the seventies wasn't a very well-known playboy. That part was always part of it.
Anyway, good video! I agree with you

How does James hunt being a playboy refute that some people do just like f1 because they find drivers attractive? If Charles and lando looked like massa and barricello they just wouldn't have as many fans as they do

I had the same experience a year later. My friend took me to the race in Austin in 2022, and then I tried Drive to Survive, and by the time the 2023 season started, I had kinda memorized a decent chunk of the history of the sport and I watched most sessions.
My daughter roots for Charles Leclerc because she is six and she thinks he's the antagonist in the snail racing movie Turbo.
She's pretty bored of Max's dominance though.

2:25 I have to somewhat correct you there. I am a 55 yo Dutchman and been a fan of F1 since the early 70's. I went to races all over Europe and as far as audience goes, women have always been represented. Sure, less women attend the races than men and yes, it is male dominated but women only recently getting into F1 is not the case in my experience. Way to little women drivers.... absolutely agree. I have seen Lela win that half point in Spain and I have seen Amati drive for Brbham. Did you know there has been a F1 race with two women drivers? the 1976 British GP with Lobardi and Galica
btw, my first race I attended was Zandvoort :) Groetjes uit Nederland
I love hearing the passion in your voice, I hope you get to enjoy this great sport for years to come and hopefully be able to cheer for a great female driver... and Max of course.
10:03 dang, that came unexpected. I feel I need to respond. The fact this happened in Zandvoort makes me both as F1 fan and Dutchman sick. I can only fully agree that this needs to stop I won't say "this is something from these days" because it isn't. This shit has been happening for decades. What is of these days is that we ow have platforms to soeak out. As a Dutchman, I am prone to think "complaining" helps and brings about change. The more women speak their minds, the louder the ovice becomes. As an F1 fan I think that we, as a collective at the races, should not allow it and intervene because all these harrasments tend to be done in plain view. Only together we can make things better.

I literally became a fan bc of Lando´s streams and I´ve always got so nervous arround people who knew about the sport bc I never felt at their level. Last year I was fortunate to find a group of girls who also enjoyed the sport and could talk about all the techy stuff without having to look after any mistake I made when talking about it.

I’m a pretty old school man as well as F1 fan. However I really enjoyed this video because I can tell by the way you talk about the sport that you’re a genuine fan. Also your explanation of Leclerc was spot on. I like him for his demeanor and lighting fast lap times. My daughter however likes him because he’s handsome 😂

I feel like Drive to Survive makes f1 more accessible to us f1 fans in the US. It also humanizes the drivers and shows you their personalities.

DtS made everyone other than Ricciardo, Leclerc, Gasly, Albon and Perez look like dickheads

@@thebateman761 I didn’t say they always did a good job with it. But I think especially with Max Verstappen. They really didn’t do him any justice.
