  • 1 Sam 18-20, A Bad Case Of Envy & Strife (James 3:13-18)
    Symptoms of Envy and strife
1 Sam 18:6-9, It really bothers you when someone else being honored over you
1 Sam 18:10-11, you have an irrational disgust for that person
1 Sam 18:12, 20:31-34, you are “afraid” that person will take your place
1 Sam 18:20-27, You formulate a scheme in hopes that someone will fail
1 Sam 19:1, 11-17, You try to turn other people against that someone
The cure for Envy and Strife against someone, James 3:13-18
Vs 13, Live a life of meekness of wisdom
Ps 25:9, the meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
Mat 5:5, Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Vs 14, Do not glory in envy or strife
Titus 3:3,, For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Vs 14, Reject lies and accept truth
1 Jn 1:6, If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.
Jn 3:19, and this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Vs 15, Live according to wisdom from above, not of the world
Phil 3:18-20, (for many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Vs 16, Reject confusion and evil works
1 Cor 14:33, For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Vs 17, apply a litmus test:
    Are you pure
    Washed by the blood
    Are you peaceable
An understanding heart that judges rightly and can discern between good and bad (1 King 3:9)
Are you gentle (a loving spirit)
1 Thes 2:7, But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
Are you easy to be intreated
The ability to work well with others
    Are you full of mercy
Willingness to show compassion and empathy
Mat 9:13, But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
    Are you producing good fruits
Luk 6:43-44, For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
    Are you showing partiality
    “Respect of persons”
    Are you being a hypocrite
A pretender, holding others to standards you refuse to hold up to yourself
    Vs 18, Sow peace
Is 32:17, and the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Hos 10:12, Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up you fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
