@GalaxyNexus1 Limited whatever. I like what I like, your criticism means nothing to me. It's music, not rocket science. So go on with your fancy words.
i grew up hearing the Troop version on the radio. as a lifelong MJ fan, i never knew the Jackson 5 did this song first. when i bought the Jackson 5's Moving Violation album, i saw the title of this song in the track listing, but i never thought it was the same song. i was stunned. i had a "really?!!" smirk on my face as i sat listening in disbelief at what i was hearing. Michael Jackson and the brothers did this song first. wow. and here i thought i heard everything. . .
I loved that younger people thought that Troops version was a cover , but was not surprised that it was Micheal and The Jacksons . I was in high school when the Jacksons original was released .Old schoolers like me couldn’t hear Troops version without thinking of The Jacksons, but I liked it…
Chuckii Booker produced the Troop version (and played ALL the instruments), so it's worth checking out his stuff as well. Fun fact: He was the opening act (and musical director) for Janet Jackson's first tour 😊.
I used to love this song growing up but once I heard Troops version I could never hear the old version the same way. Troop took the song to another level.
I think the Troop cover was so good for 2 reasons: 1. They didn't deviate to much from the original version. They really stayed in that pocket. 2. The track itself was at least a decade ahead of its time. It was made for 1990 when Troop did it. But that Michael...he will give you a sweet R&B ballad.
This song was the Jackson 5's last charted single before they left Motown. If you look closely, you'll notice Jermaine is not performing with them during this Soul Train performance. Jermaine was the only member who decided to stay with Motown. With this move, Randy officially replaced Jermaine. Michael Lovesmith (who sang background vocals for Luther on his 1990 "Any Love" album) co-wrote this song with Brian Holland of the legendary songwriting trio Holland-Dozier-Holland. Michael Lovesmith also produced this song. Multi-instrumentalist Chuckii Booker produced Troop's cover version. Their version reached #1 on R&B singles like damonfisher commented, and it peaked at #47 on the Billboard Hot 100. What a way to pay homage to probably the most talented young boy band ever. Troop sang this with so much heart & soul. Thanks, Jack, for paying homage to this original & cover in one reaction.
I found out very recently that the Jackson 5 was the originators of this classic. I've only known Throop's version. Such a beautiful classic. Thank you, CRobb. Dope request!❤
Thanks for the history of this song. I was a little kid when it was released and actually got a free copy of it because I had a temper tantrum because my mom didn't buy the record for me that day. lol The manager felt bad and gave me the single for free. I remember watching them actually perform this song too. Troop did a great cover of this as well, but the original has special childhood memories for me.
I'm so glad to hear a reactor giving the entire Jackson 5 their flowers. They were all so very talented Tito,Jackie, Marlon, and Jermaine were giants in their own rights. When I was 11 The Jackson 5was the first concert I would ever see. Funny Note: Jackie broke my 11 year old heart when found out he was married.I was supposed to be Mrs Jackie Jackson. ..in my mind anyway lol
Grew up on Troop’s version without knowing the original until my parents put me on. Michael & Jermaine’s vocals are classic and undeniable. But Troop took it to another level. Who remembers the B5 version 😐
Mike just killin it bit so fid troop with the love from the jacksons permission. One of my all times from both. Goosebumps. That "Jacksons" era, soooo underrated
WOW, thanks for doing this, Jack.🌟 I think I anticipated this one the most of all. I really appreciate it. Such a special reaction when any member of the Jackson Family sings/performs, as fans, we are so honored. I really like both songs. Troop really did their thing on this cover, but you just can't deny Michael's vocals on the original & just acknowledging each & everyone of them should be done more, like you said these young boys were doing it all: singing, dancing, playing instruments - just legendarily talented.
@@gabrielmcdonnell8699You're welcome. I was waiting on this reaction, probably more than any other song request I made. Got more Troop songs I plan on requesting. Thanks for the shout-out.
The Jacksons have a song called "torture" written and produced by Jackie Jackson and trust me you would love the video. It's amazing and so is the song like once you hear it it's going to become a regular thing you listen to
Great reaction. Both songs are dope. I first heard Troops version back in 89 when it came out not knowing it was a cover then shortly after Heard J5's version. Both are dope in their own right. You can tell and Troop has said this before they were influenced by MJ and you can hear it in the vocals. Also shouts out to Chuckii Booker on production on Troops Version. Chuckii doesn't nearly get the props he deserves as a songwriter, arranger and producer.
