When you resist a spell you have to use the resistance table p 147. So pitting your Power of 14 against your target's Power of 16 would result in a 40% chance of overcoming his resistance.

Ahh gotcha. Thank you for clarifying. Some of these things I miss when I go through the first time. This makes a lot more sense now.

The formula by the way is:
      (Offensive POW - Defensive POW) * 5 + 50
With a floor of 5 and a ceiling of 95.

Second of your vids I've watched. Very informative. Thanks! Why don't you do videos AFTER playing Runequest as a kind of supplement to these videos. These videos are great but I'd love to hear how you got on by actually playing the game. Like running us through a scenario you played. Perhaps you are too busy to play Runequest. If so what game DO YOU ACTUALLY PLAY, just out of interest?

Thank you! I don't really get time to ever play anything sadly. Honestly, I enjoy reading them and learning them more than actually playing lol.
I know that probably impacts the videos some as certain mechanics play better or worse than they read.
Thanks for watching and the comments!

WTF? Over 2 minutes of silence at the start?

These are live streams. I am currently in the process of going back and editing out the countdowns before the video. Thank you for watching and commenting. I'll get caught up on these soon.

So its a setting where everyone has magic? That seems boring if everyone can cast spells... how does that work exactly?

    • @MrAngryCucaracha
      @MrAngryCucaracha 3 года назад +7

Why? In the real world anyone can throw a punch, but that doesn't make martial artists boring. In glorantha religions are real, so if you know a prayer to bless the fields, that prayer does indeed bless the fields. But just because god exists doesnt mean everyone can call upon all the saints or knows cabbala. The old woman at the village probably knows a few prayers to heal the wounds of her grandkids though.

@@MrAngryCucaracha Because throwing a punch doesn't make you a martial artist... Your comparison is flawed.

You are limited by several factors:
      - each cult knows certain spell and doesn't know many others
      - an average adventurer can learn 13 spell of 166 spell in the core rule book, the most optimised character is able to learn 42 of those spells after years and year of adventuring
      - learning new spells and increasing Rune points costs time and money, time and money a character might want to spent improving in other areas, like becoming stronger, earning money or caring for their family
      - true magic is only present in sorcery, a character's max capability in sorcery is determined when rolling stats, and not everyone can pick up sorcery

As for how it works lore wise:
Magic and gods are the fundamental laws of physics in Glorantha.
Gravitation, DNA, photons, micro organisms, electricity, mass, you name it... all of that does not exist in Glorantha. You get sicknesses are caused by evil spirits, the sun rises and set because the sun god is born and killed, a fighter is strong because runes give them the power, arches shoot true because runes guide their arrows. It's an all out mythological world with little to no set rules as to why things work the way they do.

@@dangercat8919 casting a spell in RQ doesn't make you a shaman (or other caster) either. You can kind of think of it like how all of us use mathematics and science every day but few of us devote ourselves to a high level of talent. The benefit of RQ is that its highly consistent within the game setting, it doesn't really work as a setting neutral game like DnD does.
