  • Olaf is one of the most known characters in modern disney, enough where he is found annoying by many these days, where the problem comes directly from disney milking him to the fullest potential.

Olaf in the first film was a good character. He helped remind Elsa and Anna of their childhood friendship and helped Anna understand love, (and I love his "And who's the Reindeer?" joke.)
But I agree that he was overmarketed after that point. So was Frozen in general TBH. I went to Disney World in 2014 and it was EVERYWHERE. So I can understand why people started to dislike him.
I still think a "Frozen: The Series" would be awesome though.

  • @blistlelo1700
    @blistlelo1700 8 месяцев назад +58

I like the idea of Olaf being a walking metafor for the sister's lost innocent childhood sisterhood but I really wish his role as representing that was more stronger where he helps the two sisters together as well as himself to grow and mature as characters throughout the story.
It kinda reminds me of Bing Bong representing Riley's innocent childhood wonder except Olaf don't maybe need to die. He himself and the sisters could still express frustration and depression of growing up and cause trouble for each other while Olaf still tries to remind them that they still need each other and cheer them up even during thought times.
He could maybe naive in the beginning where he's too eager to return to the cheerful childhood past but realize that sometimes life changes and you need to let some things go such as maturity but that still doesn't stop cheerfulness and optimism fully and can still maintain strong bond between the sisters, similar to a parent finally accepting their children are growing up.
Although the movie didn't have time to explore that since the sisters mostly spending time apart from each other, Olaf could still be the messanger representing Elsa's wish for things to be like in the past with Anna. He could also explore his own identity as his own individual not always relying between the sisters and becomes more indirect representation of their modern bond as adults.

I've rarely enjoy the comical animal/animated-creature sidekick in movies. I understand they exist more to lighten the mood and explain certain plot points to kids, but they rarely do more than that. They rarely play an actual needed role that couldn't be done by someone else. So, I don't tend to like them personally.
(That said, Morph in Treasure Planet is really enjoyable to me, since he can't talk to take too much time away from the main movie, and actually adds to the plot in important ways - like that scene where it is split between Silver and Jim, or disguises itself as the map orb to fool people. I similarly enjoyed Hei Hei in Moana, because his comic relief actually came off as funny to me since he's just a simple chicken doing chicken things. I guess these characters work better for me when they can't talk, don't act exceedingly dumb for little, no, or bad reasons, and their scenes are very short.)
When it came to Frozen and Olaf, he annoyed me in the first film as much as any of these types of characters would. Where I didn't particularly like him, but was able to brush it aside because I'm sure kids and other people would - just not my flavour. But in the second movie? I hated him. He took way too much time for his own shenanigans that didn't matter at all to the main plot. It deviates entirely from the point of these characters in the first place. Every time the screen went back to him I was mentally sighing, knowing that it was cutting time from the actual plot going on.

Finally someone who gets it ahha... Although I can also pick out other examples of comic relief characters done well. For example, I think Perrito in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was great. But he was also a bona fide character with an important role other than comic relief. I think the problem is when they draw too much undeserved screentime without contributing to the plot, and secondly, when they are tone deaf and don't play into the mood of the scene (undermining scenes that would have been meaningful and emotional with unwanted jokes)

Olaf was just a thing that work for ONE Film, surprisingly well......but as always Disney can't help themselves and ruin their lucky, very LUCKY 1 hit and make the character extremely annoying after in every thing he shows up.....what really weird me is that....the popularity of FROZEN is always been tie to ANNA AND ELSA not Olaf.....you would think they would like to explore the sisters more but they choose to over use the annoying sidekick, that was by luck likable enough in the first film, by chance, and they assume was the best thing they could market about the film? That never have make sense to me.....yes this with Timon and Pumba, Genie, heck even Sebastian and Flounder makes sense, but OLAF? in my opinion is one of the worst things and wrong lessons they learned about the success of Frozen, and I fear what we will get in Frozen 3....at this point I would not be surprise if Disney make the film all about Olaf.......uaghhk that thought is making me sick just to think could be possible.

Olaf just radiates Disneys need to financially capitalize on their IP. They have had other characters that have either gotten better reactions or deserve more recognition. The demand for Olaf products really wasn’t that great when the film came out and hasn’t increased since. Other characters like Stitch have more love and characters like morph from treasure planet are hidden and have no merch or specials. He isn’t a phenomenal side character, he is kinda meh. Disney side characters have to be at least one of a few things. Cute, his design is just not, and his nearly realistic eyes always seemed like a bad design choice, an animal (doesn’t really fall into that category), funny (sorry he just never stuck out to me and his jokes were kind of dry), smart (most past sidekicks have saved or significantly helped the heroes, I can’t think of a time he had. He had tried and wasn’t tying them down, he was just there). He kinda just does a whole lot of nothing. Also justice for Josh Gad, the voice actor, because he only received a couple thousand for voicing him despite the film grossing over a billion dollars and Disney profiting endlessly off this character

I remember when Coco came out, the simple fact that Disney snuck in a 20 minute bore fest of Frozen to force feed it into the unsuspecting audience is what actually made me hate the franchise, because as bad as it was before, not only was that annoying and for some Mexicans even insulting, it was a sign of how much worse it would get

I've never been a fan of Olaf or Josh Gad. I admit he does at least serve a purpose in the first film, but I never found him to be likeable or funny. And he gets much worse as Disney tried to make as much "marketable" Olaf content as possible. I had no idea they released a 20 minute Olaf short ahead of Coco. That's practically sabotage imo. I didn't see Coco in theaters, but I would've been tempted to walk out if that happened to me.
As far as Disney's roster of comic relief side characters go, I would rank Olaf to be worse than B.E.N. from Treasure Planet. I think Martin Short is a better comedian than Gad. And while B.E.N. was obnoxious as well, I thought he was funnier than Olaf.

