Love you, Paula! I wear the biggest, cutest glasses too! And we love chicken pot pie!! I do many of the same steps, but started using an all natural Alfredo jarred sauce instead of the canned cream of chicken soup years ago (before they were cleaner organic options). Cooks up like a simple white sauce or cream sauce and then I add cream instead of chicken stock. Season really well w/ black pepper and season salt etc. I use tons of the mixed veggies and rotisserie chicken. I usually make mine in the largest Pyrex casserole I have and top it with Pillsbury pie crust - I roll out 2 and place them over and crimp the sides. I’ll brush dough with a little cream for pretty browning. It’s a favorite of my 4 kiddos. Ironically, we are all now mostly plant based all of the time and my teens and grown kids sit around and daydream about the days when their mama cooked like Miss Paula Deen🤣🤣🤣. Instead of roast turkey my babies ask for my pot pie or poppy seed chicken at Christmas and Thanksgiving! I tried to make a plant based pecan pie a few years back-Lord, help me Jesus! I was hotter than a $2 pistol that I wasted all those pecans on such a mess! I now enjoy the real deal on special days and love being plant based the rest of the time. Ain’t nobody got time for vegan pecan pie! Period!! Love seeing you, dear Paula! You’re helping me keep joy and laughter flowing during a long cancer battle. My sweetheart of 32 years is fighting a blood cancer that attacks the bones. BUT GOD! Thanks for the laughter, the love, and the levity! 😘😘😘from Dallas!!
Love me some chicken pot pie!!! But in all seriousness, I just want to say that my grandmother and I watched you for so many wonderful years, and now that she is gone, I keep her memory alive by rewatching your show, which I was so happy to find I could do through your website. Thank you for being a staple in my life, and I cannot wait for your newest cookbook to arrive on my doorstep. Much love!
Been going to the Lady and Son’s for 13 years all the way from California when we come to Georgia. September 2022 we went to lunch at the Lady and Son’s and was rather disappointed, not with the food but the variety of options pertaining to food. I understand Covid changed the restaurant industry (not in a good way), but the Lady and Son’s is a Savannah staple. It should have a menu unlike The Family Kitchen establishments. The chicken pot pie should be on that menu and much more from pre covid menu. It’s time, make the Lady and Son’s what it is meant to be.
We eloped in Savannah (with Steve Schulte at the Forsyth Park Inn) in January 2011 and had chicken pie in your restaurant the night before. It was fantastic, great memory!
Paula, you should try mixing French Fried onions in my mix, they add a wonderful flavor. My family always recommends it for our family potluck dinners ❤
I have owned a catering company for many years. I also sell meals in bulk weekly. Our #1 seller is chicken pot pie, and we actually limit how many pies each person can get. But our pot pies have nothing in common but the chicken. That's crazy. I will continue to do it my way, but I'm making this for fun just for me. Thanks, Paula. I think you're wonderful.
Just made this. I substituted bacon and green beans for the vegetables. I made this while my wife was at work. We loved it. I think next time I'll use reduced sodium cream of chicken. Quick and easy.
Yum, but I want a chicken pot pie with both a top AND bottom crust-like a true pie! Never see that on cooking videos or shows-always just the “easy” method…Individual chicken pot pies would be excellent-homemade version of the Marie Callender’s ones.
Those were the good old days when you got a top and bottom crust!😋 But we eventually saw the manufacturers of frozen pot pies with only a top crust and it was very special when you could find one with the double crust!
@ckrtom2: Costco sells an actual Chicken Pot Pie as you describe and it is HUGE. They use the largest chunks of rotisserie chicken. And it is excellent. It leaves the ones by Marie Callender and Paula Deene in the dust, y’all.
@@johnpickford4222 Is this a pot pie made in house at Costco or is it a Kirkland brand that's made elsewhere and frozen to distribute to the stores?😋 Not sure why I'm asking for so much detail, I can't even get into the store.😞
Paula, although I'm not against chicken pot pie, I am definitely a chicken and dumplin's girl and the more dumplins the better. 😁My grandma always called pie bread. 😄 LOVE IT!
You can make this into chicken and dumplings, just double the amount of soup and stalk and the dollop spoonfuls of the biscuit mix around the top. Once it bakes they’ll form dumplings.
