    Yes AND no to templates - depends on how many identical things need made. Great project - that thing will survive well into his teen years, at which point he'll wedge himself against the ceiling. Hats off to your plan for knockdown-ability - that would definitely bend my head keeping all those connecting joints straight.
    When you mentioned a Gantt chart, it made me wonder: assuming you're not fully funded via YT here, what's your 'day job'?

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  Год назад +1

      No doubt! Hopefully, in his teen years that’s all the troubles he’ll be getting into haha. And by day I work in advertising, YT only covers most of the project materials at this point.

    No templates for me. Mainly because most of my stuff is small and one-off so just never feels warranted.
    With that dado on the ladder, did you end up filling in the empty space at all? I wouldn't imagine it'd be a concern structurally, but my OCD would want to tack a scrap piece of maple there or something.

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks

      Totally makes sense! And yeah I cut a block and popped it in here 21:10 as it was bothersome for me as well. 😀

    Yes templates. A "hand tool only" craftsman would use a compass to draw a circle, why cant you use more diverse patterns than a circle? Love the very practical piece you've made for your son.

    Yes and no templates. After 47 years at this trade it all comes down to the situation. My approach is lots of parts or if accuracy is important then templates. If not I tend to lean towards hand work. BTW how did you land such a hot wife😎

Thank you!

    Sometimes templates. Excellent work. Love the design. One suggestion for the video…for a large project like this, as you move from piece to piece, it would helpful to see a shot of the whole project with the piece you are working on highlighted. Thanks for sharing!

  • @adamc3474

    Yes templates. Wood is too expensive to be throwing piece after piece in the burn pile. Make your mistakes on the less expensive material. Then you can have them for multiple pieces and multiple projects. Saving time and money. Stay awesome.

    Yes templates. The hardware you used to assemble the bed is really neat 👍 I've seen some shocker loft beds in my day and this is definitely one of the better ones I've seen. I like the minimalist look for the desk space and I also quite like the bed rails. They almost have a futuristic space-age feel to them with those shapes. Awesome project, Shane 👍

    25 years ago, I did almost identical for daughter, then 12. Bought Ikea loft bed, reduced length by about 175cm (7") as her room wasn't wide enough for full size. Worked great. She didn't grow much more. She loved it and the desk hung below with threaded rod in shiny metal sheath. Couldn't have scratch built for the Ikea price

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  Год назад

      You’re probably right, but I don’t really try to make comparisons with IKEA. I think most people understand that the quality of IKEA furniture is far below anything I’m building. It’s kind of like saying I bought a Honda Civic 25 years ago and while that is a car, it’s no Mercedes.
