New A45S AMG vs Old C63 AMG! Rolling and standing start, huge V8 vs 2.0L, AWD vs RWD

- When the latest Mercedes-AMG A45S arrived at the office, someone came up with the idea to race it against the W204 Mercedes C63 AMG we had parked outside. The thing is, that C63 belongs to our presenter, Ciro De Siena. Luckily he was on board!
And so we hired the Killarney Race Circuit, the quarter mile drag strip specifically, and set up what has become one our favourite drag races that we've ever produced.

It wasn't long ago when a hot hatch costing more than R800k was obscene. The combination of car prices inflating and the Rand deflating is killing the SA car market.

Yeah, enjoyable cars, even something like a Swift Sport are basically only for the wealthy in South Africa these days. Its sad, people used to have a lot better affordability.

At the end of the day you have a still fast NA V8 engine, RWD and v8 sound, thats all a car enthusiast want and dream of, no matter how fast 4pot hot hatches are getting, who cares

I owned a 2013 C63 and it was the best car I have ever owned - sold it a while back as I needed a bigger car for a while but am looking to get a C63 507 now. Mate if you had the updated 7 speed transmission (2012 to 2013) with proper race start you would have been even closer - even if you had it in Sport + auto mode you would have smoked him in the rolling races. To stand a chance from a stop start you'd need fresh tyres and you'd have to warm them up just before race. The old C63 is the best sounding V8 ever IMO. Great video.
Just do exhaust and software on the C63 and unlock another huge punch of power 😊 they love long tube headers 🎉🎉

Go check out the carwow drag race. The M2 absolutely destroys the RS3 and A45 over the quarter mile. The RS3 still launches harder than all of them though.
Also an M240i xdrive with a simple ecu tune will murder all of the above while being much much cheaper.
Not trying to be rude but the M2 nor RS3 have anything to worry about

@e46m54nissansr20937 we all know how quick the RS3 and M2 are. This updated A45s is definitely alot quicker off the line than the current spec. I think this updated spec will give the Rs3 a challenge off the line.
@@tiyani3154 tuning is a whole different ball game. A stock MK8 Golf R is way quicker than the S3 & A35. And those EA888s respond really well to mods. It all comes down to personal preference I guess and each one should just be enjoyed for what it is. Comparison is the thief of joy.

That 2lt will never last as long as that V8. By the time it's 10 years old, it would cost it's purchase price on engine and gearbox repairs.

Despite being a much older car, the interior of the C63 looks more lux than the newer A45S. Incredible how much power that M139 engine in the A45S pushes out to the wheels.
The 6.2 naturally aspirated, my all time favorite
No matter how fast and quick is the A series, I would definitely go for the C63 all day every day.
