    As a Saints fan who went to Green Bay to watch my Saints play the Packers in the Packers’ home opener last year, I was very impressed with the atmosphere that surrounds Lambeau Field. I never felt so outnumbered at any game that my Saints played in, but Packers fans were all in all good people, and even though my Saints lost, I still had a good time, and I don’t think Lambeau should ever be replaced. Continue upgrading it, as they have to, but don’t replace it.

    Changing out all the bleachers for seats would reduce the capacity. You can fit more people in when it's bleachers. They would almost have to add an upper deck to the other side to compensate for the reduced capacity if they swapped out the bleachers for seats. They certainly won't reduce capacity from what they currently have, so gotta find those extra seats somewhere.

    • @chriskay1449
      @chriskay1449 5 месяцев назад +7

      Also you cannot simply take out the bleachers and put seats in. The seating bowl bleachers were built before the passing of "The American's With Disabilities Act" which mean they were exempt from the law. If they tear out the bleachers they have to rebuild the entire seating bowl since it would have to be brought up to compliance with the ADA. In other words, Not going to happen and renders capacity argument null and void.

    They’re not going to replace the backless bench seating.
    Every game since 1960 has been sold out to season ticket holders. The estimated wait for season tickets is 30+ years. If they replace the benches that would mean roughly 10k-15k season ticket holders would be forced to give them up over something they’re not really complaining about, which leads me to my next point.
    While yes they aren’t the most comfortable, and the ones in the original lower bowl can feel really cramped (especially in the winter). It’s really something I’ve never heard many Packers fans complaining about, visiting fans yes, but Packers fans seem to understand it’s the small price to pay to be season ticket holders.

    The last year the Packers split time in Milwaukee in 1994 Lambeau had a capacity of 58,000 and County Stadium in Milwaukee had 56,000. Today Lambeau Field has a seating capacity in excess of 81,000 and is the second largest Stadium other than Metlife in East Rutherford New Jersey. Truly amazing. I don't think seats will ever be added as it would eliminate too much seating capacity. This debate was held before the big renovation in 2002-2003 and the bleacher argument won out. Super Bowl is an impossibility as the Green Bay/Appleton area does not have nearly enough hotel rooms. The NFL Draft is coming in 2025.

    I don’t think they should take out the bleachers. It’s part of the charm. Also, they nearly hosted a World Cup game in 2026 but the width of the field couldn’t be engineered to meet the FIFA requirements, I believe it was super close, so they were eliminated from contention. The field has hosted an international club friendly soccer however, Bayern Munich and Manchester City played a few years ago. Those are was big of soccer clubs as there is. I saw Paul McCartney there a few years ago and it was incredible. Way better acoustics than Camp Randall and Soldier Field; the way the bowl is, the echo dissipated upwards if you have the upper deck behind the stage like they did that day it really sounds amazing for a stadium concert. Just a world class place for infinite reasons!

    Once upon a time, almost every NFL team played in either an MLB stadium, or a large stadium built for the Olympics or college football. Green Bay was an exception because the city was too small for major league baseball---but even the Packers would play some games at the Braves new ballbark in Milwaukee. Lambeau Field was the first major stadium built exclusively for an NFL tenant, and eventually it set the standard for every other NFL stadium.

  • @WillWatchAnything

    Having a Superbowl in Green Bay is not logistically possible because there’s far from enough hotel space in the surrounding area. And replacing the bleachers with seating would take away a big part of the stadium’s charm and might actually reduce its capacity.

    Part of the lore of Lambeau Field is that it came online at a time when very few teams had "football only" stadiums. Most shared baseball parks, which makes football watching difficult. Lambeau was a bowl stadium designed specifically for football, modeled after classic football stadiums like the Yale Bowl. Now it looks more like Ebbets Field, but still has great football site lines.

      They tried that in 1922. It’s enough of a challenge to keep the Da Bears relevant around Chicagoland if you crave a decent team to cheer for. Why should you granted an exemption from what fans in Michigan and Minnesota have to do to be Packer fans? Not our fault Papa Bear was the only competent owner Da Bears ever had.
