I always believed Barty was not evil ofc when he was at hogwarts, he was chaotic but not sadist. His dad's lack of attention and the mental abuse took a toll on him ofc but also as the war began he became more and more unsable. Regulus' death broke Barty and Evan, then Dorcas died and finally Evan's death killed some human part left in Barty. After that Barty was just mental and how we know him from the books. I'm not trying to justify what he did to the longbottoms, h did what he did. I hc this to be the reson he endsup doing fucked up things. Also noncannon Barty is personification of babygirl and a freaking icon

I’m so glad you brought up the Barty/Snape discourse because that was the part putting me off the longest. I’m not, and have never been, a Snape stan for the reasons that you mentioned. So for a long while I thought, then why would I like Barty, who was easily worse? Sometimes that still bothers me a bit. The fact that I can’t justify it well. But at the end of the day, it’s really not that serious. This is a sub-fandom of a fandom based on people who wave wands around. As long as no one is attacking or hurting others over it, let people just like what they like. I’ve decided, for my own health, not to worry about it too much, because it’s just not that deep.
