- The late, great, Ray Moore, who worked as a DJ on BBC Radio 2 during the 1980's, who sadly died of throat cancer in 1989. Here he sings his single 'The Bog Eyed Jog' that he recorded for Children in Need.
as I remember, when he was doing the early morning bog eyed jogs, he did not seem as sparky as he usually did on his shows… it was later that it hit the newspapers that he was seriously ill. I still to this day have his book “tomorrow is too late”… lovely man
Hard to believe that it's nearly 30 years since we lost Ray Moore to cancer. He was a great Gentle man.
30 years, sadly missed.
I remember being about 10 when this was used on Radio 2 for children in need by Terry Wogan. I'm 46 now
Where have the years gone?
Ahhh it was worth getting up at 3 in the morning and going to work driving me truck, to be able to listen to Ray.. I still call Gatwick, Gatport Airwick as he did.
Lol, so do I!
i have also a signed photo of Ray Moore when he was on radio 2 early mornings
Now that is very nice
Radio 2 never been the same in the mornings to me personally, wonderful memoriies lovely man. god bless.,books good to.
+BYRON JONES Yes, I agree
Memories of radio 2 when it was worth listening to.
still is
I’ve had this song in my head for 10 years and have spent days trying to find it. Finally, it isn’t a figment of my imagination, thank you.
You're welcome, Ray Moore is a sorely missed DJ
PLEASE - never forget Ray Moore. One of many considered a personal friend by radio 2 listeners.
:)
You were great Ray
Unforgettable!
It must be getting on for thirty years since I last heard this. A wonderful bit of nostalgia. Thank you!
You're welcome
Thanks for Ray Moore and this song.
Those were happy days in much happier times
i always woke to Ray moore in the morning on my alarm clock radio great presenter with ikky the fire bobby and gatport airwick
Most definitely.
Of course, the song IS nonsense, but if you'd followed Ray Moore on his early morning show on Radio 2 back in the 80s you'd know what it was all about.
thanks ray for singing this i used to listen to you every morning rest in peace my friend i will always remember you roger
Thanks ray your one of the reasons I joined hospital radio thanks pal
I’m 33 now. Used to listen this in my child hood days on the 45 :)
thanks for putting these on,Big Alma and the family enjoyed them very much. it was great to hear Ray's dulcet tones after all these years.
love from Management!
Never forgotten, always made me smile in the mornings. I still call my wife Management and still think of a mixed gorilla. RIP. PS. My father bought a rabbit but he thought it was a duck....
Definitely. Such happy times listening to Ray.
Awwww Ray! Loved the humour of this song, just like the show! 💓
omg, i used to love this... and still do!
brilliant!
Love this, great memories, a truly great DJ who made the mornings so much more enjoyable!
Thanks for your kind comments. Its nice to know I've made someone happy!
Along with My Father Had a Rabbit and Wogan, I loved waking up on weekday mornings - even if it was to go to school!
How I miss Ray Moore
Love this song. Heard it last year for the first time when Alan Carr played it on Radio 2
Ray Moore was one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. It's very sad that he was taken away from us so soon. I've just posted a BBC1 trail with Ray on OOV. I have miles of videotape to go though and expect I'll find a few more.
Love to Alma & Family XX
With the exception of Ken Bruce and Tony Blackburn, Johnny Walker
Radio 2 is a mess, with its current presenters getting mega bucks, Ray wiped the floor with them, fortunately we still have Fran Godfrey and Alan Dedlicote at Mellow Magic and Charles Nove and Simon Mayo on Scala but RIP Ray, Sir Terry, Alan Dell, David Jacobs, Ed Stewart, Jimmy Young, Desmond Carrington
Indeed, so many quality presenters gone
Ken Bruce gone now, tony Blackburn and Johnny walker won't be there much longer, now radio2 has women and strange men talking inane drivel.
Ðefinitely no one like Alan Keith now!
He was a great BBC One Announcer!
Remember I lived worked in Dunstable when this was in the charts October 1987...Wow time flies.
Less stressful times as well
Ray was a legend!
naiodailec - ditto I don't think my life has ever recovered as I was convinced he was a personal friend although I never met him! XX
Never knew he had worked on BBC radio 2 or sang songs like these two that I have seen on youtube. I remember listening to his voice overs as a kid and loved hearing what programmes were on in his great style!
When you're twelve years old you still find things like hysterically funny.
When you're thirty-eight they're...mildly amusing.
(And yes I have heard "Springtime In The Rockies" as well!)
remember hearing this as a young apprentice way back in 1986 on the steve wright's afternoon show.
Classic song! Cheers!
Superb stuff.
i love this lol, there were a few songs in this era that were jokey, never seen a farmer on a bike was another, & of course Wogans floral dance
nice to hear this again today on radio 2 this children in need day.Quality broadcaster i remember from the 80s.Take note the likes of Ross and Radio 2 management-this was a decent guy who knew what broadcasting was about.
Genius
Hi. I'm just about to upload 'Farmer on a bike'. Sung by John Crisp. No video, I'm afraid, just a scrolling text to accompany the song. Should appear in my list of videos shortly, or by the time you read this it might already be there!
Kudos if your here at its 2023
I go marlborough too :) what year u in?
Although it's utter crap, it's still unbelievably catchy!
there used to be a song he played (never seen a farmer on a bike) that i cant find anywhere, any help on here?
I do have that song, it was the 'b' side to 'Eastern Counties Bus' by John Crisp. Not sure if I've converted it to mp3, but if I have and I can find it, then I'll upload it here.
Found it, just uploaded it. I don't think RUclips lets me paste a link here, so just search for " John Crisp Farmer on a Bike " or go to my latest videos.
John Crisp Farmer on a Bike
the kids in the song were from my school :)
i was in this singing so emarassing lol
If u don't mind me asking was it with a school? If so which one please?
BBC CHILDREN IN NEED THE BOG EYED JOG
Yes, happy days
It’s a bit black over bills mothers this morning.
Indeed!
this is EASILY the third greatest song ever recorded.
That is EASILY the third best RUclips comment ever! (And you may well be right regarding the song!)
Yeah go marlborough school :)
I think Ray died of Cancer of the Tongue
Parklife!
Cringingly bad. Ouch! How embarassing!!
Much like your comment....tit
What a bloody AWFUL song. WTF is the Bog Eyed Jog? A shame I couldn't have donated in REVERSE for inflicting that rubbish on me!
You just don't get it.......cretin
You needed to listen to radio 2 at the time when Ray did his show it would make sense
You had to be there
You obviously were too thick to realise this song was a parody, of nonsense.
