    I'm so glad Dice is apparently over the hump and on his way to full recovery.
    Just as an update, Rhubarb my wonky pig that I mentioned a month-or-so ago is now fully recovered and no longer wonky. His cage-mate Nightshade however suddenly became very unsteady on his feet a couple of weeks ago. He was very much like Dice but he's been on Baytril for what was apparently a deep ear infection and is now recovering slowly. He's still unsteady but both he and Rhubarb have both maintained a healthy appetite and pooping throughout. Nightshade has even returned to his natural weight so I'm confident I just have to be patient for him to get back to normal.
    Darned piggies sure know how to give their humans stress!

      My piggy had a urine test done for her dark urine and it showed bacteria growth so she was put on azithromycin. Normal appetite and poop on day 2 of medicine we noticed she was limping then went to wobbly and not wanting to walk much. We brought food to her and we stop meds. Half a day later she was up moving around getting food and water but not going for long. I'm wondering if the meds were fighting the infection and caused that reaction and I should started back.

    • @avaggdu1
      @avaggdu1 Год назад

      @@danibrawner3989 You should always finish the course of antibiotics, even if your piggy seems to have recovered. If she's lethargic it's probably a sign she's still feeling unwell. I hope she's back to full health soon.

    Several of my piggies have E.cuniculi, periodically this happens. I even have a recent video of me teaching Delilah how to walk again after losing all mobility. Its certainly a journey to live with, but luckily once you get the hang of it, it's easy to quickly stabilise them. I always have panacur on hand for immediate use when any neurological signs appear.

    • @eriathwen1320
      @eriathwen1320 Год назад +1

      Oh and if it helps, while it does help with pain, meloxicam with E.cuniculi is vital for reducing the inflammation caused by the lesions formed by E.cuniculi, lesions in the brain can leave permenant neurological damage and head tilts. So even if piggy doesn't appear to be in pain, get that meloxicam into them as well!

    My girl Nezzie had similar issues but didn't make it. I just couldn't find a good vet like yours to help her. I wish I had vets like yours, they clearly know what to do. The vets in my area all specialize in dogs and cats. I lost my baby but still I wonder if I had a vet like yours would she still alive. Not blaming the vets or anyone. If anything it's my fault I couldn't find her a vet like you Scott. They gave your guinea pigs all kinds of treatments. All the other vets wanted to just put my Nezzie down.

    I love your channel. My daughter bought a Guinea pig from petsmart. And he's not doing good and we woke up this morning and he's not walking. We live in eucl at Ohio and there's not a good vet here. Andidn't know skinny pigs. So we made a emergency appointment with her other Guinea. But my daughter's Guinea pig Doctor. And she's gonna take a minute there tomorrow morning. But can you think of anything might have happened to him overnight that why he's not walking this morning. His back legs are not moving, but he's happy and everything but he can't walk. So we have to wait till the morning to take him to the veterinarian. And. I'm glad your Guinea pig is doing very good and I'm gonna tell my daughter not to buy. Guinea pig from petsmart and goes some place else. But we have to find some places to buy her another Guinea pig. In case this one doesn't make it and she's so upset. So we don't know what to do. But we'll fill you in tomorrow after we come back from the vet

    Hey @Scotty! Its been a while & great to see you thriving. I've seen a lot in 4 decades of pigs but his case is a tough one as it has a few dif issues. I guessing minor stroke and with the tooth issue it could be the reason for the stroke as my one experience with tooth root infection was it was caught late and nothing could stop it. Battled for 2? months but the infection went to the brain causing pig to have confusion like standing in one spot, going where am I? In a week or so she started convulsing that sadly, lasted for 24 hours before she passed. Remember cukes are very watery so maybe a small peel only is ok. Again, this is a very mysterious case so best of luck to you.

  • @AnimeShinigami13
    @AnimeShinigami13 Год назад

    I could see grape popcorning.
    you know when my late guinea pig's cage mate died, my cat kept her company. I'm poor and I'm on the spectrum and I have depression and anxiety. advanced animal care is hard for me. when B'lanna died I was pretty wrekt inside. my inexperience in how to treat her when she did get sick definately contributed to her death. i followed the vet instructions but I don't think the advice given was enough and I don't think she could swallow because she wouldn't take critical care. My cat Bandit would sit by Tribble's cage after that. Tribble would walk over and stand next to him. He'd reach in with a paw and poke Tribble and Tribble would start making excited noises and running around her cage in circles. Then she'd stop next to him, rinse repeat. Tribble eventually died from sickness too. I'm on food stamps and so when they come in it represents about a two day blind spot for me where I'm too under stress to do more than change food and water because the groceries have to come in. I have to take the bus to do the shopping, which takes all day. So I didn't notice she was sick until Bandit alerted me after unpacking groceries. Tribble went quick, even if I had had the money to go to a vet I wouldn't have had the time. I literally picked her up and she died in my hands. I just cried. I composted her alfalfa pellets and remaining hay. Tribble and B'lanna fought for dominence on a regular basis and they had to be in two seperate cages because of that. I put them side by side so they could "talk" to each other through the bars and that worked. But they never truly got along after a point.
    you need to account for stress in a way that works for you when it comes to pet care. especially if you have mental health issues. i wonder what would have happened if I'd stopped to check on Tribble before leaving the apartment that day. would I have seen her sick and not gone? could I have done something?
    as for Dice. I myself have had both tooth and intestinal problems. The latter due to a chronic condition. And being an amateur mushroom hunter, (mostly for photographs) I know something of fungi. Tooth issues in humans are pretty chronic when they've really set in. I spent over a decade trying to fix bad tooth care habits myself. I've had like four root canals and according to the doctor I'm probably going to need another for a broken tooth. Its a lot harder on a human system than it looks, I can imagine how it would be on a guinea pig. And intestinal problems can leave you horribly malnourished and dehydrated. I've gotten a cold sweat from intestinal pains before. Its REALLY bad. You need water and you definately need electrolytes. If all you do is hydrate, it can actually make things worse. you also need sugars and salts (and again, I qualify this for humans, not piggies). If you look at the history of cholera, you realize just how not a joke diarhea actually IS.
    and fungal infections are enough for HUMANS to be hospitalized. fungal cells are close enough to human ones that antifungal drugs can cause SERIOUS issues in humans and animals. the fact that this disease got reclassified as fungal is actually a BAD thing. not a good one. animals are HORRIBLE at fighting off parasites, but they're even worse at fighting fungal infections. and in this case I'm wondering if taking antibiotics in such an amount contributed to Dice's current problems. surely there's a probiotic for guinea pigs?

    Head tilt can be so distressing to see. Praying that it is that as it is reversible if caught in time ❤❤

    I’ve used Panacur for head tilt in one of past bunnies. Vet thought that the parasite was brought in on my footwear as my bun was a house bunny that never wanted to go out. He was fine after treatment. He was unable to walk and was sliding all over the place on the floor.

    My Emrys was just over 4 months old when he had sudden onset paralysis that had been accompanied with not eating. The vets here think it was something genetic. I, unfortunately, lost my beautiful baby boy so 2023 started out pretty crappy. They have no idea what caused it.
