Hey Adam, Up in BC we will often run the dodger/flasher off the downrigger with the release clip on the dodger. This gives you the action from the dodger, but when you get a take it's just you and your fish; you're not fighting your gear. a big plus with barbless hooks, not to mention the fact that there's no question when you get bite! When you fight a fish with the dodger in play, the dodger can help your fish throw the hook.
It's basically the same release Adam's using. You rig the flasher (or dodger) to the canon ball with about a 6 - 8 foot leader. this can be as heavy as you like. The release you normally see attached to the downrigger line is then attached to the trailing end of the flasher. The flasher is able to move and impart action and attraction to the bait. We find chinnook (kings) like a longer leader; the coho like it shorter. When a fish hits, the flasher stays with your weight and you have a direct line to the fish. The additional plus for someone like Adam, fishing from a limited space like a kayak is the fact you can bring the fish a lot closer to the boat for netting because there's no hardware to hang up at the rod tip. I'd love to say I thought it up by myself, but I was told about it by a guy who's picture regularly appeared at the marina with 30lbs plus fish. I had the good fortune to work with him for a while and got a couple of tips.... I loved this one. The fight's a lot more fun when the fish isn't dragging the dodger around!
So cool watching this.. love the thrill of it, I personally catch thousands (pinks not kings) at a time commercially up in alaska but there’s nothing like getting one up on a hook and reel!
I believe commercial fisherman trolling have right of way. A bit hard for them to move with six lines dragging 60# balls and hooks every 9’. Much respect for you on the Hobie!
Dang! That auto pilot turns on a dime! 🙀cool to see that fiasco play out in the best possible scenario! Can’t make that stuff up! At least you didn’t lose the flasher. 😆
Awesome Fishing!!🤙🏽 Is this the Moss Landing area in the Monterey Bay? I get flashbacks of the Two PG& E stacks in your background. A lot of Family and Friends adventures out there.
Any info on that halibut pic that you have hanging on the wall? Was it done by a local company/artist? I would love to have something like that done for a few fish.
geez those commercial guys straight up screwed you over... i would've cut their lines when i went over to their boat rather than un tangling them. good on you brotha!
Do the tails still need to be clipped on sport caught salmon? Just curious because I noticed you don't clip yours, and I wasn't sure if you were catching them sport or commercially. Years ago I got a ticket after catching a salmon and not clipping the tail before I put it in the box. Warden watched me put it in the box from a distance and drove out just to write me the ticket.
Is this the Moss Landing area in the Monterey Bay? I grew up in the area and the stacks in the background got me flashbacks of the fishing days there. Fish on!
What an accomplishment to get a limit of chrome from a kayak amidst all the big boats. Be careful, think about what you would do as a contingency if you downrigger cable got hung up with something like someone else’s cable or gear and you are getting pulled over. Just thinking about your safety because I enjoy your vids
i mean he isn't a idiot....it is expensive but a downrigger is worth more than your life....he would toss it and anything else he needed too...pole, downrigger....whatever. it would be a viral video and make everything he lost back in views/merch
Sheet!! Adam you PR limited after a long adventurous day. Amazing how crowded a bay or the entire ocean can be at times. Almost like the ultimate close/"combat" fishing experience in the Kenai River AK for Reds (get your fish in quick so I can put my line back in the water to so I can re-start fishing. You are an dedicated fisher. But I wonder how many hours did you spend doing this video from home to home?
okay maybe I don't understand it...all that water why are yall even close to each other (kayaks and larger commercial boats)...otherwise good stuff on both yalls parts no one getting excited etc...

Who makes that by chance. The release on the flasher

Thanks for the tip! I have heard of that but haven't tried it yet! I'll have to give it a shot this year!
Its called good day fishing quick release

That second fish swam up to the canoe to check out who was in it then panic'd when he saw Adam the Salmon Slayer.

Yeah the autopilot was a game changer!
Beautiful fish bro good job 👍👍👍
Capitola Halibut finally arrived with Yak anglers getting some quality fish . Seacliff area wise shark park is back ,
any decent areas to possibly hit them from shore down there right now? Wanted to take my nephew down there this weekend
@@cynematek Santa Cruz boardwalk pier has Halibut but its pot luck day to day action .
ITS A DEEP BURN.
you are the man - watching you fish say's a thousand words - Great Job
I appreciate that!
Foggy like that in a kayak is a death wish
Awesome! Congrats on the limit!
Hi, where is salmon season open in California? Is Santa Cruz open?
Nice job Adam, always enjoy your 🎣 videos, keep it up 👍
Glad you like them!
Wow... it was like rush hour traffic out there but glad you were able to catch those nice salmon.! 🐟🐟🐟🐟
Nice catch, that first one especially. Thanks for sharing your experience Adam. ✌🏻🎣
Thanks for watching!
Nice work Adam, like how you stuck wit it without freaking out.
Thanks 👍
You need a long pole with a flashing light visible at all times and conditions.
He used to use a orange flag after he got hit by a boat. Not sure why he stopped
Awesome Fishing!!🤙🏽