The song was originally issued as a B-side to the Jackson 5's disco version of the Supremes' "Forever Came Today" in June 1975. That month, the group announced that they would leave Motown for Epic Records, however, they still remained under contract to Motown until March 1976.[2] Jermaine Jackson, the song's second co-lead vocalist, left the group and remained with Motown, with Randy Jackson officially replacing him. (Credit: Wikipedia) That is why, even though you see "5 brothers" on stage - that is not the original "Jackson 5" (it is minus Jermaine... but plus Randy on bongos). However, you can still hear Jermaine's contributing vocals on the track in this Soul Train performance.
I’m not gonna lie, I am a die hard MJ fan all day errrrrrrday, but I actually favor Troop’s version better than the Jackson 5… Best cover ever done!!! 🙌🏼
If you want to make some women of a certain age fall out in remembered teenaged infatuation, play the very beginning of the TROOP version from the Cd. The intro is highly recognizable and acts as a time machine.
Still one of my favs, huge Jackson 5 fan always loved their version and but Troops version came out when I was in high school when I had my first true crush boyfriend so I always feel all lovey doves inside when I hear it😂I literally rewounded this cassette to this song😂❤
I always say The Jackson 5 version is when you're slow dancing with a girl at a house party and the Troop version is when you have a crush on a girl and trying to GTD
A little footnote about this J5 performance. Jermaine wasn’t in this performance but young Randy was. This same 5 would later be known as The Jackson’s
if you want to hear the Jackson play their instruments listen to the Jackson 5's Hum Along and Dance. It highlights solos from Jermaine Jackson on Bass and Tito Jackson on Electric Guitar.
I prefer Troop’s version bc it’s 🔥 and I heard it first. I was born in ‘71 and growing up, my pops played The J5 at times (even in the 80’s) but never their original of this song. This was a cool format; hope the comparisons are revisited on occasion.
This came up on a tik tok this song and I forgot that the Jackson 5 did it 1st don't give me wrong I love the Jackson 5But troop did their thing on the song
Young Bro! So glad you’re reviewing this song! It’s one of my top 5 J5 favs! Michael sings his azz off on this one! Fun fact that I don’t think you caught… The vocal besides, Michael’s was Jermaine, who had just left the group. That’s when they brought Randy in to take his place. You continue to surprise me with how astute you are about this music for someone, so young… And I agree with you about the J5 being underrated as a group… and not just back up for Michael. Your listeners might disagree with me, but the J5 version of this song is the best of the two! Keep up the good work, young bro… I’ll be watching! ❤️🙏🏽
Lmao the bad thing about so Soul train sometimes is the lip synching, Jermaine was the other voice singing but he wasn't there so u just hear him throughout the track lol. Should definitely react to some Jermaine stuff, he had plenty of big hits of his own.
Thanks Jack Reacts for giving the Jackson 5/Jackson's their flowers! I've seen them with Michael (Victory Tour) and after he passed and they are very talented. Jermaine and Tito don't get enough credit for their instrument playing.
🤯Hold up! This was a remake? I thought Troop"s version was an original recording. Wow! I'm gotta be biased and vote for Troop, since their version is the one I grew up with. Mom was a huge fan of Troop, so she played the heck out of that song.
Unpopular opinion. I think the Jackson 5 version better, captures the heart and soul better. People confuse the modern instrumentation as better. You can see even Troop studied MJ's vocal stylings and phrasing.

One of the best covers ever made. That's why Troops version went #1 R&B. Troop is criminally underrated. Those brothers sang.
My absolute favorite cover of this song
I agree with you 100%I agree with you 100%

I recently found out Jackson 5 made the original. I love Troop’s version.
Michael Jackson was pure magic on stage. I miss him so much RIP.
I love both versions! Beautiful lyrics!🔥 Troop's cover has a different energy. I love their voices & delivery. They covered it perfectly! 🔥👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I love love MJ but Troop’s version will always be my favorite 😂🩷 A group named B5 also did a version in like 2004. Good times.
B5 did this song too for the 2000s version which is what I grew up on and they did good on it
I grew up with the Troop version. I like their arrangement bit better. Did a BUNCH of slow grinding to this song at dances. 😂
Thank you CRobb for the requests!!!

GTD? If a man plays Troop's version for a woman who's interested, then he'll get more than the digits. He'll get those draws, too!
Michael was a cutie!❤❤❤
