Notice how after he gets the dust in his eyes, he catches the first kick from Li instinctually. The ability was a part of him all along, he just needed to remember it to use it consciously. This has philosophical meaning in many areas of life, for example why some people experience beginner's luck or perform poorly when under scrutiny. That's the kind of detail that separates this movie from copycats. Also that moving camera shot at 7:17 is epic.