I would love to have something like that done for a few fish.
Yeah my buddy Nick Fish made that for me. You can check him out on youtube!
That fish looks so good...love salmon.
Did you hear about the time that a commercial boat got hooked up with a commercial kayaker?
lol
I have to say that was pretty cool for a boat around here in Humboldt County California there mean but shxt happens
iv have fished from the piers here an had commercial boats pull up an break my line
Always an adventure out there!
Was that Moss Landing?
Love the video. Is salmon open in the san francisco bay? Or just ocean?
Aye man nice catch where did you launch from
Right on no mothership! Glad you’re out that far with Mr E
Hey Adam how do you like your old town kayak? How long does your batteries last what kind of battery do you have.
Do you think the orange is better on the ocean than the blue for visibility?
You can keep native salmon? (non clipped fin)
Nice save on the part of you and the commercial boat Adam! Could have been worse.
Hi Adam you are fishing in moss landing that's my backyard bro!!! Awesome fishing salmon fishing day!!!
All of that ocean and a commercial boat has to come that close to kayakers fishing.
geez those commercial guys straight up screwed you over... i would've cut their lines when i went over to their boat rather than un tangling them. good on you brotha!

Theres no need to clip the tail in the area I am fishing.
Do you have a radar deflector
Highly doubt any kayak would ever have a radar deflector
So was this before the season break or down south? Heard the numbers were really good this year!
A mad house out there.
Is this the Moss Landing area in the Monterey Bay? I grew up in the area and the stacks in the background got me flashbacks of the fishing days there. Fish on!
Do the flashers really make a difference with your catch rate?
Yes they do
Fish will come look at the flasher and see the bait yes it definitely helps
I believe it does
Nice chunky fish, Adam!
I added dodger break aways to my dodgers. So that way when i reel in i dont fight the dodger and the fish. They work great.
Its called good day fishing quick release
Big fish - Big smile! 😁 Nice job Adam.
Salmon on a Kayak hell yea adam!
At least you didn't lose your flasher. Hey, that's a good suggestion below.
14 mins was amazing!
Did you give that flasher back to the fisherman?
What's propelling your kayak?
Congrats on the keeper but what a mess out there.
Where did go fishing?
so much better than farmed!! i can smell the ocean from here !!!!!
Nice work. Are you selling these too? How was the first market? Tight lines
You have a lot of patience man. Other guys would be cursing to say the least. 👍
How did the fish sale go at the Farmers Market?
Did you tow enseai out?
Have you ever tried a flasher release system?

I heard that someone caught one 200 yards from the jetty. nice Adam.
Nice catch dude'💪💪💪
Good fishing, love when you get limits!
Me too!
Nice fish, hopefully we get out on the kayaks and kill some salmon soon.
Adam can freaking fish!!

It was a fun day! Took about 6 hours of fishing time.
Nice Adam
Salute y'all 🎣
YOU are a commercial fishing boat now as well lol
Looks dangerous to be out in a kayak in the fog! That salmon looks great for eating!!
Definitely need the proper safety gear
You should try ventriloquist lol
At least those guys were cool!
while hooked up to a fish trying to get out of the way yeah
Good job bro, im also in Cali. By far you're the best outta the norcal youtubers. BUt don't forget about the freshwater kokanee salmon as well
Humboldt fishing is good also.
From what I can tell that one you lost burned !! If you fish long enough you'll get that chance again
You need real salmon reeels for trolling
Excitement a plenty. Lol.
Adam can’t you catch more than two since you got your commercial license?.. Another good video bro.
Commercia license is only for certain fish, he got his license for halibut
There's a dead give away as to your location in the background there!
Where?
@@richmartin7738 Moss Landing generating station stacks...

Beautiful…
That second fish most probably was in the mouth of a seal buddy

You’re just a mosquito in the fleet. Best you just cut your line.

Hey Adam I live in tacoma wa and work for harbor herrring can you take me out fishing I can give you as much free bait as u want
okay maybe I don't understand it...all that water why are yall even close to each other (kayaks and larger commercial boats)...otherwise good stuff on both yalls parts no one getting excited etc...
An entire ocean and tangles? Just sayin!
Those guys were cool. Kinda shitty on your part to portray them negatively in your video title.