Princess Fiona will need help from their new friends which are all the Official Disney Princes and all the Official Disney Princesses, as Prince Florian, Princess Snow White, Prince Charming, Princess Cinderella, Prince Philip, Princess Aurora, Prince Eric, Princess Ariel, Prince Adam, Princess Belle, Prince Aladdín, Princess Jasmine, Prince John Smith, Princess Pocahontas, Prince Li Shang, that she is not a true Official Disney Princess along with Namaari, Cassandra and Anastasia Tremaine, because Cassandra and Anastasia Tremaine they were not born to royalty, while, Namaari is an Unofficial Disney Princess and Melody made her debut in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea and it is also because she is the first and only daughter of an Official Disney Princess, but Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Goldilocks, the Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, the children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia, the children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and the others also need Anastasia Tremaine, Cassandra, Namaari and Melody's help to protect and save their kingdom of Far Far Away and all the Multiverse away from Rumpelstiltskin, Death, all the other Official Villains of Disney and all the other Official Villains of DreamWorks, because Anastasia Tremaine, Cassandra and Namaari are now good people and Melody is the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, but I also want to see the death of Queen Lillian, because since her husband named King Harold passed away in the movie of Shrek 3, she has felt heartbroken and that caused her own death in her kingdom of Far Far Away, and all the inhabitants of the kingdom of Far Far Away are saddened by the death of Queen Lillian, because now she is with her husband named King Harold in heaven, and now they have lost their queen, that means now the kingdom of Far Far Away needs a new queen and King Artie said that his love interest, girlfriend, fiancée and former classmate from Worcestershire school called Princess Guinevere would be the one to be the new Queen of Far Far Away, so King Artie decided to return to his old school called Worcestershire along with Shrek, with his older cousin Princess Fiona, with Donkey, with Dragon, with Puss in Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and with the others to meet again with their friends from their school who are actually Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany and their love interest, girlfriend and fiancée Princess Guinevere to take them back to his kingdom of Far Far Away, and I also want to see the romance of all the Official Disney Princes and all the Official Disney Princesses from their respective movies, especially the romance of Maui and Queen Moana Waialiki, the romance of Hiccup Haddock and Princess Merida, the romance of Jack Frost and Princess Elsa, the romance of Varian and Cassandra, the romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and the romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think that Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Merida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Merida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Merida is also the same, because whenever Princess Merida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, but luckily for them, Princess Fiona will help Queen Moana Waialiki to win the heart of Maui, also Princess Merida to win the heart of Hiccup Haddock, also Princess Tiffany to win the heart of Prince Lancelot and also Princess Guinevere to win the heart of King Artie, and I also want that Jack Frost will be Princess Elsa's love interest and boyfriend and Varian will be Cassandra's love interest and boyfriend, because Jack Frost leaves fall in love with Princess Elsa, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Jack Frost gets too close to Princess Elsa when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, because Varian leaves fall in love with Cassandra, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Varian gets too close to Cassandra when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, but fortunately for they, Shrek will help Jack Frost to win the heart of Princess Elsa and also Varian to win the heart of Cassandra, except Princess Raya, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Princess Asha, Goldilocks and Namaari, because now they will be the only Official Disney Princesses who do not need to have love interests and who can remain single forever, and I also say the same for Melody, the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because like her adoptive aunts Princess Raya, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Princess Asha, Goldilocks and Namaari, she doesn't need a love interest either, but I also want to see the rivalry between King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who is the best ruler of a kingdom, because both want to do what is best for their own kingdom, because King Artie wants to do the best for his kingdom of Far Far Away because now he is the new King of Far Far Away and Queen Anna wants to do the best for her kingdom of Arendelle because now she is the new Queen of Arendelle, but at the end, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best ruler of a kingdom, and that at the end, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their first true love kiss and that they become a romantic couple, just like Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany, and also that at the end of the movie of Shrek 5, Maui, Hiccup Haddock, Kristoff Bjorgman, Jack Frost, Varian, Prince Lancelot and King Artie become the new official members of the Official Disney Princes, while Queen Anna, Princess Elsa, Cassandra, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Princess Asha, Goldilocks, Namaari, Yi, Ruby Gillman, Anastasia Tremaine, Princess Tiffany and Princess Guinevere become the new official members of the Official Disney Princesses and that one day, Princess Tiffany will be the wife of O*af is absolutely cringe-worthy, annoying, hideous, evil, braindead, unfunny, etc.
Calcifer from Howl's moving castle, Jiji from Kiki's Delivery service, Toothless from HTTYD, Donkey and Puss in Boots from Shrek, King Julian's court and the penguins from Madagascar, Mike from Monsters inc, Mator from Cars, Stitch from Lilio and Stitch, Mushu from Mulan, Maximus and Pascal from Tangled, etc are all far better sidekicks than that atrocity

Bros just pointing out creative bankruptcy and cheap usage of previously good things why is it such a huge issue for some of you? I respect some of you enjoy this cheap stuff when we know the company can do better, but if we just keep accepting it this company we all love will keep going downhill 😵‍💫

Yes, I like Disney and its content, but it should be more valued in many ways.

@@user-hc8eb5hb9w have you seen his other videos? He’s praised several other things the company has done. We value this company in the right ways, not in the way of cheap additions in the parks, not in the sub par storytelling of their more recent films and shows, and certainly not in the creatively bankrupt state the company is currently in.

Well you're just a butthurt Frozen fan-brat who can't and won't take any VALID criticism directed towards the entire Frozen franchise seriously. 🤡
