Doug! I just found your channel and I love it! I love how thorough you are and all the real-time examples you use. I do not have bees, as I do not yet have a home. But one of the very first things I want to do is keep a few hives. Thank you for all the hard work you put into these videos.
thanks for the warning. lol. hubbie found a forgotten nest and brought home combs, but idk what to do so im looking. he was already in that mindset, cant stop him now. friend clearing g the nest for a couple said, yes will provide. so, now we are looking at all that is needed. meanwhile I have honey combs. thats why I'm here.
I'm doing my first harvest today (here in Umbria, Italy) and have been reading and watching videos in preparation - yours has been the most helpful, thank you. Nice, clear close-up shots and yours is the first explanation I have seen of the best way to use the capping scratcher. Thanks for taking the trouble to make this video to help new beekeepers.
I'm only 13 now but I want to have honeybees when I buy a house. Lavender honey is the best in my opinion, and I've been learning a lot about bees. Like how you can't take honey from bumblebees because they only make enough to last them through the winter.
Lexana thanks so much for commenting on my video. I'm so glad you would like to become a beekeeper. We can always use more of those. Keep learning about the world and the bees.
I'm not a beekeeper and have zero desire to become a beekeeper, but I love watching videos like this. It's honestly relaxing for me to watch someone harvest honey. There's no technology involved here, it's good old fashioned farm work. I'm a lefty too, by the way.
This was so relaxing and thorough in explaining the process. I don't even have an interest to harvest my own honey but love watching people extract them for some reason?! 😅😅😅
Thank you for the wonderful video. I love watching honey extraction process, there’s something so relaxing about it... especially when it’s done so well and gently like how you do it! Great explanation of what’s going on too. I love learning new things.
Allah (God) says in the Noble Quran about bees theses Quranic verses: ( And your Lord inspired the bees, saying: "Take you habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in what they erect, Then, eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of your Lord made easy (for you)." There comes forth from their bellies, a drink of varying colour wherein is healing for men. Verily, in this is indeed a sign for people who think)
NICE VERSE , BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD AND ONE WAY TO THE FATHER AND THAT'S THROUGH🙏JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR🙏 I UNDERSTAND YOU FOLLOW WHAT YOU BELIEVE BUT IT HAS BEEN FULFILLED AND THE MESSIAH HAS COME AS PROPHESIED IN YOUR QURAN AND THE BIBLE , MOHAMMED CLEARLY TOOK SOME THINGS FROM THE BIBLE AND MADE HIS OWN BOOK ,BY YOUR OWN FOLLOWERS JESUS APPEARED TO THEM AND HAS SHOWED MOHAMMED IN HELL THIS FOR A REASON SO YOU MAY MAKE IT TO ETERNAL LIFE. THERE ARE NO VIRGINS WAITING FOR YOU ! JESUS IS LORD! 😇🙌🙌🙌
Thank you for sharing this video my kids were interested in learning how the honey they just put on their waffles made it to the bottle. They enjoyed the video thoroughly!
I know I’m a year late, but this video just came up in my recommendation. Even if I don’t have bees, I’d love to collect honey and watching people do it is amazing! Thanks for the video!
"The smell is amazing" Yes!! I have yet to make my first harvest, but when I was checking my hive recently, the aroma was absolutely intoxicating even from several feet away! There is nothing like the smell of fresh honey in the air!
Hey Doug. Former NW Hoosier here. We were in LaPorte and now Florida. We're planning on moving back north soon. And planning on 10-20 acres with animals and BEES and need to learn how. Great Video.
That's too funny! I remember the first time I opened a beehive and heard that buzzing. My heart was pounding and my brain was saying run away, and I had a bee suit on!
I have become addicted to bee keeping videos the last couple weeks. If you told me as a teenager that at 39 you will spend hours of your week watching other people do a hobby you do not do, im pretty sure my head would have exploded from disappointment
Just like to say thank you, for such a thoughtful and very educational video I hope to bring a bee hive to my new home when I move as I'll always have "bee friendly" flowers all year round, if they produce honey its practily useless to me but there wax would be a delight
I have used honey for more than 30 years but I really never watch the video on how they take the honey out of the honeycomb and this is amazing what's more amazing fact I made this little creatures which best thing but reproduce the best honey ever thank you God and thank you farmer awesome
Thank you for such a detailed delightful explanation of “from the field to the jar” extraction.. I feel far more ready as a “first timer” after watching you!
Just would like to suggest to you to put a screw in your peice of wood that you rest your frames on when decapping. The point to the screw will keep your frames from sliding around. Love your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Your explanation and demonstration appear very helpful, I have bee hives on my farm that were given me. I didn't ever put bees in them but I have "inherited" a colony this year in those hives and I didn't know how to harvest the honey.
Honey is my preferred topping for toast and oatmeal and my preferred sweetener for tea. Thanks for posting this video. It was fascinating and informative. Thanks for doing what you do to keep us supplied with honey.
Where are you in NW Indiana? I just moved from there to SW Virginia in 2022 and I think it's time to harvest my honey for the first time. I got my bees in early June of 2023. Thanks for the tutorial!
I'm watching this at 2:30 am and starting to get tired. When he started spinning the frames, the music started, which in my sleepy mind reminded me of a jack in the box. My next thought was, "I hope nothing jumps out of there." 😂
Nice video! I would never be able to do that. I got stung by a black wasp on the ear when I was younger and have been terrified of anything that buzzes since lol. Cool to see another hoosier👍🏼
Hi William, I put some links for the tools I use in the video description. Here is the link for the uncapping knife: amzn.to/2Mml6FH I think it's about half the price of the be supply stores and free shipping. I hope this helps and thanks for watching the video.
Great video, very helpful! Thank you for the tip about the cap scratcher, I definitely would have used it the wrong way. I know this video is a few years old & maybe you're harvesting differently now, but I was thinking wouldn't it help if you notched the piece of wood that you rest the frames on while uncapping to it the bucket & hold it in place better for you? Also, maybe make a top notch in the middle of the wood to set the frame into so it doesn't slide around? Just a couple of thoughts I had.
Why do you have so many layers? Do you need that many layers? Can you get honey from all the layers? Can you only get honey from supers? Your response would help me a lot. New subscriber here!!
+STARLIGHT ABUTEEN I need 2 deep brood boxes to hold the bees so that they will over winter. The rest of the layers are honey and they are harvested and removed before winter. Why do you have so many layers? Do you need that many layers? Can you get honey from all the layers? Can you only get honey from supers? Your response would help me a lot. New subscriber here!!

You are the best harvest Doug