Paula, what do you say, "MY lips are going to beat my tongue until I get some of this!?"😂😂 I just returned from the store where I bought all these ingredients I didn't have on hand and it should be out of the oven in 45 minutes!!! I could hardly sleep last night knowing I was going to try this today 😂😂!! What a blessing you are! Thank you! I'll let you know what I think after it comes out and cools just a bit (I don't want to take the skin off my tongue either😅)!!
In a pinch for a small spatula,a sharp pair of scissors /shears to cut down a larger one ??? Grandma H ,also silver hair and blue eyes. Peace be with you and yours.🥰🌷
I'm not too sure why Covid would affect the making of chicken pot pies unless they were made elsewhere and brought in. If you can make dumplings you can make a pie.
You could use low sodium chicken broth with some heavy cream added, but first you would have to thicken it by separately heating it to a boil and then using a corn starch slurry to thicken it. Then you could use that sauce in the dish and it would be healthier than canned condensed soup. But this would require a few more steps in the process and a bit more time.
Broth or equal parts broth and milk. If you’re not making a roux (cooking a fat like butter with flour) then just put a little flour or cornstarch in a little water in a cup to make a slurry and add it to the filling. It will thicken up in a minute. Might pour through a strainer if you’re worried about lumps.
You know if Paula says it's too salty, then it's way too salty! She loves her some salt. I wonder if it was the can of soup that made it salty. I didn't see her add salt.
My favorite thing is to see that hand stretch in to grab that dirty dish, 😂, she reminds me so much of how I was when my momma would prep in the kitchen and I did due diligence keeping up and keeping her area tidy. Boy that looks delicious! 💕
I absolutely love your kitchen and restaurant, it was great to meet you in Myrtle Beach one year ago! Love and best wishes… also where are your cabinet handles from? I am in the process of renovating my kitchen. ❤
I made this and it was absolutely scrumptious. My husband loved it to death and asked me to make it again with jamee doing tonight. Thanks for a great easy did Paula.
I knew that it was a mistake when I saw that Paula was adding salt on top of the condensed soup. The soups are full of salt. No wonder she found it too salty. She was very liberal with the salt.
Salt is to taste. If you don’t like it, leave it out of yours. Condensed soup snobs shouldn’t be watching Paula’s videos, unless they are just enjoying picking her apart.
@@jw77019 What a snarky reply! Paula said that the food was salty, and it was because she added quite a bit of salt on top of the condensed soup. Everyone knows that condensed soups are salty, not just the snobs!
Chicken stock by itself is also very salty. So she really went overboard by adding even more salt to it. She was humble enough to admit she added too much salt to it at the end there. That’s ok, Paula! We’re all humans, we all make mistakes.
Just make or buy a pie crust or use frozen puff pastry. She’s using biscuit mix. You can use bisquick or something similar. It depends on what you like.
Love Paula, loyal fan but…Missing the real homemade recipes without the mixes and condensed soups so full of sodium and bad items that even Paula should not eat (bet she doesn’t). That is what made Paula so good. PS those condensed soups contain MSG which gives people migraines (me) so stay away and elevates blood pressure and water retention etc. not good for health.
Salted butter snobbery is over. The fact is salted butter makes everything except buttercream icing better. Her biscuit mix that she sells under her name is full of salt. Undiluted cream soup has more than a day’s recommended sodium, and grocery store rotisserie chickens are brined in salt before cooking to keep them juicy. So this was salt, salt, and more salt, then added salt. It was probably not even that salty. Salt snobs are so 2010.😊
She has an oven in her enormous gas range and also a freestanding commercial convection oven. Even Carol Brady had a similar indoor barbecue looking thing. Nobody ever talks about that. I always thought it was weird because their kitchen wasn’t that big for such a large family with full time help.

All the recipes I have read, made with canned soup, tells you not to put salt in it because of the high salt content in the soup. Also, biscuits are rather salty. Maybe you should have eliminated the salt you put in, in the beginning. Puff pastry might have been a better option. I had a funny feeling it was going to be salty because I have a similar recipe & ate it with biscuit that turned out too salty to. I made the biscuits so the next time I made it, I cut some of the salt the recipe called for. It worked but I think next time I'm just going to buy some Pillsbury pie crust.😄

Canned soup contains a lot of sodium. No extra salt is needed with the canned soup.
Salt is optional and to taste. Ina Garten is the only TV cooking star who is honest about how much salt it takes to make something taste great.
Depending on your taste
