The style of dance they’re doing is called New Jack Swing. It’s also the genre of the music during that time. 1986-1993. Teddy Riley(Guy, Blackstreet) is the creator.
I would argue 1986 - 1995 as this is how we do it is a massive New Jack Swing song!

The style of dancing is called New Jack Swing. It gets name from the same style of music you been listening too. This group is one of the best dance groups ever. If you can find videos of them live on the Arsenio Hall show you’ll see why. They would do all those days moves live and sing live too.

This style is called swingbeat. Each quarter note is divided by six (6). This style was really popular from 1987-1993 until the slower hip hop soul took over. You have to feel how the beat is divided in order to really get it. Chuckii Booker was behind "Spread my wings". He also released two albums with "Games" and "Turned away" being hits.
If you like crazy swingbeat drum arrangements, try Karyn White's "The way you love me". It's a Babyface tune as is the ballad, "Sweet November" by Troop which is a cover of when Face was in the Deele. Remember them? "Two occasions!

This is one of the best new jack songs ever made, written by Chuckii Booker. Steve Russell sang the first voice and ad-libs at the end. Allen McNeil sings second verse. Steve went on to a successful career as a songwriter/producer. Probably his biggest producer hit is Chris Brown's Take You Down. He also has a solo album that's pretty dope.
the dancing is just street dancing. after commodification of hip-hop it became known as hip-hop dance. a lot of the new jack swing era dances are incredibly acrobatic.

This is one of my fav genres within R&B music... New Jack Swing, and their dancing didnt really have a specific name. It would of course fall into hip hop, but as another commenter said, just call it new jack swing dancing. I say that because most, if not all new jack swing artists/groups had to be able to dance they ass off. Troop, bell biv devoe, color me badd, bobby brown, etc all could dance their ass off.
They are one of my favorite boy groups. So underrated and amazing. They should have been bigger than they were.
Their first single is such a banger that it's my favorite song. "MY HEART ". Their dancing is so tightly on point, that all I can do is stare in awe at how well their chemistry works together. It makes them look like they'd be amazing to watch in concert, which I never got to see.

The choreography doesn’t have a specific name although I see a lot of posts referring to it as “New Jack Swing” bcuz that’s their type of music. However, their choreography has a few other aspects from other genres of dance, like “Poppin’ & Lockin” and “the Robot”. So I’d just say ppl danced like that in the 90s (with influences also from the 70s and 80s styles of dancing).
