    This is quite early, but I'd love to see a summer take on this when that approaches. I always find it much harder when I can't layer as much, I am restricted to summer pieces/silhouettes, or I feel like I look disheveled from being hot and sweaty. So many of these tips are year-round great advice, of course, but I'd love your take on summer-specific advice too. 😊

    Audrey, a sincere thanks for the videos. They've helped me make better purchases and nowadays packing for trip or a business seminar takes much less effort. No more panic purchases or buying something just because it's in my size - which is *not* petite or sizes 6 thru 10. A recent trip to Seoul for a week fit into a carryon easily; my hosts were kind enough to comment on one outfit that followed your guidelines: good fit & the best quality I could afford for a pair of off-white wide leg pants, black cashmere sweater & a black Bernardo puffer with beige boots and bag. A Samsung gear watch plus a pair of diamond studs finished my go-to outfit. The cool thing that happened was this: I wore my clothes - they didn't wear *me*! No tugging, squirming or constant mirror checks!

    Another thing to keep in mind is that elegance is in large part dependent on context. In some environments, it is more appropriate to dress casually, and it is definitely possible to be elegant in a pair of jeans if they're the appropriate attire 😊

    • @mariabarnes9197
      @mariabarnes9197 Год назад +2

      What you've said is so true-- context is everything. So many content creators & influencers have focused on denim or jeans--almost exclusively until this recent trouser trend arrived-- so it's kind of refreshing to see something else.

    • @teresacarle294
      @teresacarle294 Год назад +3

      😉Excellent point about context. The truth is Audrey is an elegant woman. She looks beautifully elegant in jeans, esp. with her modern version of the twinset & sling-back pumps. She just happens to look exponentially more elegant in the matching beige trousers. She is ideally suited to giving lessons on elegance.
      As someone who hasn't worn jeans since the 90s, it does seem like influencers focus on wearing them a lot🤣. It's lovely to see an abundance of true timeless trousers enter the equation as well as hit the market 🛒.
      Have a preponderance of tapered legs😢, & a handful of straight legs. Would love to find some slightly wider leg classic trousers in my💲price bracket that fit my "X" waist to hip proportion. It's like the holy grail...
      😊💭Dream about an elegant higher waisted dark smoky gray pleated wide leg. 🤍Love a good pocket that can actually hold a mobile📲, but the reality is most can't keep my lipstick💄or a few coins from spilling out everytime I sit down😫. Plus, pockets add visual bulk ↔️ to my frame😔, I might as well put on a sign ⚠️Wide Load.
      It doesn't help that my behind is flat. It's tricky to avoid trousers that highlight a saggy bottom🥺. That's another reason why skirts suit me better. They typically skim nicely over my problem area👍.

    Audrey, these are great tips but if I could give one tip it would be to keep the consistency between non-elegant vs elegant examples on the same side. The information about casual versus more elegant clothing choices is much needed education at this point. Years ago, people knew this information and generally upheld it. But sadly, our society has been seriously struggling since 3019 in regards to proper attire. I appreciate that you started at the basics for these people. Sneakers and jeans are not elegant. I work as a teacher and what previously was labeled “occasional casual Friday” attire is now standard daily attire for most teachers. It’s sad.

    Been a silent sub for a while, I'm really new to fashion despite being I'm my early 20s; I don't wear make up, I can't stand it, how I can I look "fresh"? Also any suggestions to shoes that look elegant but are really practical? I'm not a big fan of flats and I dislike high heels, I don't mind trousers instead of jeans once in a while, but I still want this put together look. and I wear my fitness watch 24/7 and don't want to take it off as it measures my heartrate which I need access to at all times for personal reasons, is there a way to look elegant with it? I only wear a dainty gold necklace I don't like bold jewelry, it seems like despite wanting to be elegant it seems like I wont ever achieve being elegant... also how do I pick sunglasses that make me look chic?

    • @womanofacertainage5892
      @womanofacertainage5892 Год назад +1

      Hi! I'm not Audrey, of course, but I know someone with a fitness watch and she bought a different band for it on Amazon. Maybe get a lovely lighter colored band for it? What don't you like about flats? Maybe a small wedge would feel better? Dainty gold jewelry also looks elegant so I'd carry on with that. Do you carry a purse or handbag or even a backpack? If yes, I'd get a really nice one -- doesn't have to cost a lot, but one that looks higher-end, high-quality. Even places like Target have some higher-end looking ones. They won't last a long time but for $20 or $30, they will last a year or two. Tying a colorful and beautiful scarf to your handbag, like Audrey does in the black outfit in this video, will also look nice.
      Even if you hate makeup, could you do a tinted sunscreen (which we should all wear every day anyway) and a light finishing powder, and a lip balm? There are nice tinted lip balms and glosses out there, too, that keep your lips from getting chapped and aren't darkly colored. One of my favorite lip glosses or balms lately is from Naturium - they have a clear one that just makes the lips look polished, but there's no color. You'll find what works for you! :)

      @@womanofacertainage5892 Thank you for your kind reply, I live in Europe so I don't really know what a target is, but thank you for the tip I will certainly look for that its a good idea. my watch is garmin vivofit 5 I believe so there's not really a band I can buy, I have the black one as I don't like the other colours. I don't really like flats because I can't run well in them and it feels like I'm barefoot and that poses a sensory issue to me on certain surfaces. I usually am barefoot in my home but I don't like certain surfaces outside. I don't like heels at all so I don't think wedges are a good fit for me. I do enjoy tinted lip balm, my favourite is cherry red by either labello or nivea I want to get my hands on the blackberry but its hard to get. due to sensitive skin I require specific sunscreen so I'm afraid that rules out tinted ones. unfortunately I have a lot of "issues" going on with myself so its extremely difficult for me to be able to achieve the life that I want which includes an elegant style. thank you very much for your reply I will definitely look for a chic handbag or elegant backpack

There are many brands of shoes -- which look good, & are for people who have sensitivities. You may be able to run in them. However, running in shoes not meant for running eventually ruins the shape etc. Best to you as you experiment to determine what new things will work for you to achieve the elegant look you desire.

      Sadly, sometimes style & comfort (i.e., practicality) are often on opposite sides ↔️ of this spectrum🤣. For decades I tottered around in high heels👠, suffering in the name of beauty. Getting blisters & all manners of foot complaints😖. If you go that route, you simply gotta suck it up. It's certainly NOT elegant to be in pain, but complaining about your footwear is even worse🙄.
      🤔Now,🚶‍♀️walkability is important, esp. if you cross different surfaces like cobblestones. In a city jammed with 🚙cars🚚, I'm taking 🚍public transportation🚇. I must be able to stride quickly to catch connections &/or escape from suspicious 👥️️ characters. Plus, there's a lot of standing around & waiting. Flats are a necessity.
      Ideally to prevent blistering, I need to be able to slip on a "naked sock" so it doesn't show. That limits me to loafers, ballerina flats, boots, or sneakers. For special occasions, I might pack a pair of flat sling-backs (the one that looks more like a pump in front w/a single strap that goes around the back of the foot) in a shoe bag to swap 🔁 once I get to my final destination.
      I also wear a discreet crossbody bag for id,💲cash/💳, phone📲, key🔑, & lipstick💄. And, carry a large handbag, a zippered tote, or backpack 🎒 to match outfit for seasonal essentials like sunscreen, jacket, compact umbrella, a book or a small note pad, laptop, etc. If at all possible, my preference is to be hands✋️free in case I need to dash quickly or defend myself.
      😉Elegance is challenging, but not impossible. It leans on a formality, color cohesion, neutrals (usually all light or dark shades, but it can be a mix), subtle pops of color, slim & sleek silhouettes, refined details, & more delicate jewelry. It certainly suits someone like 🤩Audrey with fine features & a softly feminine persona.
      Maybe you can't copy her or be such a purist, but you can still be inspired by her. Incorporate the qualities of elegance that speak to you.
      Of course, it's possible to be classic & timeless with more theatricality (say Trinny Woodall) or glamour (say Alyssa Beltempo). It's a good idea to check out Pinterest or other stylists to help define & refine what appeals you you & works for your lifestyle.
      Experimentation is good. Go to a department store, boutique, etc. to try on different apparel. Snap a photo 📷 of yourself in the dressing room. That way you can reassess once you're in the comfort of your own home🏡
      Know he's a man ♂️, but 👑Prince William🇬🇧 epitomizes elegance. He wears two watches. A sentimental⌚️watch & some sort of fit 🏃‍♂️watch. Sometimes you simply have to be maverick & set your own trends.

    ....I've been wondering about something, with trousers and jeans .....Why are they so SHORT ?? Don't even reach the ankles,...which to me looks weird and like the trousers are not long enough to meet the shoe. I have never understood this .... I was taught that trouser length is important, as to not make the trousers look as though they were made for a shorter person. ...these " too short in length " trousers and jeans don't say " Elegance ", to me.

    Sorry, I respectfully have to disagree…to me it does not sound like you are giving tips to be more ‘elegant’ but just more ‘dressy’. I believe that a woman can wear jeans or sneakers and not match all accessories etc. And still wear them in an elegant way And make an elegant outfit. I like how Mrs. Midwest address feminine and elegant style. She explains how many different personal styles ( even ‘casual’) can still be feminine and elegant.
